Hi, this is the OS Daily thread for Wednesday 15th October . It is an 'over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start does just as well.
Morning Everyone
Well it took me two attempts to get the sticky here, and this is my second attempt at saying good morning. Seems my connection today has some similarity to the underware of a certain nightime occupation (if you can call it that!).
Yet again the annual "discussion" has upset more than it fixed by the sounds of it, and come on H-J who am I going to spa with if you depart. Some of you a dab hands in the kitchen (like H-J) others are good at craft work, but cooking is a chore (it is to me I do it, but cannot really say I totally enjoy cooking), it seems to eat my day up, but if I enjoyed it I would want it to, IYKWIM, but I enjoy craft work. We need the mix and the differences to make the thread whole, OS is not just cooking IMHO. While not enjoying cooking personally I do enjoy reading about it, what people have made, and how to do things, it does inspire and give one ideas, and as a result I am doing more cooking now than I have for years, not for a MS reason either, and I do not think the hardcore of Daily OSers would belittle anything.
Someone asked on Mondays thread for OS wannabes to have tips, let me explain a little where I come from, my Mum was the youngest of 9 and her Dad lost a leg in a Pit accident, so funds were short to say the least, Grandma was worn out by the time she came to leave school so she was not allowed to get a job but to help at home (you did as parents said in those days) She had to sew and knit to have any clothes, and unpick and reuse both material and wool. So she was naturally careful with money even though Dad had a good job, and I obviously picked things up. When we married in 1973, we had to fight to get a £6,000 mortgage (mortgate famine), sounds a dream today but combined wages were £70 per week. Interest rates were going up all the time, and had 3 mortgage increases between signing for the house and getting married (3 months). It took us to the limit we had nothing spare. We had £7 for petrol (10% of the weekly wage) and to go out, we had enough to go and have a drink or two (cheap ones beer/cider) each or a drive in the countryside and share a shandy. We had to be frugal, "tight" as we call it. We dare not buy anything on credit as we did not have anything to pay it with. Life got easier after a year or two, but still "tight" today, it has become automatic. We used to have friends round, or go to theirs and share a bottle of cheap wine and play card and board games, and laugh until we ached, we were all in the same boat. Enjoy the pleasures you can afford and don't hanker after the moon.
My day today is Breakfast (weetabix with banana sweetener & skimmed milk) - [strike]for Lunch we are going out with friends for a menu del dia somewhere of their choice. They have had visitors all summer so loads to catch up on. Dinner will be very small and depending if we can face any after lunch. [/strike] Lunch/Dinner now being rethought as we speak due to cancellation. I will try to tackle the ironing mini mountain before it becomes a real one.
(((hugs))) where needed (still need to catch up Mon/Tues). Welcome Newbies - Hi everyone, nice to be back.

Glad I'm not the only one up at silly o'clock!
I found some white vinegar yesterday when I went for my Stardrops so will give it a go on my mirrors and windows today.
Have been ill all week so my house looks like a bomb has hit it so Im going to do a big de-clutter (carbooty looming!) and pre-xmas clean. Just need motivating a bit because Im still a bit shaky and shattered but it needs doing and I know it will make me feel better when everything is in order etc. Come on, give me that kick up the bum!!!MSE-ing since 20070 -
Good Morning, my list of jobs for today is quite long, im typing this while using my new SAD box i think it is helping what with the dark nights coming in even more.
Im having a work friend coming over tomorrow who is exceptionally over the top about cleanliness (she goes about at work bleaching and disinfecting after cleaners have been in!) so im a little paranoid!! my list is continually growing!!
Going to take naughty dog for a walk this morning - ever since we got him back from the kennels a week or so ago he has been disobediant and won't recall at first/second/third/fourth attempt, he is only a 6 mth pup but still! back to lessons me thinks lolLove a charity shop bargain0 -
Good morning everyone and welcome to so many newbies - it's great to have you on board.
Donny - I hope you manage to get your connection stabilised; it must be frustrating.
I wasn't able to come back on here after dinner last night. DS2 and DIL called round and we got talking about pets that we've had over the years (all long since shuffled off to pet heaven) so we made the huge mistake of getting the photos out - three hours later and we had to force ourselves to put them all away, but it was a great trip down memory lane and DIL has seen some photos of her new husband that made her laugh till she cried!
Anyway, back to OS - tonight we are having a chicken curry using leftover chicken that has been in the freezer for a while. I shall make the rice in the Remoska first and keep it warm while the curry cooks. I shall be collecting DGS from school this afternoon so I'm looking forward to that.
Lunch will be leek and potato soup - also make in the Remoska.
I'm off for a shower.
Have a great day everyone and (((hugs))) to all who are unwell or worried or would just like one.

