My next appointment is coming up, i've been asking for a lap & dye for years but i'm hoping they will listen to me this time. Even so the wait is currently 6 months
Oh hun I didn't realise it was a long-term prob. It can sometimes be so difficult to get GP's & other 'medical professionals' to take us seriously and believe that we might actually know what is going on with our bodies - it is so frustrating isn't it?! Hope that you can get your lap & dye this time. Is it poss to get it done privately? I know that you used to not be able to pay for individual procedures and still stay on the NHS program, but I think that rule may have been relaxed from what I have read on other websites (we don't get any NHS help unfortunately, so I don't know firsthand). Good luck with your next appt anyway. The best advice you can give your children: "Take responsibility for your own actions...and always Read the Small Print!"

Thanks for all your advice myaccount, and hope that you get some answers soon, one way or another, Sarah.
I've just finished reading a book called "Get pregnant faster" by Marilyn Glenville, who runs a fertility clinic near Cambridge I think, but who is also big on promoting natural fertility as much as possible. It was a very interesting read (much better than TCOYF I thought as it was only about trying to conceive, not trying not to!) She had a big section on diet, one on vitamins and supplements, one on lifestyle factors/environmental toxins, one on male and female problems and one on how often, when and in what positions to try depending on your own particular circumstances, which I found quite interesting, together with advice about how to maximise the chances of success of IVF and IUI. Has anyone else read this, or tried any of her suggestions?
Also, and this is a TMI question, but AF has had a very short and light appearance this month. She showed her first signs (DBS) on Monday at lunchtime, and was completely gone by teatime last night (Wednesday). In between, it was only the very lightest flow. Ever the optimist, I have of course treated myself to another BFN this morning, but I am confused as to why it should be like this when I know I definitely ovulated this month and my endometrium was normal thickness then. Anyone had this happen to them, or know whether its making things even more difficult for next month? I didn't start taking any supplements until after the flow had stopped so there's no change from that point of view.0 -

Hi Nicki.
My periods in the last 2 years or so have been different every month. One month I can be on for 5 days, very heavy and in lots of pain. The next month can be 2 days and no pain at all. Another month I get no DBS (which is common for me) just full flow without the DBS to warn me.
Personally it doesn't worry me. I have mentioned it to my GP and fertility consultant and they didn't seem bothered about it either.
Edited to add ~ Also my cycle length varies from month to month but as I am using the clearblue monitor I know I am oving. Maybe I'm just odd
But as always if you are worried call your GP for advice.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -
FairyElephant, I was just wondering how thing are going - I start my stimming injections tonight,oh what joy !! I've then got a scan on Tuesday to see how things are going.

Hi everyone,
As I found out today that cycle number 12 of our ttc has resulted in a bfn, I think it's time I posted in here, I'm afraid.
DH and I have been discussing making an appointment to see the doc, and I'm going to book a smear test, but I have no idea where we go from here, so some advice would be much appreciated.
My history:
I was on Depo for 4 years, came off it Jan 2007, started ttc Jan 2008, and had a chem pg/early mc in October (we think - I hadn't done a test but got af a day late, very heavy, constant bleeding with huge clots, and had had pg symptoms - the doc I saw messed up and sent a letter - to the wrong dept - requesting a referral for a scan, instead of sending me immediately(!), so he couldn't confirm it, but said it was likely a chem pg/early mc).
DH and I have been more or less teetotal for a few months, and are taking vitamin supplements (multivits incl. zinc for him, pg vits with folic acid for me). We are trying to eat well, and reduce our stress levels, despite this year being quite difficult for us for various reasons.
I get positives on OPKs, and my luteal phase seems to be fine at 13/14 days.
We tried the SMEP this last cycle (with expectorant cough syrup), and were sure it had worked, but no luck this time, I'm afraid.
Should I just tell the doctor all of this and ask what he can do to help us? Is there anything else I/we need to know/ask?
Thanks for your help!

When I first went to the GP I went alone after 6 months of trying as I knew I would have problems (had serious period problems from beginning) and told him been trying for a year to speed up referral.
He then sent me for blood tests to try to ascertain if I was ovulating, which was negative so referred me straight off.
Mean while OH had to go for sperm count test, I had more blood tests and he put me on clomid, plus I had to go to well woman clinic for check up. My hospital appt. came through within a few months and more monthly blood tests and more medication (after clomid came tamoxifin and cyclo???????). Plus I was booked in for a laparoscopy to check tubes. I never managed to get a lapo as every appointment clashed with my periods which were very irregular even on medication.
Finally started on injections and had a scan which found a cyst on one ovary. After the first cycle of injections the cyst disappeared. I injected for 6 months in total (5 months on metrodine and 1 month on perganol - cheaper older drug but they had lost 1/2 their funding so cheaper drugs used to treat all woman rather than expensive drug and 1/2 the women). The cheaper drug worked first month on me as I didn't react at all to metrodine. I was booked in for a lapo, which I could have gone to as injecting meant regular bleeds but instinct made me ring up and cancel. Glad I did as two days after arranged op day I had a positive test.
You will feel better once you set the wheels in motion as you are doing something positive aside from supplements and diet changes.
I gave up smoking (never to return) and drank in strict moderation. However the night DD was concieved followed a blow out after a night out with friends where I drank too much barcardi & red wine. Being relaxed obviously helped (as well as the pillow under the bottom for 1/2 an hour to keep it in - TMI:o )~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

