Can't you just have two Daily threads? One could be 'the gossip daily' where the chat is just friendly chat about all sorts and the other could be 'the factual daily' where you post about more practical type stuff?
I think the problem is more to do with the type of people that frequent the various boards tbh.
I know I much prefer to post anything I need to mull over about my lot on the Family board even although it isn't financially related and technically should be in the Arms. The reason for this is simply because I know I will get many more answers from more like minded people there. There's nothing wrong with the Arms lot but the crowd that frequent there do tend to be a bit more light and although I'd get some helpful replies, I'd also get loads of jokey, silly posts which would take the thread OT. Also there are many people whose opinions I would welcome, just don't tend to visit the Arms or DT so it makes sense to post where the relevant majority are.
I think it's the same with OS. The people here are like minded and seem to have more in common than perhaps they might do with the peeps on other boards so it's only natural to want to share things with people you feel are similar to you.
You'll never please everyone but it's always nice to try to.Well done for being willing to consider all POV. :T

I must be one of the guiltiest people on that thread for not posting anything OS
I might stop posting because I don't actually have that much to contribute - I don't have a BM, DW or kids for that matter. I work 50+ hours a week, so whilst I do cook and bake from scratch it is only at the weekend really. I don't have time to read/post in the week, and I don't usually do anything anyway so mostly only post at weekends.
However, I don't want to stop posting. I like the mix of chat and OS tips - the thread is evolving as some people leave and some people join. I do *try* and put OS things in my post, even if it is just putting the washing out (I think that counts as I don't have a dryer!)
I do not think it is cliquey - most new posters actually get a special mention and a wave now, which is more than most people. I do not reply to every single poster - in fact, I don't reply to most people because I don't have anything to say. I don't thank everyone - I only thank who people who have a)made me laugh b)given me useful information c)have an opinion which I agree with d)responded to something I said
MagentaSue - I talk to a lot of real people but unfortunately none of the real people in my life care about OS things, so I don't talk to them about baking, cooking, cleaning etc. Yes, I know I need a new group of friends
What would the perfect post look like?
What would Smokey have done without the Daily 'chat'?We must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret and disappointment0 -
I always thought it was gossip...sorry - that's why I never post. I took by the introduction that it meant Old Style Gossip - ie over the fence type of nattering - rather than all ABOUT Old Style. If some OS tips are thrown in then great, but it's certainly doesn't seem to be the mainstay of the thread.0

I like the fact the the thread includes details of different people's lives, I find it sort of inspiring that OS stuff can be fitting into almost anyone's life. I enjoy hearing that everyone else has to do all the washing and drying, and I like the cooking ideas and tips and shopping info.
Perhaps there is sometimes too much chat, sorry I shall try to stop! But it is such a friendly welcoming thread, and offers so much support to people trying to do things in an OS way that it would be a shame if this put people off posting.
There seem to be quite a lot of other threads for posting recipes, shopping info and all sorts of other OS stuff now, so sometimes it's hard knowing what should be where! I though the daily thread was for a bit of chat and to let people know what sort of OS things we were all doing, perhaps we have tilted towards the chat too much?
As others have said it would be a shame if the thread was moved to another board, as here it does attract like minded people, and whilst there are many people in my life, as someone else said not many of them are very interested in hearing about my cooking and cleaning!
Good luck with this Penpin and Pink, perhaps we just need to be reminded to chat less, but I'd hate just to see lists of OS jobs or even just recipes.GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -
I stopped posting for a while, when this topic came up before, but I like the OS daily as it is, and as it says in the opener, it's an over the fence type chat, and that wont always include strictly OS.
There are other places on the board to find recipes. You also find recipes in the daily, along with other sorts of info.
I find I mix my posts with a bit of OS and a bit of chat. If it was just full of washing out, BM, WM, SC on, I wouldn't post as it would sound boring - I would find my posts boring, because it would be a similar thing each day.
If that is the way the thread goes, I will post elsewhere. I do regular post in the BM thread anyway, but have always found the OS daily a welcoming thread, and would be sad to see it change,

It reminds me of those corners at playgroups where established mums would congregate while their children wandered aimlessly or caused havoc. I know this sounds harsh but, for me, it's the worst part of the board and belongs on the Arms board. I'll get me coat ...
I couldn't of put it better myself.
I posted on the OS daily for a short while when i first joined up but it's quite a tight clique to get into and i would have been as well talking to myself.
My suggestion would be to start up another thread so we can all ask OS questions and chat about OS things. The OS weightloss thread seem to have it right. Mainly on topic with a tiny bit of 'life' thrown in.
The current OS daily chat thread could be called just that. The people who post there should still be able to do so, after all this website is for everyone.
Maybe we could have the OS ARMS for all the OS chit chat?

I have never posted on the daily thread but I read it almost every day. I feel like I know all the posters on there and I enjoy reading about their lives. Maybe that is just the nosy streak in me!!
Some days it does get a bit long but then I may just skim read it. I do find handy tips in there, recipes and good ideas.
Let's be honest we can't all be doing OS things all day every day can we?
I also like the fact that if someone has a problem - illness, lack of money, lazy OH's, messy kids etc - other posters give good advice or send hugs.
I would hate to see the daily go or be moved to another board. To move it to the Arms would be awful. Most of the threads on there just end up full of jokey comments and, in my opinion, it is a very cliquey (sp) board, much more so than OSThe world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0 -
I have wandered into that thread a couple of times and then wandered back out again.
It is a chat thread nothing more.
It just takes up valuable thread space on an important and useful board.
I don't think it belongs in here, can't it be moved to the ' The Money Savers Arms' with the other pointless threads.
I mean I think it's fab that bettymilkbottlelids has managed to put out her washing today and that she averted a near disaster when seagull two miles away nearly headed in her direction and pooed on her dear sons favourite pair of batman pyjamas that she got from the catalogue (he has nightmares if he wears a different pair).
I mean seriously, well done you, but I don't think we should pretend it is other than what is. A chat thread.*Make every day Caturday*0 -

I dont post on the daily everyday. But i do read it. I love the mix of old style and chitchat. Just as to what everyone is getting up too in their daily 'OS' lives. OS is such a friendly board, it does feel like home.
Yesterday i was having such a down day,,, Yes i could of posted on a support thread ( not sure where to find that tho) But i would of been asking for support of total strangers, not people who i feel 'virtually' attatched too. Without the support i had personally yesterday, i am sure i would of cracked.
I always believed that the daily was about what we were doing daily ?? Sometimes we would be doing more OS stuff than others ? I know i have my good days where i am strict old style and others where i am not so good
Maybe strict OS stuff could be posted first and then chitchat/daily goings on could be in a different colour or different paragraph ? Just a thought
Personally it would be a shame to loose the expertise of the old stylers but if its a daily over the garden fence type thread. Surely that would include what Mrs.. ?? from number 32 had been up to with Mr ..?? from the other end of the street. Or what my kids told me about Mrs..?? when they came back from playing with their children. Or even that little ?? ?? has another bout of headlice because her dad is always at the pub and her mum cant cope with all 12 children..... On talking to my Gran these things seemed to be the most talked about topics over the garden fencefurrypig says:my name is Choccy and I am addicted to nose free stamps as I want to save them all and give them noses!!!:rotfl:
About me. Im Choccy or Chocolate orange depending on where i am.Yes occasionally i am a total looon who spends too long online, but no where near as much £ as her spendy elves do ..:D0
