I sent hubby down to Tesco Stevenage and he swapped our old one for the one that Foxyloys has(same serial number etc).
This one recognises - discs but wont record on them.
    Totally confused now.
The new one isn't any quieter either.
It has a whistley sound to it.

I assume I have the old one as it wont accept - discs although when I just tried some TDK + ones - the DVDR came up with bLAN? Have had trouble recording on to these?

Anyone know what bLAN is - could it be telling me the disc is bLAN(k)?

I'm trying to record from SKy+ and in the booklet for the DVDR it says it will only record for 30 minutes - you have to press record again to extend recording time - would I still need to do this when recording from Sky+.

Am beginning to think I have bought a bit of a nightmare machine although people seem to rate them on here and avforums - must be operator error!
  • Hi there! I'm going to buy one of these today if I can find a store with them in stock. Can anyone tell me if you can record one channel and watch another? Its just my mums dvdr will only record the channel your watching and I don't see the point in that. I have sky I don't know if that makes a difference!
  • When into Derry this morning and picked up the last one of these in the store.

Just opened it and no manual, no remote and no blank disc. Not worried about the disk or even the manual, but a bit useless without a remote. Also very annoyed that this has obviously been sold and returned and then put back on the shop floor :(

Seems a good recorder, but seems I'll have to get a refund :(

Been using this model for about 6 months now.The old model is quite sluggish, from the remote and buttons on the unit.To tracy earlier, you can one touch record by pressing record several times until the required recording time is shown,ie 30 mins 60 mins etc.Depending on your set up you can watch any channel while recording ,but unsure when on sky/freeview

The stock they have in the Tesco Extra at Stevenage are the newer "batch" - not that it indicates this on the box. Not sure if the box for the new batch differs from the old batch (as I only have the new one).

Mine has a serial number which begins 2005060326. Could be 26/3/06 manufactured date??. Near the barcode is has the code "SC104490"

Just to confirm that I got my folks one of these, ie with that serial number beginning 2005etc based on foxyloxy's report.

Tried it out today and can confirm that it worked very well.

When you insert a recordable DVD it reports the disc format with a one line display on screen, and reported DVD+RW, DVD+R AND DVD-R (though I did NOT record on the DVD-R to prove the point).

The MultiRegion hack (so can play DVD Region 1's from the USA for example) as picked up from another forum worked just fine, ie:
    1. Turn on player (with Standby button on player), without any disc in the drawer
    2. When "No Disc" appears on screen, open the tray (I used the button on the player, don't know if that matters)
    3. Press 0 0 8 6 0 0 0 on the remote, then press "Select" on the remote
(the last number is the region setting - 0 for multiregion, other numbers for that specific region) - ONLY the last "0" will appear on the screen
    4. Turn player off (without closing tray first) using the button on the player.
    5. Turn on and enjoy a multiregion player.

Used it for about 30 minutes checking out if/how it worked and didn't find the remote particularly poor though SO many buttons s/be an offence! At one stage we did get it to go into some state we didn't recognise but unplugging it and plugging it back in sorted that.

Only ONE downside that is apparent, namely NO battery backup for the clock so a power interruption will presumably mean no recording from the timer.

So far so good based on 30 minutes experimentation anyway.

Well I picked mine up at Tesco Extra Kingston Milton Keynes last Friday evening and they had 3 on display at the time (upstairs in the electrical section, among all the other more expensive DVD recorders). Was marked as clearance on the £58.49 (from memory) price sticker.
