poor you AF. If it makes you feel any better I'm having one of those days just being at home and have no reason to be angry/upset/tearful, but am teetering on the precarious edge of tears and have been for about 16 hours now :D

    Hi all,

I need some advice,,, I have just been told to apply for a (my) permanant position :j :D at a company I have been contracted @ for almost 2 years, they dont know yet about bub, should I tell them first once I have the job. If i dont get the job it would ONLY be because of bub and they woulnd't do that for the obvious legal reasons, but still a little cautious in case they do and I have to go though proceudres for discrimitation etc... I think I will tell them before hand but just want peeps opinions on what y'all would do?

ems, a few questions i would think about...

Do you really want the job?
    How far on are you?
would you definately go back to work after some maternity leave?
Do you want to take min/max maternity leave?

I don't see anything wrong with going for the job, although I do understand your dilemma. I had to give up my contract before starting it due to being pg and it was a very hard decision and only one which I (along with DH) could make.

    good luck sweetie x

  • ems - remind me how far gone you are?

I think it very much depends on your relationship with your boss and with the company. Is it a big company?

How were you told? Do you have anything in writing?

Ultimately, if you have a good relationship with them and they want you then telling them shouldn't make any difference (it sometimes makes employers much more careful about what they do ;) )

Mmm - reading that through chocolate teapot springs to mind!!!

    Thank you r.mac
I do really want the job - being a permamnet one helps!!
    I am 14 weeks tomorrow
Probably not, unless £££ forced me to
If I did go back would depend entirely on £££ and when i needed it, but def would stay off as long as possible anyways.

    dilemas dilemas...

    It's just getting worse.

How many urgent things can one person do????? Yes, i'm good at my job and as much as i want to be, i'm not flipping superwoman!!!!

I have already cancelled an appointment at the bank because i couldn't take a lunch hour yesterday and i will NOT be having one today, nor did i have any last week.

i have been told to watch my hours becuase i am doing toooooo many, but that doesn't stop the work needing to be done.

and i have a pile of billing work building up too

    SORRY, RANT OVER

To be honest, if you are 14 wks along, and you took mat leave at say 36wks, that only leaves you 22 wks of work. If you aren't planning on returning after your maternity leave runs out then I wouldn't go for the job and just explain why to your work.

If I've read your reply wrong and you just mean that you would want to take max mat leave then go back, then I don't see it being a problem. How would changing from being a contractor to a permanent staff member effect your mat leave entitlement??? something to think about.

If, like MFD says, you have a good relationship with the company (sounds like you do), then I would be upfront and honest about the pg. I know that if I was the employer I would appreciate you being upfront, but I am aware not everyone is as nice as me :D

    ========

    :hello:
Just thought I would say hello and add myself to the list for 27th June - (I know it's a bit early yet, but I'm just too excited!)

I am sure as my pregnancy progresses you will all get fed up with me asking questions as this is my first. And, although we have been ttc for a year, now that I am actually pregnant - I have realised I don't know the first thing about pregancy or babies!:rotfl: I have bought lots of mags and registered with loads of baby websites etc. but I know you lovely ladies (and gents) will be with me all the way.
