It wasn't that bad AF - just a kind of tighten and ooch kind of pain IYSWIM - not an AARRRGGGHHH kind of pain :rotfl:

Today (and every day) I am thankful for the luvverley ladies on the pregnancy thread :D :A

i have some pains at times where i have wondered if they were BH, but they haven't really taken my breath away, so i wouldn't have thought they were BH.

as i am typing this i am sure bubs is playing 'lets spin for fun and keep kicking mum in the same spot' :rotfl:

ooh r.mac a quick look on ebay and they have BNIB pools for around £70 that £30 off surely hubby will like that! I can't remember if you've got other bubs/planning more, would you be re using for a next time? that way it'll work out half the price with some magic logic ;)

oh dear, does that mean i have this to look forward to in a few weeks time or does not everyone get BH???

how come our bodies are equipped to know what to do when we get pregnant but our brains aren't able to tell us all the answers???

    I haven't had any BH yet ...

I also think you need to learn to listen to your body and trust it to tell you when there's a problem. Cavewomen never had midwives or pregnancy forums to ask and the human race still grew...

R.mac - don't your maternity unit have BPs available for home use? I'm really beginning to reealise what a fab maternity team we have at RAH!

Contractions (or surges/waves to use hypnobirthing terminology;) ) are the muscle that forms your uterus tightening to push Bean down and pull cervix back. Cervix end actually loosens (horizontal bands of muscle fibres) while the top contracts (vertical bands of muscle fibres).

Hypnobirthing philosophy is based around the idea that fear causes your body to go into fight/flight mode thus depriving areas of the body not requied for survival from blood flow and causing them to tense up.

The belief is that medicine (and religion to an extent) has created fear of birthing in modern women over time by demonising childbirth as a curse rather than a blessing and focussing too much on what can go wrong before explaining how it actually works.

They teach you the physiological aspects of birthing (in a more helpful manner than my other ante natal class I have to say) to help you understand the process your body is going through so you can accept it is a natural phenomenon - none of your other muscles hurt when they perform their function (doea it hurt when you flex your arm or walk?) so why should the uterus?

You then get taught a form of self-hypnosis to help you manage your contractions and have a non-traumatic natural birth experience. That's not to say that they advocate no intervention if you are at risk or if circumstances require. Watching the videos of women labouring and giving birth without the screaming, sweating and panting so often televised went a long way to alleviating my fears!

Oh, i like the sound of all that :T :T :T

I hope this is what the book and CD will teach me (i dont want to go to classes).

It's the screaming, i dont want people to hear me. i know that may sound like a silly thing to some but its a big fear of mine

AF - I haven't experienced any braxton Hicks yet and I'm almost 33wks - some people never feel them. Perhaps you'll be one of those ;)

birth pools Yes, I had factored in the resale on ebay. The £100 price I've seen includes the pool and the kit, so is the cheapest package I can find - even by looking on ebay (plus I know I'm being funny, but would rather get it from a big company if you know what I mean!)

sami - this is our first and I'm honestly not sure if we'll have anymore. I'm not a fan of being pg (although no probs, very 'normal' etc, just not my bag really) and we'll certainly wait a while, so not factoring using it a second time!

    thanks everyone :D

If its the same book I've got by Marie Mongan its really good. I have to admit i giggled a bit when I first put the CD on and couldn't listen to it all but am planning on getting over that at the weekend:o

I think the class would help if only to demonstrate breathing techniques and the power of the mind, but I'm one of a few very lucky individuals - I think RAH is the only hospital in Scotland that does the course for free, otherwise it would cost around £300 and I would've just used the books

The births we watched the woman was pretty much silent! except between contractions when she chatted quite happily with her partner

Oh goody now I can compare it to something... and something I am going through every day still... super! :) So with luck labour will be no worse than what I am going through now :) Well... I can hope can't I??? ;)
I always think its annoying that no matter how much your stomach muscles seem to be worked with all the chuckin up you don't end up with a six pack - how unfair!
Ps a contraction will prob feel like nothing to you ;)

The one i have ordered is buy her and its the orange cover with the baby's face. The blue cover one with the woman on it doesn't seem to come with a CD

Wow you are lucky to get the classes for free. I think they are around the £200 - £300 mark in my area as well.

I am even just hoping to pick up some relaxation techniques to help me if nothing else.
  • Sami & MrsT - Thanks for the advice, as I said hopefully I'll get everything at the scan appointment. If not I'll ask!

Another quick question my mum was rushed into hospital last night as she couldn't breath. She's been sick and had bad tummy all night and all day today, they've got her now on a morphine (sp?) drip as she's in so much pain. She's in a barrier room and I did go last night when she was rushed in but she told the nurse to make me go home as I was pregnant.

Do you think it will be ok for me to go and she her or am I best keeping away? Any advice would be fab as I really want to go and see her.
You laugh because I'm different - I laugh because you're all the same

If she's still in a barrier room i'd stay away, it sounds like ur mum is thinking of you first :A it could be very dangerous to you/bubs if you catch something x
