  • Thanks Mummysaver;) My washing machine will be repaired by the end of the week (fingers crossed) not sure I want another appliance although I can see the advantages of a spin dryer or a mangle.

OH reckons it's worth considering having two washing machines! We have an empty space next to our current machine. Maybe it isn't such an extreme idea- after all it wouldn't use any more water or power as I wouldn't do any more washing than I do now. When one machine dies I'll have back up:think: We do seem to get through them fast, this one was bought 4 years ago.

It's not really in the spirit of living simply though is it:o ?

Do you normally handwash Troo? Have you any tips for me particularly re getting the water out of the washing? I'm washing for 5 people.
Oh no, I hate rinsing and wringing  But if you wear rubber gloves, you can wring more water out than if you dont.

I cheat I'm afraid :o I use the machine to rinse and spin, and towels and master troo's work jeans still get a machine wash. Though when the machine packs up, I'm thinking of just getting a spinner.

    Morning all,

Have read PP's post and agree that there is a lot of chat but surely that's Old Style. Neighbours over the fence IYSWIM. Hope we don't loose this, after all I doubt the Knit your Square thread would have been so sucessfull if it hadn't been for chat on here. I have had so much suport on here and at times has helped me get through the day.
BM on and bedding changed. Sheets out on the line and will iron the top half when the're dry, I only iron the top as I save on electric and no-one sees the bottom half anyway. Well that's my excuse.

Must make another apple cake, had visitors over the w/end and the last one vanished. Plan to make some burgers out of YS frying steak for dinner.

SQUIGGLY, I have offerd to do that but DB2 sais he will choose the right moment and as he is a 2.5hr drive away I wouldn't get there in time, think he is making excuses really.

((((((((((((((((( Hugs to all in need )))))))))))))))))

Thriftlady - when my old machine died the repair man told me that if I got 5 years out of a new one I'd be lucky! I'd had the old one for almost 20 years, so it gave pretty good service. He told me that the cheaper and more simple the machine the less there was to go wrong, pretty obvious I guess, and advice I followed as really I only use a couple of programmes so didn't need an all singing all dancing model!

Still got the courgettes I got cheap last week waiting in the fridge, need to do something with them, but not a whole lot of space in the freezers, will have to cook them down I think - I can still add them to sauces then.

Then I'm off to see my friend and sort out this row, well I will if I'm allowed in, I'm not used to fighting with people, well other than assorted officials! It's horrible and I just can't get rid of the feeling of gloom hanging over me.

    edit:

for anyone who still wants energy monitors, Lidl had plenty left yesterday in my local one. Swedes are also really cheap, 34p I think, I love swede! Icing sugar is cheap in there too, 49p!

Oh, and chicken stock cubes, the value ones, are 9p a pack in Mr T's - though the tinned toms have gone up to 26p, eek!

Really no need to be sarcastic Kaat Lady. Beth made a valid point in the other thread and everyone should say what they feel without getting smart ar$se comments thrown at them.

I forgot to say the apple cake I made this morning was from a recipe on here. It's called Aunt Sally's. I will look for whoever it was later.:A It was lovely so I highly recommend it.
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)

  • Hi everyone. It's been a beautiful morning here and I'm trying to make the most of it. I've been an occasional visitor to OS for a while and really appreciate all the help, support and tips that have been so readily available. It's been baby steps for me and I need to take a lot more of those to have a more OS lifestyle and thought that we could all inspire each other by posting a quick note/a one-liner about what small os thing(s) you have done or are going to do today. What do you think? (Got the idea from the DFW board so not an original idea but one that might be useful to other OS wanabees like myself.)

OK here goes: later today I'll be making some banana bread with some bananas that will otherwise get thrown out. I got the recipe from the MSE OS book.

What small OS thing are you going to do today? Or have done already?

Personally I like this thread as it is. If someone tried to stop me posting what I have done fior the last 2 years or so, I would not bother. I think people rely on the daily for ideas, company, sharing etc.

Anywa back to money saving. I just managed to get 2 trailer load of logs free, so quite happy with that. Off to work now. Cheers
