Having followed the various threads of budget priced DVD Recorders, it seems that the Technika stands out as the better buy than the Cyberhome. is that so?
I'm contemplating getting the Tesco one and have noticed that the majority of buyers are from the innermost towns of the Uk as opposed to we " Cousin Jacks" dwelling in the most re3mote county of Cornwall! Have there been any buyers in that area, and if so, which Tescos stock them? As far as I can see, the newest Tesco at Pool may be the only stockist?
ThxsBetter in my pocket than theirs!0 -
I have the Technika one, bought a few weeks ago from Tesco in Milton Keynes. It was £80, but I also had a voucher for £8 off "non-food items", so it worked out even cheaper!! :-) For those that don't know, this is a rebadged Yamada 8400 unit, that has some good ratings for its price (they normally go for around £90-£100 on e-bay, plus about £10 for delivery, so this Tesco one is a good buy)
It works really well. I've loaded various disk types, including the new season of Lost (!), and they all play really well. HDTV ones, DIV/x, etc.
It converts from NTSC to PAL ok, so no more Black and White films.
Other neat things are that it can be made multi-region, and the firmware inside can also be updated:

But, as they say, you pays your money and takes your chances...Always after a bargain... :-)0 -
I got hold of one of these in Newbury at the weekend, very impressed so far. Plays Divx and mpegs wonderfully and even on super long play records in really good quality. More features than I can get to grips with so far so all in all happy with the buy, have made it multiregion successfully too so it definitely can be done, just follow the steps on the dvd reviewer site.
Way to go tescos!0 -

Hi all
First post for me, I bought this player before Christmas, finally got round to setting it up last nite.
The main reason I bought it is to convert our video tapes onto DVDs. I did the first one last nite and it taped ok.
My plan was to then copy the DVD on to my laptop so I could burn other DVDs using this method, rather than having to connect two DVD players together and wait 3 hours for all my tapes to play and convert!
But my laptop won't play the DVD I recorded! I assumed it would.
Can anyone help me out here, have I recorded the DVD in the wrong format or is my assumption wrong that I can watch recorded DVDs on my laptop, then burn it on to other DVDs??
I haven't had the laptop long and haven't done anything like this before!
Many many thanks in advance.

You need to select video mode for the DVD to play on a standalone DVD player or PC then finalise the DVD.
Also sometimes better using a DVD-R or +R although a RW will work on my JVC dvdrecorder0 -
You have to 'FINALISE' the DVD before it will play in another DVD player. There should be an option in the DVD recorder menu to do this.0

Thanks for the replies but i'm lost
According to previous posts, this dvd player finalises disks itself (not that i even know what that means)
In terms of selecting "Video mode", do I have to do that to the dvd player before i start recording with it?
Sorry to be such a pain :doh:0
