My only problem seems to be that it freezes sometimes if I leave on standby, so then it won't record from timer, and I have to turn it off to start again. It doesn't seem to lose the settings but it is unreliable. I don't seem to have the 'no signal' problem any more for some reason? Why is better now than just after the software upgrade?

So far im very impressed with the Humax-9200t

    Gonzo,
    Thanks for posting this info.
I've made the decision to take my PVR101 back 1) because of the bugs and 2) because its not proper twin tuner record.
However, somethings holding me back from boxing it up and driving down to Aldi, and I think its the because I'm now completely hooked on PVRs.

From your description it sounds like the Humax is crash and virtually bug free, which for an extra £100 or so I'd rather have.
But is there anything in the 9200t that which is a step backward from the PVR101? And how long has the 9200t been out - ie. Is there any chance of a newer model soon? (Eg. a new version with a bigger HD would reduce the price of the 9200t).

THe Humax 9200t came out around September 2005, in small quantites that is why the price is still holding. Its launch was put back time and time again, and much was written prior to the launch on other forums in anticipation.. Humax's previous model was th 8000t which had a single tuner and 40 gig hd, and is some two years old now. So developments do not happen quickly, mainly because Freiew is mostly UK specific. In the beginning there was SKY + ( by PACE) for digital sattelite tv and Tivo ( French) for analogue tv, you have to pay monthly for the EPG updates on both of these. Tivo is a generic term for pvr in the States now, but cost spoiled its chances here. Pace brought out a Freeview version of SKY+ but spoiled it by putting an expensive laptop hd in it limiting upgrades ( max 80gig costing an arm and a leg). The fusion models are made down the road from Pace by a firm set up by one of the Pace founders after a fall out. they are around 15 months old and promised models with dvd recorders as well, but again their progress is slow. Topfield is the top of the range, but another £60ish on top of the Humax.

Best places to find out is to visit the pvr sections of Digital spy and DVD forum webpages,

PS seems like the Humax is not entirely bug, or recording loss free.

Try turning off "automatic updates". I think it checks more than once a day for updates, and maybe this is causing the hangs. I've not had a hang since It turned it off a few days ago.

My box also seems to fire up at 11:03 (AM) everyday for some reason.

Which, of course, would be 3 a.m. Pacific Standard Time (PST). Perhaps the software was written in California after all!!!
  • The No Signal is becomming a pain now. Much worse since the update.
