I don't think it belongs in here, can't it be moved to the ' The Money Savers Arms' with the other pointless threads.
I mean I think it's fab that bettymilkbottlelids has managed to put out her washing today and that she averted a near disaster when seagull two miles away nearly headed in her direction and pooed on her dear sons favourite pair of batman pyjamas that she got from the catalogue (he has nightmares if he wears a different pair).
I mean seriously, well done you, but I don't think we should pretend it is other than what is. A chat thread.

There are plenty of people who wouldn't call the support they have had "pointless" No one is forcing you to read about someone elses washing.;)

I have all but stopped posting on the Daily. I used to enjoy the mix of OS and craic but lately it has veered more towards the chat and hugs.
I'm sure it is boring for some but to me it is a place where like minded souls post about their OS day. Housewifery can be a lonely job. Of course it should include chat as it would be unfriendly without it but IMHO it shouldn't dominate the thread. I feel that it has actually got to the stage where I feel a bit stupid and out of place if I post that I have been cooking, baking, gardening and preserving. It looks like I've wandered onto the wrong thread or that I'm the one who's off topic. I have made great online friends on here but I do try to keep my chat with them to pm.

To MagentaSue... I too feel that some people with young children spend alot of time online on MSE (not especially on the Daily though) but really, who are we to judge? You may want to tell people to get out a bit more but perhaps you should remember that there are those who simply can't.

Fi27, I'm sorry you felt like the Daily was cliquey. We were all new once and managed to break through. I'm sorry if I or anyne else made you feel unwelcome.

I have read this and think thatyou are correct not all of the posts are Old Style and the OS tips and such do get lost amongst the chat,, it used to be full of tips and recipes , and if you just skim through you dont really see the OS comments
I hope I havent put my foot innit again but these are my views,,

its nice to hear about peoples lives though and chat

If they are your views why do you fill the thread with huge pictures and very little OS tips, on one day alone you posted 4 cartoon pics.
  • I actually started posting on the DFW board, but they were just interested in criticising my husband.

I want to be Old Style, and I am struggling. The chat thread was encouraging me to get there.

I have read and sometimes enjoyed the cross fire in the Arms, but the people there are likely to find my little round extremely dull. There is no point in posting there.

I am extremely isolated and there was nowhere else for me to go.

I think its really sad and quite nasty that people are coming on here and s*****g off the daily thread, its quite simple if you dont like it, then dont look at it.

I am also guilty of going off topic, and will try to stop it, but a thread full of: wm on sc on washing out would be dull.

I know that the chat is a lifeline for some of the posters who are housebound due to illness, and its a great support thread, two of the regular posters have recently lost someone close to them, and I am sure the support must have helped them in some way.

As for it being full of clicky mums, its not, I am a fairly new poster and never felt that I did not belong, perhaps you should post, you will be amazed at the welcome you get.
I am sorry thet some of the ;long standing posters have left, please come back.

I think it shoud stay basically how it is, with perhaps a bit less chat, for those who are moaning about it, then dont look.

I am off to have a look back at the thread from a few years back to see how it has changed.

morning everyone....i dont always read the daily thread as it gets so huge and i like to read as much of everything else as i can......it would be a shame to stop the daily thread as it seems so many get a lot out of it, would it be easier to keep it and have another thread specifically for old style hints and tips alone i love what thriftylady and queenie and others (tooo many to mention sorry all) and love to try out their tips.. e.g i just loved thriftylady's ww2 experience and tried the recipes etc and bought nearly all the ww2 cook books mentioned and have got my mum,dd ds and nieces involved and for the past few months we've even gone to 1940's events...
anyway can we have a hints and tips old style thread for thriftlady and co to post on for us and still keep the daily for the others...sorry for all the waffle
    luv slash
  • hmmm see im one of the pretty much cant be bothered to post anymore people.but thats my own personal choice.
right from the beginning there was always a bit of chat about otherstuff etc and some of it we wouldnt be without and it needs to be there for support and should be mentioned (smoky for example) but some people in particular dont ever post anything that is actually relevant to old style.
it used to be a thread that i really couldnt miss as there would be tips, advice etc in....now its quite frankly a very nice chat thread and a good place to be nosey but its not an essential read anymore.

but as troo said you cant please everyone and you never will...we've had this with the grocery thread and i expect to see it happen some day with the fly lady thread too.....i just think if you dont like it dont read it/post on it which is how ive taken it.each to their own.you cant expect everything to be to your own personal taste all the time which is what some people seem to expect to be honest.

i cant see what harm it does to leave the thread as it is as said already if you dont like it dont use it,i dont neccesarily like or use all of mse,all the forum,s but im not about to ask that we get rid of bits and bobs here and there.its simple its here, its fabulous and its free....use what you want!!

Regardless of the chat issue, I don't think the Daily is the place for carton pictures. Beth was giving an example. That's why she counted them.
