How come you've been waiting so long for it Tria? And what book is it?

Actually, not three years but five, now that I check. That's when the last book in this series came out, and I read quickly and repeatedly. This is the latest in the series, just published. :) It's "A Wizard of Mars" by Diane Duane.

Social services lost my care assessment referral, so I'm not even on the waiting list yet, am somewhat unamused! I have just sorted out my referral to CHUMS- who're a befriending service in our area, so that I'll be able to go out without mum, and when mum's too busy, which is fab! Another thing with a nice long list unfortunately though I think the waiting time can vary depending on the age of the volunteers they have etc. I HATE using the phone, so very happy I managed to make 2 phone calls even if I was some kind of quivering *can't breathe* wreck :o

Oh Honey - I wish we were closer! Sometimes thats the support I give to our clients. Just being there while they sort out bits and bobs on the phone. I know what its like cos I used to be the same!!
I visit a lovely woman on a Friday and we now get all her bills and bits sorted then I usually take her shopping. Its nearly her 1 year anniversary with our charity so I'm going to make her a cake!

Btw, am I the only person who finds clothes shopping to be cruel and unusual punishment, only to be undertaken when I'm to the point of being in danger of being arrested for indecent exposure??:rotfl:
Lol LW. I don't like normal clothes shopping - and thus don't do it! I pick up random things in the supermarket or order them online (cashback and can pick up from local store :D) then me or Rob can take them back if they didn't fit/didn't pass the comfy test at home :) Much more civilised than struggling and flustering and burning up in a shop changing room, where the mirrors and lights are weird and the heating's always wrong!

I rang SS yesterday about MIL - need a reference off them anyway for the sheltered housing forms, but also wanted to know whether there was anything else they could do for MIL now she's got no depth perception and such cos of this eye haemorrhage... MIL is now, of course, turning into cranky "I don't need help" lady so who knows. SS did say that she would come and do a carers assessment with me and DH though, seperate to MIL, to see what our issues and concerns were, so that makes me slightly more hopeful.

Got to take Buddy-dog to the vets tonight. And nephew is coming to stay for a bit.

Well my hospital visit was a but Yuk yesterday, I had to see a gynea for my aunty flo probs. I had to wait 11/2 to see the consultant , had an examination ( more yuk ) answered lots of questions and was then told I need a hysterscopy and you have ot have a general with it :( he sent me straight down to the pre assesment unit, where we ended up waiting for another half hour, the gyneas nurse came along while I was waiting with a prescription he had just decided I needed and more info for my notes, by the time everything was done we had been there 3 hours and walked miles all over the hospital
I'm in a lot of pain today , but my Mum, sister and niece all came round and we went out for lunch which was nice.
Im not keen on clothes shopping either, but when I went in Next this week I saw what I wanted straight away and just grabbed it, only jeans and a t. shirt but I'm happy. Really I should have been getting somthing for the funeral which is on the 12th April, but I cant face it yet.
Hope everyone has a good Easter weekend.

Suep - My hysterectomy was one of the best things to happen to me. I went from feeling yuk yuk virtually all the time to feeling on top of the world in one fell swoop, I even felt so good 2 days after the op that I convinced myself that they hadn't actually done it and had just said they had. So there was me in the middle of the night with the nightlight on scouring my notes to make sure they had!

The relief from pain was immense, even the discomfort of having the operation was less than what I had been experiencing immediately before I went into theatre, hence my feeling so blooming good.

It is why I tell people my life really started at age 31 and a half....my twenties were cack but my 30's (well until hubby left) were so much better, lets hope my 40's due to start in 22 days go well too.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

Same experience as Sue here, had mine about 2 years ago. It really was a very good thing. I sat up in bed reading the same day they did it (full hysterectomy) and went home 2 days later. Before I had the op menstrual problems were a nightmare. My only regret not having any children, (but thats a whole different thing). Stay positive and their is a really good site on the web hysterectomy support who have losts of information. Best wishes.

*sighs* I would love to be allowed to get one. I've wanted them to just shut my reproductive capabilities off since I was about 15 - I've never wanted kids and still don't, and my periods are hell - last time I had to call the on-call doctor on a Sunday because I couldn't take my painkillers without throwing them back up again.

Know that feeling Trialia, for me it was pethidine and morphine to get through ovulation and my period.....then from there it prgressed to having to be on strong pain relief all the time and never stopping bleeding.

Mine was done because of endometriosis, an enlarged womb and the final nail in the coffin (womb wise), early stage cervical cancer for the 4th time. They thought it would just be best to whip it out than keep going with me in tremendous pain, loss of blood (which brings its own problems) and the ongoing and constant threat and treatment of cancerous cells.

Fortunately most of my problems were sorted with the pill, and the ones that weren't, well, only having to have a period every 3 months makes that easier.

Jennihen, that sounds like an amazing service to offer!

Things didn't go well on the phone with SS yesterday, I was told that it was unlikely I'd qualify for any help care-wise as I only need help with bathing, hairwashing, changing sheets, cleaning my room, cooking, washing clothes, getting dressed undressed, getting things up and down the stairs, getting myself up and down the stairs some days, remembering meds and appts, and to eat. And that is what my DLA's for, buying care (£18 a week?!) and also, that makes no sense as I have friends who can do more than me, who get care for free from SS and they get DLA too!

When I asked him if he thought going over 3 weeks without a bath was acceptable he mentioned the "local" bathing service, which would involve a half hour journey to the hosp, a bath there, half hour journey back. Can only manage bath at home max. of every 10 days cos it's so exhausting, let alone with an hour's round trip added to it, plus, trying to fit that in around mum's work appts would be a nightmare!

He caught me off guard asking what help I needed so he didn't get the whole list, I get so flustered on the phone, and with brainfog too it's not a good combo, he siad he *could* put me down for a care assessment but he didn't think there was much point as I was unlikely to get anything.. Nice.

After talking to dad about it he thinks he was trying to fob me off. He referred me to the OT dpt. instead, for an equipment assessment, but to be honest I don't see what they can offer me, I already have a bath lift but still can't have a bath alone with any ease.

I'm just so annoyed, I'm 18 and completely reliant on my mum and would love to be a bit more free from that, and it's not fair on her, she doesn't have the time to do all of it, so it doesn't get done.

Anyway, I plan to write a letter outlining my care needs, get GP on side, and try and get a care assessment, though it doesn't seem like there's much point! I'd got my hopes up, and that's such a fatal thing to do!

Hope all as happy and healthy as poss!