Fairy elephant - i am so frustrated. I actually get quite worked up about it because i've had pelvic pain for 5 yrs and weird bleeding for 2, so the more time passes i can't help but dread something terrible is going on. By the duration and severity of my symptoms it wouldn't suprise me if im completely beyond having kids by the time they finally listen to me  I've heard from 4 sources now that a lap&dye is roughly £2500 + £150 for each consultation. I feel that we should be able to get all of our investigations done on the NHS and then we'll go private for our treatment as we don't have much time (or money!). We're in Scotland so im not sure if they new rule applies to us? If they don't approve the L&D this time i think i will turn completely nuts on them  I had asked the GP to write in support of me but they say i can deal with it myself. After refusing in the past i decided i wanted to try Clomid last cycle but the GP refuses to prescribe. Don't suppose anyone has some spare? LOL
Nicki - my AF is weird every month... I think my body likes to suprise me :rotfl: The GYN don't think its a problem, but then given my experiences i would say they are pretty lazy/incompetent. Maybe get a quantitative hCH from the Dr?
I've recently read similar sounding books from Marina Nicholas and Elizabeth Swire Falker. I enjoyed them because both women have dealt with infertility themselves; one conceived on 6th cycle IVF and the other happily adopted. I'll have a look for that one too in the library.
Annie - Sorry you're on cycle 13. I've heard that Depo can take a long time to get out of your system and leave you fertile again. Perhaps you are just one of the (lucky or unlucky - im unsure which) % of couples who have no problems but just take a little longer to conceive? Definitely worth a trip to the GP though. Just explain you both have a healthy lifestyle and have had 12 failed but well timed cycles TTC. First stop is CD 3 and CD 21 blood tests for yourself and a semen analysis for DH. See what happens with those and take it from there.
The neighbours have been blaring the TV since 3am so im very cranky at the mo, just blaming it on the fact all my 10miu tests are BFN and i can feel AF coming0 -

Hiya :hello: !
Well, what a week! As well as dealing with the symptoms of the meds (wicked headaches, tears & tiredness to the point of exhaustion), we had DH's 17yo son 'dumped' on us with an hour's notice as his step-dad had thrown him out:mad: ! Much stress ensued as we had no idea there were any probs brewing and couldn't get any communication from the Ex-W and step-dad..... Just what I needed for my blood-pressure:rolleyes: !
Anyhow, finally got that mess sorted out (for now at least), and went for my 8-day stimming scan today....
4 follies at 13mm and 1 at 14mm, as well as a couple of smaller ones coming along (something like 8 & 9 mm each). So another 3 days of stimming and re-scan on Monday. They need to be at least 17mm before we can trigger OV. So if that happens Monday then it'll be EC on Weds and ET on Fri or Sat.
As expected my BP was up again, despite the meds to bring it down - not really surprising given the week I have had! So I have orders to rest & relax at the weekend - not really something I am good at, but am planning on writing the Xmas cards and sure I can find some more sedentary jobs to do!
Hope everyone has a good weekend,
Hugs,

It sounds like everyone here is having a right old time of it at present! I hope everyone's trials and tribulations sort themselves out in time for Christmas. Huge contratulations to Triggles - it's about time we had some more BFPs on this thread!
CD15 for me, and much as I'm hoping for a little miracle this month, i'm in two minds as my SIL is getting married in Ireland 9 months from now. How inconsiderate of her. I keep seeing gorgeous dresses, but am so hoping that I'll have a bump by then that I refuse to even try them on. Mind you, I left buying my wedding dress until 3 months before in the vain hope that I might need to cover a bump and that didn't work. Maybe I should blow the budget on a killer dress just to tempt fate!!
Myaccount - I had another reflexology session last night and although no 'miracles' have happened yet, I think it has helped me to relax more on an emotional level. If nothing else, I'm hoping that plays a big part in us attaining our journey's goal.
Hugs and baby dust all round xx0 -

We've kept trying stuff to 'tempt fate' - no success yet....but we are leaving on 29th Dec for a week's cruise up the Nile....and I am hopefully due for ET on on 12th, so if all goes well will be testing on 26th:eek: (mind you - no prizes for guessing that I'm bound to give in and test early on Xmas eve.......I have NO willpower!).The best advice you can give your children: "Take responsibility for your own actions...and always Read the Small Print!"