Well I don't quite know what all the fuss is about with the thread. Decided not to read the discussion after a bit or post on it. HARIBO and others who may feel like it, please don't stop posting. Welcome back returnees and new peeps.
Passed my course yesterday so that's me up-to-date for another year. Don't quite know what to do today as OH will be in bed. Will go to the allotment if it's dry, if not it will be quiet housework. Tea is kedgeree, OH will be pleased.
Have a good day all and big hugs to all who need one.

Morning peeps
*kicks Nicky_Sue up the bum*If anyone needs a kick about the housework lately it`s me so i shall expect one back
I work such long and awkward hours that by the time i`m home and the hounds are walked the tea cooked and the kitchen sorted out it`s time for bed and usually it`s all i can do to get the lunches prepared for the next day before i fall asleep
I have two more days to w*rk then a couple off though so i shall catch up with all my jobs then, at least i got the 2 curtain poles up although there are yet to be any curtains on them.
This morning i managed to get the dw on before i left and the bm was on the timer overnight so DH shall empty those before he sets of for the houndies morning walk.
Still no pectin for the marmalade  at least it`s in sealed jars, there is a shop nearby to w*rk so at lunchtime i shall slip out and see if it`s sold there.
Dinner tonight should be spanish omelette and probably beans but if anything else takes my fancy i`ll swap the meal planner around.
Thanks to all who answered yesterday about the bayleaves, i shall put them in the various places later today
Catch up later, have a good day everyone.
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -
Morning all  and hi to the newbies
Kathy, how do you do rice in the Remoska, I wondered whether I could do a curry in one part and rice in the other if I use my separater pan ?
Jannyannie, what are you growing on your allotment. We have dug up all the onions and potatoes and just have a few cabbages left that we are sharing with the snails
Work today, so chicken chasseur inthe slow cooker and I am ashamed to say I am using a ready made jar of sauceThink I will take ham and beetroot sandwiches for lunch, and the beetroot is home grown, so I am being a bit OS there
It is really dark out there this morning, so will be glad when the clocks go back
Have a good day everyone xYou're only young once, but you can be immature forever0 -
morning all.
Wet and miserable here today, which is typical as today we have a team build at work, which involves (we think) a ten mile hike and a treasure hunt, its all been organised for us, so I will let you know later what happens. So I will be out of the house for 10 hrs +, so I am afraid not a lot of os will be done today. Will shove the dw on this morning, and swish and swipe, (dont know what's happened to my font).
Hello to all the new posters, nice to meet you xx
Smoky, hope you and the children are ok.
Marie, hope Ulick is behaving himself xx
Have good days folks xx0 -
Morning all:wave:
Not much going on here OSwise. I'm waiting in for the WM repair bloke (might be a repair girl you never know) really hope he/she can fix it today. The washing mountain has reached critical mass now and I'm running out of clothes.
I didn't manage to bake muffins yesterday for the lunchboxes so I shall do that this morning.
Feeling a bit rough today (a bad cold) so I think it'll have to be plain old toast for breakfast plus a piece of fruit.
Packed lunches are hm rolls filled with chicken liver pate (cream cheese for ds2 who won't eat liver), cucumber and carrot sticks, apples and flapjacks.
I shall have pate and toast.
Supper will be sausage and bean stew (lots of veg in it) and baked spuds.0 -
Good Morning All
Today is my nice day of the week - I have Tai Chi this morning. Proper OStlyrs look away now - I will go into town early & pop into M&S for something nice for my lunch, will also treat myself to a mocha coffee.
This afternoon have a small amount of office work to do then think will spend the rest of the day ironing. Was going to do a load of washing but believe that is meant to rain most of the day, the washing wont dry inside as its lovely and mild so no heating on.
Fry up is written on my menu plan so will dig out some bacon from the freezer and make a loaf. This will be done in the Remoska which I have so far used every day this week:j
Have a great day all.

Nearly forgot to say - thanks to Candygirl & others asking about my Dad - he seems a lot better at the moment but I am keeping an eye on things. Depression is a horrible illness.0 -
Morning. Computer was on a go slow this morning. I have taken the day off to visit with friends, so looking forward to that.
pity it is raining.
Freecycle people are getting me down again. I have offered several things recently and get loads of e-mails. Then when it comes time for collection you hear nothing. Why bother replying if you don't want something?
Don't know what we are eating today, so can't post that.
Just wanted to check in and say morning reallyNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0
