  • Hi,
    Sorry to interupt.
I just wanted to come back and say that yesterday I got my official fibromyalgia diagnosis, if anyone remembers me!
I'm suffering, and I might get kicked out of uni on Monday, but at least someone believes it's real.
I hope you are all feeling okay,
    K x

    Well done on the diagnosis!

    Hope uni sorts itself out!

lots of pain killers lol, am on naproxyn, co-codomol/co-drydomol interchanged and amitryptaline at night - but amitriptaline really knocks me out and im a bit spaced the day after so if im planning on driving or anything that takes brain power its a no go.

i have thought about a tens machine and am going to ask dr if it would be any good when he calls me, hopefully this afternoon!

    thank you for listening :)

If you get a referral to a pain clinic, they often loan out TENs. This means you can see if it will work for you before you spend out on one. Having said they, they have come right down in price. You can get an okay one for about £15 and a pretty decent one for about £30, rather than the hundreds it used to be. However - if they don't work for you, it's still £15-£30 saved!

  • thanks :) ive just spoken to Dr who is going to give me something new (beginning with a T i think, dont remember exactly what he said)

he said not to do anything with Tens until my appointment about my Chiari next week becuase it could cause problems there.

He offered to sign me off work, but i pointed out that im better off here walking around and not thinking about the pain than i would be at home, although i have to admit im looking forward to 5:30!

Am walking around the office like a pregnant woman at the moment huffing and puffing and rubbing my back, good job BF is miles away as im not a pretty picture

    I would guess it's Tramadol.

    Hope it helps you. :)

That sounds about right, he said its to replace the co-drydomol and co-codomol and that i can still take paracetamol with it if i really have to - does it have any nasty side effects?

    Hi,
I've just been put on this too, I haven't taken any yet as I'm quite scared, I only picked the prescription up today. We could try it out together :)

Re Uni - I started in September, was advised not to travel in, which they said was fine if I stayed up to date. Then in December they sent me all my coursework, and a general email about changes to attendance. Three unauthorised absences leads to a disciplinary now. Apparently all mine for last term were authorized, and they have requested I meet the disability department (which I did do at the start of term, and they could offer no help). They have suggested I won't be able to continue on the course if I can't attend...the college is in Hinckley (the uni lecturers prefer to teach it there, as there is only 9 of us attending and its less hectic then the uni itself) and I live in Birmingham/Warwickshire.

I've stayed up to date with all coursework, and I'll be gutted if I get kicked off, not to mention completely unable to pay for the accommodation. I'm hoping my GP will write me a letter with the new diagnosis, I asked my consultant but he said he doesn't have time.

I got my DLA papers through the post. It contained my ESA medical report, which was interesting, but I was declined because the nurse contridicted herself, at one point I could walk 10 metres in pain, at one 30 metres 'ably', and I 'didn't look tired'. Hmm

And family problems too. Sometimes I wish I didn't have to get up :(

I can understand why you didnt want to travel, its mad for them to change the goal posts now, have you got anything agreed in writing with them about your distance learning?

And family problems too. Sometimes I wish I didn't have to get up :(family are another one of my problems too, maybe you are my alternate universe twin :)

Tramodol didn't touch my pain (just made me feel sick and dizzy ) but then again codeine and it's friends and relations don't touch the pain either and Tramodol is just another form of codeine (and the pain clinic knows this and still prescribed it, leading to a 3 hour wait at the hospital pharmacy and £7.25 wasted )

  • Not medical advice...not medical advice....

Tramadol made me chuck up constantly, was so dizzy I could lie down and feel like I was falling through the floor and I lost 3 days on it. Doc said I was probably allergic to it.

My mum, however, takes loads of it every day and says it never affects her one bit, so wouldn't be without it.

Just in case, I wouldn't plan anything too strenuous the day you take your first couple of tablets, but you'll probably be fine, even if a little vague at first!
