its all so awful in the news at the moment, all we hear about is social services failing and kids being abused and killed :(
I want to hear about all the kids that they did manage to help to at least balance the veiw

Well again, DH and his siblings were removed from their mother for a number of reasons, but I believe his sisters, although not quite baby P standards, they could of easily become Shannon Matthews....

The media are often biased and ill informed, very quick to jump on the failings of certain agencies but not the cases that are solved...
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

24 weeks, first time mum to be, no brother/sisters, friends haven’t started families, so really have no experience of babies!

Just wondering if anyone could help with bottle feeding question. I know the advice is to make every feed up from fresh. That’s ok during the day but not practical at night.
I know you can use the cartons of milk at night as alternative, but I’m wondering about the bottles.
I don’t want to keep running the steriliser and then taking 1 bottle out at a time and re-starting it.
So if steriliser finished at 10 at night, and I take out a bottle for feed then, can I also just take out another bottle, screw lid on and leave it empty until night feed, then fill with milk from carton?
    Is the bottle still sterilised?

Sorry if this doesn’t make sense but the guidelines don’t say how you cope with a child who’s hungry and needs feeding straight away if you are using bottle feeds!

    Any help appreciated!

I know krystal, My mum's friend who she met on her NNEB course, ended up working for ss and they had a little girl snatched by her mother from one of the nurseries she manages, the media made a big fuss and claimed allsorts about the security there but failed to mention that the mother had turned up in disguise with fake ID to get in close enough to then force her way in attacking staff. and also made out that the little girl was in imminent danger which she wasn't

anyway I'll try to lighten the mood again, how are you feeling? has the tummy bug cleared?

I made up feeds in advance (tut tut naughty me) and if I end up formula feeding again I will again. I asked my HV about it and she said as long as the bottles are sterile and milk made up straight away then put straight into fridge and used within 24hrs its fine (I also warmed them in a microwave *slaps wrist again*) but I wouldn't suggest warming in the micro if its a small bottle (less than half full as hot spots tend to be worse for some reason ) as far as I understand it what you have described would be fine as thats what I sometimes did if I was out n about HTH! PM me if you like I'll help as much as I can :D

I'm making good progress.. Have sorted out all the junk which was covering nearly all of both sofas, hoovered the lounge and hall and ordered my sister's Christmas card half an hour ago after I saw a moonpig advert which said if I ordered before 2pm I'd get it tomorrow (handy, as she's coming on Saturday!).

I'm starving.. craving fishcake and chips! :(

SIL just arrived - ha, how's that for timing!

My notes from antenatal classes and pg books say that once the bottles are sterilised, they can be filled with cool boiled water and kept in the fridge until needed for a max of 24hours. I think (someone can confirm this) that you add the formula when you take it out of the fridge and then heat to required temperature.

so you wouldn't have to run the steraliser more than once or twice a day for bottles. You would still have to factor in the heating the bottle from the fridge times as well. perhaps someone can offer more advice on that.

It may be an idea to have a couple of cartons of milk always on standby for the first wee while to save your sanity if you are worried about it. If you use a carton the bottle must still be steralised.

Bertha, did you know that the cartons of ready made milk are recommended for babies under 8 weeks old as they are sterile and powder is not? Not entirely sure about the bottle staying sterilised but you can buy bottles from mothercare that can be sterilised 1 at a time in the microwave...

Thanks Sami, I'm feeling loads better today, tummy bug appears to of gone... Got halfway through stripping the bed off and remaking it with new bedding (a surprise for DH, it's got chinese script on which I'm not keen on but he loves) when the phone rang, then I had to come downstairs to read an email down the phone and now I seem to be stuck on MSE again lol...

  • Hi Bertha! You seriously need to get in with the chit chat and up that post count...believe me it is easy once you get started (when did I go over post 2k  )

Krystal and Sami - I have no problem with poo and sick etc I was brought up with it! It's just silly behaviour that I don't entertain (by silly I mean tantrummy type stuff). I remember having words with my brother because I told my nephew 'no' when he started squealing because he couldn't get what he wanted (at about 18 months) - they didn't say no to him, they let him squeal  . They now live by the house of tiny tearaways (or whatever is fashionable these days) parenting model (to the letter!!!) - which they wouldn't need had they not spent the first 2 years of his life letting him have the run of the house.

I guess you would call me strict  although the girls here are convinced I won't be the same with my own.

Have I dug myself a hole there...:o . If I have you know I don't mean to offend.

This advice makes me laugh as doing it that way means that the powder doesn't get heated up enough to sterilise it (it needs to be over 70 deg C to be sterile) I did do it that way for a bit but in the end said sod it :rotfl:
I always kept about 4 cartons in the cupboard as they like to trick you sometimes and suddenly get hungry when you least expect it! (they're whiley those baby things ;))
