Congratulations to everyone, jennihen, hope you have some better days ahead tobruk,

perhaps CWTA if you know the consultant's name, you could phone and ask for his secretary, explain your GP/dentist said it could be malignant and you would be very grateful if something could be done?

Sometimes, because the people who issue appointments aren't really expected to read much more than the name and date of birth of the patient, people who should be on a two week rule referral get overlooked.

If they're less than helpful (which is possibile - I worked as a Med Sec and some of them were horrendous/useless), the hospital not only has the usual PALS department, there will be someone in the rather inappropriately named (because it isn't a guaranteed diagnosis - many people are actually scared off by the name so it's one of those I think should be changed - unlike paediatrics/phlebotomy/diagnostic imaging, etc) - Cancer Registry. If you tell them the situation, they usually run around sorting everything out pretty sharpish.

And not forgetting LW - I'm going to be up concrete cow way in June for a night and a day, as I have a day school at the Open University. Been ever so brave, was thinking I would never be able to get there/worried about travelling so far by train in the early hours of a Saturday morning, etc. But I had a brainwave - there are things called hotels! So booked into the Travelodge (yes I know they can be dumps, but £20 compared to £89 for the posher hotels? No chance) for the night before. I just have to work out how to get to Walton Hall from there for 10am (and how to manage carrying the CPAP machine as well as a change of clothes and something to write on/with) I tried Google Maps and all I can see is that the whole place seems to consist of dual carriageways and what I would think of as footpaths/alleyways. I can't even work out how to get to the bus stops!

Whatever next - actually using my passport for the first time?

Fuelled by enthusiasm, I shall now go and try to have a bath, as I have to travel to a tutorial in Crawley tomorrow and feel minging. If you hear of an earthquake and flood in London, that will be me trying to do it without drowning myself or breaking something. I shall take the phone, crutch, grabber thing and everything else I can think of. And just hope that I don't get stuck in there.

How sad is having to plan a bath? And how sad is it that being technically unable to do it isn't deemed as being bad for the health by the housing department? I need my transfer and my wet room they promised 'just as soon as you move'!
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

My year is continuing in the same vein - possible wait of up to 9 weeks for hospital appointment and one of the greyhounds has bone cancer so we had to say our goodbyes.

Oral cellulitis flared up again so am quite poorly and have had to cancel plans for a lovely weekend I was really looking forward to as not well enough.

Oh, no, I'm so sorry; poor woofer; I know how it feels to lose a four-legged friend.

Auntie Axe, PLEASE ring the consultant's secretary, as Jojo suggests.

Oh wow, congratulations, Aunty Jennihen.:j Sorry, I missed your post yesterday; I was mega-busy and didn't get to visit the Cafe. Great to see some good news!

I honestly don't know what to advise re the DLA people - I can see your dilemma, but I've never been in your situation.
I was on HRM from day 1, and MRC til 2005; I had a review in 2005 (very nice lady doctor visited me at home) and although I didn't ask for it, I got put up to HRC, presumably because Mr LW has to give me some help at night, every night. I do wish you all the luck in the world; the worry isn't helping, I know. I wish there was something more constructive I could do for you.

*waves* to everyone else; hope you're all having as good a day as you can.:)

Sorry, phone rang while I was typing (Mr LW checking I'm OK:A) so
ETA Jojo when exactly in June are you coming to MK?
Don't know if the following link will be of help with bus planning?

Thank you Jojo, I really hope so too ... things aren't great at the moment and I don't know whether I'm brave or stupid but I have posted a letter to DLA regarding the care rate they reduced to LCR although at the time there was no change in my care needs - The award I received was HMR indefinite and LCR indefinite. I was unable to respond to the decision within the allocated time because I was in hospital having a major op and then recovering! Anyway, I have explained this to them but also told them about changes in my circumstances and my condition since that claim, including having to sell the house and move to a bungalow (which GP supports) because of my needs. So I'm going to have to see how they respond! Oh God what have I done!:(

I do the same when I take a shower Jojo! Take a phone, lock front door and take key out (2 people have a key to the house) and just hope I don't get into difficulties! Can't take a bath because I can't get out as a soak in warm bath makes me worse and weakens my legs for some reason. I hope you get transfered and get your wet room soon!;)

Hope everyone else is ok or as ok that you can be! At least AUTIE JENNIHEN is having a good day today.:j

Cwta, hope you are feeling a bit better today and I agree with Jojo and LW that you should try and phone the consultant's secretary - you've nothing to lose and she may be very helpful.;)

LW Thank you for that. The trouble is although I need help I live alone and it's so hard and a struggle. Lucky that I have such a great nextdoor neighbour who has a key and has told me to phone her anytime day or night (although she works) if I need ... but that is difficult. Last night I slept on the sofa rather than struggling with the stairs, which happens quite often now unless I have to use the bathroom!

It's now going to be a big worry waiting for their response to my letter!

I am so pleased for you jennihen, I have 3 nephews (one of them I'm Godmother) and 2 neices. They are so precious to me especially as I never had children and I certainly won't have any now as I'm too old, and I don't have a man in my life which would help!;) I always wanted children but hey, I can't even look after myself properly!

Finally, after 20 years someone has finally worked out why my vision is so bad and why I have the problems I do.

Not too happy that I had to wait around for 3.5 hours today just to be told that though. (it was so bloody boring - to make it worse, I couldn't see anything for about an hour) :(

sh1305, I'm glad you've had a diagnosis however you don't say what it is, you don't have to say if you don't want to ;). Was it a hospital appointment that you had to wait around for so long? 3.5 hours is a long time!
