I joined OS last year, wasn't sure what to expect, but love the thread:)
I love the chat and the OS advice and tips, and have made some great friends there:)
If I want specific recipes or cleaning advice, I also look at the OS board recipe index and flylady threads:)I thought Daily chat meant stuff exclusive of this too:o
Maybe i'm guilty of posting extended moans and chatty posts,I do try to throw in some laughs too, but if the thread becomes solely about what I do OS style my posts will be even duller believe me;)
I would hate the thread to change , but if it does so be it:o"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

Can't you just have two Daily threads? One could be 'the gossip daily' where the chat is just friendly chat about all sorts and the other could be 'the factual daily' where you post about more practical type stuff?
You'll never please everyone but it's always nice to try to.Well done for being willing to consider all POV. :T
I agree with this. I am not a regular on the daily thread, but I’ve had times this year when I have got – much needed – comfort from the regulars. If they get comfort and support from it – I think it should continue.
A new – For OSie – things daily thread could be run alongside, it’s not a problem really.
What I miss on OS is the ‘Saga’ threads. Thriftlady’s ‘Wartime’ thread, the ‘Shabby Chic’ and ‘Pantry’ type threads. We still have ‘Tougher Times’ and ‘Simplifying Life’ threads as well as Weezle’s fascinating thread. I enjoyed mbaz living on £20 as well.
I look at MSOS every day, but, apart from the above, nothing really ‘grabs’ me at the moment.
But, back to the subject of the thread, I think live and let live and let’s have two dailys.0 -

Martin did not set this place up as a cliquey little chat forum.
It is a consumer and money saving forum.
However he has provided a place for chat 'The Money Savers Arms' the thread could be moved there.*Make every day Caturday*0 -

. Occasionally, I follow a thread that's been moved on to the daily board and go all grumpy old woman when I see a page of posts about the weather and who's put some washing out.
I want to shout "Go out and talk to people". Most annoying (and I know I sound really bitter and twisted here) are people with children who seem to post all day. I really want to push them out of the door so they can talk to real people.
It's sad that so many people feel unable to post there, though and, as said, it does have a very cliquey feel which, to me, is out of synch with the ethos of this board. If such a thread is needed (and there do seem to be people with this need) I feel it should be on a chat board like the Arms.) done!
On that note I am off to enjoy him. Thanks for that reminder life is for living and posting not just posting!
xx
PS My opinions on the thread too (suppose that was what you were asking P & P lol)
I have posted on the daily thread a few times, and must say I have been made to feel welcome by many of the posters.
This said, I do find it a bit hard to keep up with, as it does feel like everyone knows each other/each others business, and tbh I don't have time to post more than once a day, or even every day sometimes. I also, sadly, don't have time to read all the posts and feel a bit insincere just thanking without really reading.
I do think if people want to have personal chat they can PM each other easily enough, without cluttering up the board.
Hope this is of some help Pink and Penny.

Great then they take up double the room.*Make every day Caturday*0 -
But the thread doesn't need to change it just needs to be moved. It isn't fair on people who come to use this forum for the purpose it was intended for. It just takes up space.

And permission was given by the MSE team to have the Daily thread on the OS board. Why are you so desperate to see it moved? Can't you just ignore it as you hate it so much and think we are all so pathetic?0 -
Hello to Nimbo :hello:
I assumed chat about our day and mutual support to be as old style as you could get.
Even something as basic as hanging washing out and agonising over how to get stuff dry can be helpful to someone if it suggests something they have not thought of.
It was chats in the daily thread ages ago about slow cookers, bread makers or Remoskas that helped me decide to invest in them.
I miss troo, thriftlady and queenie as well."This site is addictive!"

.
I am off to have a look back at the thread from a few years back to see how it has changed.
I have just looked back as far as I could, and tbh not a lot has changed  , there always has been a lot of chat, although it does seem that we are guilty of chatting more and more now, perhaps we could all reign it in a little bit, but I do like to read about peoples days, as I said a thread full of wm, dw is on would be sooooo dull.
And please people be nice to others, as i said of you dont like it dont look. Simple.0 -
I think its really sad and quite nasty that people are coming on here and s*****g off the daily thread, its quite simple if you dont like it, then dont look at it.
Because they were asked - if you read the first thread it quite clearly asks what people think of it. The very point of this is to ask people who DON'T read it why not - as well as the posters who regularly post on there.
The original question was:
Please will contributors, old and new, and any lurkers out there, let us have their comments and we’ll do our best to come up with a solution that suits to the vast majority of Old Style posters.
With your attitude, many of us will stay well away - so thanks for the comment!0 -
