I'm exhausted by the whole thing, so just relaxing now.

Looking forward to counting my money in 12 months. :j

    unless.........................
  • I've had some bad luck opening accounts...missed the damn boats

Co-operative Bank - they've re-newed their interest rates on 17th October - the day after I posted off the forms for a 2 year fixed bond with monthly interest. Its dropped from 5.12% net to a pathetic 3.9% (1.22% drop) ...not happy so I'm phoning Monday to change to a 1 year (5.05% net) or cancel it

Nationwide - was hoping to open an e-bond for one year at 6.50%, they've changed all their products now with tiered amounts and poor rates. To get 5% net I have to open a 6 month bond with maturity interest. Have to wait for this damn FlexAccount to open - haven't received anything and its been a week already!

I'm assuming banks are expected interest rates to continously fall then?

On a plus I opened a Halifax Fixed Rate Websaver @ 7% yesterday and stuck £500 in there for 6 months...may make up the loss if Co-operative don't pull through.
I would normally have a cup of tea

Oh just make one up. A non-existent one is best. Look what happened to Sarah Palin when she used a real answer to that question.

It would even be better if it were unpronounceable however sometimes you need to give it over the phone.

With regard to managing 32,193,624 pieces of "memorable" data, I use Keepass which encrypts login details under a single master password. There are versions that run on a PDA. There is also KeyPassX for Linux and Mac. Both are free.

I do do something similiar to this. In fact, I generate long random numbers for use on these occasions. Makes phoning up slightly more interesting ("yes, my mother's maiden name is 34B248FF2354884C!"). These things are supposed to be memorable though; something you know intuitively. Putting arbitrary limits on the length and content of the data just makes people make something up and then forget it. Or write it down and make it even less secure than using something that friends/family would know.

Well, I thought I was weaning myself off new accounts, but...........
I have just opened a Northern Rock e saver.

This really must stop! It's not as if I have that much money to spread around anyway.

I know this topic has migrated a little so firstly: Yes, I'm well into double figures - I am one with a 3 card trick of Iceland banks: Icesave, KE and Heritable. And for the irony I was already maxed (UK compensation pre increase) with ING...
Logons: I have one online broker account for which the sign on requires 9 characters, must be alphanumeric, at least 2 numbers, case sensitive. Nothing unusual? But this must incorporate a space not at the begining and not at the end...
The hardest sign on in my opinion is Nationwide... I can never get in without phoning em...

    Oh Yeah !!!!

I've always used excel to religiously record and update everything. I also have ms money 2007 but I've never really had the opportunity to learn how to use it properly. Excel is a very powerful tool when you know what you're doing but I'd like to use a more friendlier and cleaner interface.

Is there anywhere I can read up on ms money tutorials specifically relating to savings and the savings features of the program? I remember briefly looking at it and being unable to figure out how to simply add a savings account, I don't think it offered specifics.

For me, Coventry is the worst for logging in. I know darn well that I entered the correct memorable word...but Noooo...computer said NO.
Why don't they give you the choice of any of your three memorable words each time?
Still waiting for details to be reset.

Back to topic. I'm so tempted to go for the Kent Reliance 1 year fixed bond.
But I've opened so many accounts this past few weeks, due to the £50,000 guarantee, that I just wonder, can I go though another. Better get a move on if I want to.

Oh... are the the posts from MariaTom SPAM?
