Hi peeps - haven't been around for ages as it seemed to have gone a bit quiet in here. Looking forward to hearing you move into your flat, Triala.
I sympathise with the showering, totally - I am not prepared to say exactly when my last ablutions were - I feel like scum, but my bathroom can't be adapted, apparently, so I have to wait an indefinite period of time for a suitable offer of a house before I can get an adapted bathroom/wetroom and actually feel less than skanky once more. Cleanliness is not a necessity for health, according to Housing.
The only thing I have been able to do is chuck jugs of water from the sink in the general direction of my head, just to keep the hair reasonable.
And now, a new consultant has announced that my dodgy right ankle should have been surgically repaired over 12 years ago (really? When I was told I was making a fuss about nothing and I should hop round to the bus stop at 3 am to wait for the first bus home at 6.50am?).
I therefore have to wear an immobilising boot thingie all day every day, trade in my stick for a crutch and attend Hannibal Lecter's Intensive Physiotherapy Course for 'a few months' in a last ditch attempt to avoid my ankle being systematically disassembled and rebuilt again.
Had Uni tutorials the last couple of days, which were interesting to get to on the trains - especially the jumping off onto the platforms and landing on one foot without ending up between the train and the platform.
And I presume the London School of Economics is using the phrase 'fully accessible classroom' in its loosest possible sense - go up the slippery steps to the 'disabled entrance', to be met by 'greeters' on another set of 7 steps, to be told you have to take the lift, turn left, go through 1 solid wood door, and another, and another (passing the disabled toilet - which doubles as the gents), climb down a steep set of steps next to the stairlift (which is switched off at weekends as there is nobody trained to operate it working at weekends) and then find the tutorial room and dump the crutch in the recycling bin as there is nowhere else to put it without it forming a trip hazard for the rest of the group, bearing in mind that, as the tutor said, if we couldn't get off the premises within 5 minutes of the tutorials finishing, the whole place is locked up and you have to climb down a fire escape on the outside of the far end of the buildings. No pressure then.
And why in heaven's name does M&S London Bridge need to make their aisles so narrow that I had no chance of getting down them to the tills without knocking down an entire stretch of chocolates or sideswiping customers at the other tills?
Very keen to avoid surgery - I would be in a non weightbearing cast for months and the experience of getting home today reminded me just how pants that would be - how would I manage to get down the broken concrete steps to the security door, get my keys out of my bag, hold them up to the security pad, open the heavy security door, put the keys back in my bag, get through the security door in 22 seconds before it locks again, close the security door, get up flights 1 - 5 with no handrail and steps too narrow to fit a single size 6 1/2 balancing foot on them, and then get my keys back out of my bag to open my front door, get over the doorframe and then in when I would be holding myself up with two crutches at the same time?
And, when the inevitable happened - how would I manage on the 3rd floor with non weight bearing on one side and another dislocated/broken shoulder/arm on the other?
Sorry - had to have a whinge then. Fed up with smiling sweetly at random strangers being nice to me when I just want to not need their kindness!!!!!!!
Hope all boys/OHs/pets and peeps feel better soon.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
I didn't realise you were at LSE Jo! My Mum went there many years ago. I remember the buildings being old then.
I am lurking but having a bit of a tough time at the moment. Fraid I have my own cancer scare - in my jaw. Have an urgent referral to hospital and am sitting twiddling thumbs til I get the date.
Hugs to all.I must go, I have lives to ruin and hearts to breakMy attitude depends on my Latitude 49° 55' 0" N 6° 19' 60 W0 -
I'm doing OU courses, but one has tutorials at LSE, CWTA. It's still a bit of a dump, but the little cafe - Wrights - is still there. I also have to go to the Uni of Westminster for another course - at least they have some understanding of steps being a Bad Thing inside the building, as well as on the outside!
Sounds a horrid worry with your jaw - hope it's all just one of those things sent to disturb what sleep any of us actually gets at the moment - far prefer seeing the piccies of you smiling rather than worrying about yourself as well as others.

Middle son came out of hospital late on this afternoon....he has to be off school until at least next Thursday, keep off his feet and more importantly...rest and keep taking the antibiotics.
We had great fun in Morrisons....middle son not allowed to be on his feet, I needed shopping so the suggestion was to use one of the wheel chairs. Hmm, big lump of son, arthritic mother and a severely stressed complex autistic youngest son....it was great fun!We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

Random and totally irrelevant idea..... with so many of us having probs with bathing, hair-washing etc, how about we form a folk group....
How does the name THE SKANKIES sound?:D:D
I can probably still do a reasonable impression of Maddy Pryor......
Auntie Axe, (((HUGS))) to you, hope the C scare is just a scare.
SingleSue, glad your lad is out of the hossy; try and get some chill-out time tomorrow.
*Waves* to everyone else; hope you're all having the best weekend you can.If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
Hmmm.... "The Skankies".... We could go a bit indie and call ourselves "The Smelly Sundays".In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0

Hello everyone :hello: just popping in to see how you all are.
Oscar The Grouch, I shall be looking out for your new hair washing machine! For the moment though I'm just glad that I have short hair .. less to try and wash!
SingleSue, so glad your son is now at home, and hopefully you'll have a much easier week and just maybe get a little, much needed rest yourself!
Cwta, Oh dear, sending a big hug to you. I know what you are going through as I had a scare recently. I hope you get the same good news as I did, but I do know how you are feeling.
I'm really feeling exhausted and my brain is mush, which is normal these days. Hope everyone is having a relatively good day.;)0
