    Afternoon all!

Am I allowed to join a Flylady thread, being a man and all?

I've *finally* finished decorating and settling in to my first apartment and it was getting to look a bit shabby. One night earlier this I found the Flylady website and thought it might give me a bit of a boost to get the place looking a bit more like when I first moved in... and now I've found a thread about it on MSE!

Off to clean the bathroom floor now - and, it being day three of "Beginners Steps" will be putting a post-it on my bathroom mirror :j

:hello: LilySue, Jue and Cardiff (and any newbies i've missed - have skipped a load as a bit behind)

all men are welcome Cardiff (just turn a blind eye/ear if we're cussing you out as a general breed) - BTW tried the official flylady route myself but spent most of the day with a shiny sink, loads of emails and a house that was a tip! :D

First look in this week but I'm on stupid shifts this weeks (i'm pulling in a 16.5 hour one today - my choice but i'm ker-nacked)

    Still to do:-
Need to go to SW tomorrow morning if I don't sleep through alarm
    Collect parcel from delivery office
    Book from library

On plus side, cause I've been at work, I've not been home to mess it up:D :D

Have a big 'un at the pub for me mistress pigpen

Just about caught up with today's thread.

:hello: to all newbies! - don't ask me to remember names - I'm useless!

Emily - hope your DH has gone on alright in hospital.

I've done nothing so far today so I need to make a start - anyone fancy a HHC 6.15 - 6.30?

Help please ladies - we have a DS who may have a learning disorder (not entirely sure what but possibly dyslexia and ?) and we're at the start of the process. Meeting at school re IEP tomorrow, and first ed asst appt in early November. He is young still (yr 1) but very aware he is different though we all try to treat him as any other small boy.

Any words of wisdom? Thankfully this has been noticed quickly and the school are being very supportive. But the whole thing is a bit scary. I'm also a bit stumped over how much to say to DS - he knows a special teacher is going to help his teacher and he's OK with that, does he need to know more yet?

    Moam

    Hi Moam

    Is this his first IEP?

Maybe just explain to him that he'll probably be asked to do some reading and look at some pictures with the special teacher. The special teacher will also do some of his work with him not necessarily on his own - and most of it probably not - to make sure him and his friends understand what they've got to do.

I'm sure pigpen and lil-me will put it better than me!

At this stage, if he's being put on School Action then he will get a limited amount of support in class. If they're having a specialist dyslexia assessor in or the SENCO is doing it then it may go further earlier. The first thing that should be checked before a dyslexia assessment is if his eyesight and hearing have been checked. If that's been done and they're doing the assessment it's just a case of a bit of reading (don't worry if he can't do this because he's still very young), looking at pictures, memory games and that sort of thing.

Sorry if that doesn't make much sense - if I can help with anything PM me.

Mum on a mission - first thing, there could be much worse things for him to have, take a deep breath and try to relax a little. Great that school have noticed so early, could just need a little help for now then end up not needing much support later in life. I am not saying what is wrong as such isn't serious, but a large number of kids flagged in early years don't need huge input later from specialist services. Your DS, well you know him best, for most little ones 'someone to help you a bit' is fine, they don't really care what this person is there for as long as they know that, they worry much less than we do thankfully. If this teacher will do specific things with him which are out of the ordinary ask school to explain that to him. With his IEP make sure they have achievable targets set out, a useless IEP will have 'will be able to count better' as an aim, a better one would have 'will be able to count to 10 without support/prompting on 5 occasions' sorry crap example but you see what I am getting at? You need to see his progress or lack of so you need achievable targets.Your local parent partnership office ***these are based within every local authority and can be found via http://www.parentpartnership.org.uk/ *** may be able to offer advice as to what to expect in school and be able to send someone with you to any reviews etc if you need support. Have they mentioned CAF to you as an assessment process for him? I would assume they would be using this to get him the services he needs initially and if so he'll be allocated (if done properly) a lead professional from his team to see he's getting the services he needs.

juliejim bit late for me to join, considering you're doing half a HHC you cheat! :rotfl: I am sure you were meaning 6.45pm
Welcome Cardiffmatch (Tom), oh, another blue one :D like LG says if we 'go off on one' just ignore it...hehe...we do have other male flying people just they tend to hide more than they show their faces...Jue welcome to you aswell
emily hope your DH is ok
    Summermoon ((hugs))
g&b how nice of the man to help you :D what a bummer of a thing to happen however.
hex!!!! Where's my chocolate fingers? ? :( you could have at least saved one!
hollyh now that's a bizarre thing for your DD to come out with....
:rotfl: @ pigpen turning all fluffy, we know you're just a kicking mule really ;) (PS to those who don't know she just pretends to be mean and is a big soft puddy cat really ;) )

Took the boys for hair cuts, their behaviour generally was ridiculous but when 'in the chair' they behaved. Now I itch like crazy because DS2 decided he wanted a cuddle and covered me in hair bits.

Oh bum, DPs not going to work after all I don't think, I was planning on a peaceful evening (he was supposed to be doing it as going to york tomorrow) but looks like I will have to put up with him. Never mind....

    This evening I need to

    Bath the boys
Tidy bathroom while they are in the bath
    Clean toilet and sink
    Remove bathroom rubbish
    Clean bathroom floor
    Have a shower
    Clean the bath/tiles
Do some budget work inc working out what my GC spend should be because I have slipped back out of that again
    Make packed lunches
    Fill dishwasher
    Sort uniforms for tomorrow
Put some more of laundry hill away
Get some more of mount washmore in the washer then drier/on airers
One day I might be more organised...........
    GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb
