The update for the PVR101 was repeated this week from 10/1/06 to 12/1/06, finishing at 11pm last night. If you were unable to download it during this time then you may have a problem with your box.

If you missed it, it will undoubtedly be repeated again - as posted previously, look out for it here -

My box ONLY recorded 1Mb. I decided it must be hardware as it was not a fault other people were recording. I finally took it back this week to Aldi and swapped it for a new one.

The new one records fine (allowing for the software? problems already logged) but I couldn't get it to pick up the last software update for some reason.....it failed in manual and auto update....so I am stuck with v1.0 unless or until there is another update.
Make sure you don't press "OK" when prompted during the installation as this actually cancels the operation rather than continues it. If it still fails to download you could try a channel on Multiplex B rather than Multiplex 1 (IE if it doesn't work on BBC1 then try it on BBC4) when it's re-broadcast.

Interestingly, the Aldi manager said that these were subject to a 'product recall'. If so, they are not well publicising it!
I suspect what he means is they have been asked to remove any remaining stock from the shelves. AFAIK there is not a general product recall. No feedback from "the engineers" yet.
  • Do you need to update the pvr manually or is it done automatically if left switched on during that time period

That was confidential info, not to be reported till after the event.
Managing Directors are getting involved, as this is going to the top.
BTW Mine is one of the six. and the nice gentleman was the Key boss. He spent all Wed night driving round to pick them up.
Key are fighting your corner as the Germans wanted a total recall/refund

Wish I'd thought of that! What a way to get hold of half a dozen PVRs on the cheap. I hope the 'nice gentleman' showed some credible ID???

Seriously, sounds like he's the guy we need to be sure sees Lorian's blog.

    Nope!

I think they have either got their money back or haven't had a chance to do it yet after the half-measure OTA fix.

If Aldi/Technosonic had bothered to issue some sort of statement of intent maybe I would have persevered, but I'm shortly going to become a non-owner like many people already have!

I'm not worried ,except that Technotrend want a total recall, so as Aldi seem to be complying, having withdrawn them. It might be a refund a comin instead of a working pvr.

No worries about nice bloke being legit, as I was called by a guy I have met (from Key) to ask if I would co-operate and have an official receipt signed by Key MD. ;) Lets hope they dont go bust

It's like others have said, Version 1.1 seems to have stabilised the recording glitches. The only remaining problem for me is the random No Signal issue. If they can solve that, I'll be happy.

The design functionality is fine and the unit is quiet and unobtrusive.

Undoubtably many have returned their units for a refund. There are others like myself who are hanging on for now waiting to see if a solution is found. In the meantime there is not much more to be said that has not been said many times before, so that accounts for why things are much quieter. If something else comes along which convinces us it is a better buy then we have the option of returning it to Aldi. Best of both worlds IMO.
