Has anyone used DVD+RW discs? on this unit. I did and it did not let me finalise the disc. Is this normal. I did not find any mention of this in the manual. I had assumed that you would finalise both type of discs.
Also what brand of discs is everyone else using with this machine?0 -
The benefits of DVD+ discs is that you DO NOT need to finalise them. With regards to previous talks of recording from ntl/sky etc, can't you record via scart, selecting the AV channel when doing so? I am surprised to hear you can copy dvd to dvd on it though as it is law that modern technology carries copy protection like macrovision etc (unless of course the hacked firmware spoken about removes this feature).0

hello people. im new on this forum. i did a google search for "technica dvdr2005" and this is where i ended up.
is nobody else having problems with this machine? im on my second one of this week! when i play some dvds the background sound works but the speech doesnt play. just actors moving there lips and no sound. or occasionally the sound is very quiet and distorted like im listening underwater. but some dvds play fine.
ive tried using different scart cables and tried it on different tvs but its exactly the same. it seems totally random as to which discs it plays fine and which it doesnt. some downloaded movies play fine, and some legitimately purchased discs dont. when watching "not another teen moviee" the speech doesnt work, but if i play deleted scenes from the extras menu these scenes play okay.
every one of these dvds plays fine on two other dvd players in my house and on my pc. what is going on? defective batch? when i returned it the shop assistant told me they had had no other returns.0 -
Bizzare! Thrown LOADS of stuff at this machine and it plays fine.
Only problem I had was with -RW disks recorded frm my PC (which has a very dodgy DVD recorder on it!) - other than than - it has played everything - including a DATA disk with MP3/AVI/MOV/MPEGS on it (didnt play the AVI - wrong format or something)
Mine works fine with 5.1 or 2 channel through my TV.
As I have said - mine is spot on with everything
You do need to finalize the disks or it wont play in some players. Mine will finalise +R or +RW.
Had to draw a diagram to suss out the cabling of SCART in and out to get the correct setup for me. I have
DVD recorder connected to TV and to SKY+ via SCART and OPTICAL out to a HIFI.
One thing - is everyones SCART plugs in far enough? They are notorious for falling out or looking like they are all they way in, when actually they are not and this can cause an audio channel to be missing or video to be dodgy.
If I can be anyhelp - please PM me - dont want to take up space with ramblings!0 -
zaccy wrote:You have the Analog Audio Output set to 5.1 ch (default setting)
With no disc playing or recording, press "setup" then scroll down one to "playback". Then select "Analog Audio output" and set it to "2Ch" then you will hear ALL the sound Track.
The default setting imo shold be 2ch as a lot of people will be caught out by this (I was)
Cheers
well thanks!!! thats it fixed in 2 seconds. it certainly had me caught out.
i think the main problem was that the setting i needed to change isnt accessibe when there is a disc in the machine.
anyway, thanks again.0 -
This happened to me to. I couldn't access the options to turn 2 channel sound on. But then realised you have to go into the settings with no disc in the player to access it.
On the whole this is a top player, played almost anything I threw at it, i.e. DivX, Mpeg2, Mpeg1, XVid, VCD, SVCD, and of course DVD.
Recorded off of Sky using the RGB scart connection onto a Philips DVD+RW on highest quality and when played back you cannot tell that it's playing off the DVD, looks just like it's live TV.
Recorded off my Digital Camcorder using the DV In connection, and again a perfect copy.
Whats the best way to connect this. I have a Sony TV with 2 scarts (only 1 is RGB), and a sky box (with 2 scarts one for VCR one for TV)
I tried connecting the sky box to the Scart in on the recorder and then the scart out to the TV, but I don;t seem to get RGB pass through.0 -
Genie, which scart are you coming out of from the SKY box? Are they both RGB from SKY? Just thinkin that SKY may only have RGB from one of its scarts.0

Can someone confirm the returns policy for this dvd recorder. An earlier post says try and take it back but the Tesco website says unwanted electrical items must be returned within 14 days in their original undamaged packaging.
From that I assume it means unopened, cos its got that white plastic binding all the way round for a start.I am a cider drinker - like my father before me.0 -

Its a normal pace sky box, One with a label 'TV' on it, and one with a label 'VCR' on it. I think only the 'TV' scart on the Sky box has RGB out.
So when I'm watching a DVD I have scart out from DVD to 'VCR' Scart on Sky box, and then 'TV' scart on Sky box going to my Sony TV (only 1 RGB scart).
When I want to record, I have to re-arrange so that the SkY 'TV' scart goes to Scart In on the DVD recorder, then the scart out on the DVD recorder goes to the TV - so the recording is done in RGB, but my TV does not seem to display the output of the DVD in RGB (even though Scart out goes to TV's RGB scart)
Sorry if I've confused the hell out of you.
Here how it's linked.0 -
Genie why don't you have it like this:
Aerial in on dvd player and output to tv aerial input
1 Sky box scart to DVD input and the other to the tv
A third scart out from DVDoutput to the 2nd tv scart input
And then just switch the source on the remote for recording off sky or terrestrial tv
Of course I am assuming that the sky box has two scart outputs like the ntl box that I use.....sorry if notHappiness is wanting what you have, not having what you want.
Primum non noce!0
