I was given a leaflet made by our PCT called your birth choices at my booking in app at 7wks its was mostly focused on having a homebirth, I think they're trying to keep us out of hosp coz its more costly ;)

Our hospital doesn't like home births because its extra man power... You have to have a minimum of 2 midwives at a homebirth whereas in hospital 1 midwife can look after up to 3 labouring women....
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

  • our midwifes are all for homebirths and on number three now so i wouldnt mind but hubby is against it just incase there are complications, id much rather be at home doing my own thing than in hospital
now proud mum to 3 handsome boys :j latest one born 10/10/11:j

here it is 1 midwife per labouring woman but there has to ba at least 2 when baby is being delivered at home there is one to begin with and she calls for back up when she sees fit. im hoping that even 1 makes it on time as i went so quick the last time that i worried that they wont be here and ill have to do it alone:eek: but saying that if i have the [STRIKE]equiptment[/STRIKE]gas and air i wont be caring too much lol

I kno what you mean caz, I have never heard that they leave you some gas before hand, I might ask if they do that here, I really don't want a HB but was warned last time that nxt bub could come too quick to get to hosp so gas would deff help me manage to get there

ETA: has anyone else heard of the "latest trend" for freebirthing - doing it completely without any medical peeps

I'm nuts... I'm going to try and make it through this one with no gas and air... A few warm baths and (if I end up in hospital) the birthing pool would get me through it I recon... The gas and air had no effect on me last time and actually threw me for a while which made it harder to deal with the contraptions... I also want to brag to my sister that I did it with no pain relief ;)

I had a homebirth last week. It was an ok experience but it wasn't the lovely calm thing I Imagined. it probably would have been different if I'd had my usual midwife, but she was otherwise engaged delivering her grandson :) So, I had someone I'd not met plus a midwife who'd never done a HB before. To be honest the less experienced one was great, I really liked her, but the midwife in charge wasn't so good. I felt everything was a little out of control at times and I got frustrated with her. She just didn't attend to me as I wanted. I did tell her I tend to labour quickly, she examined me and i was 4cm, I told her that i was likely to be fully dilated within half an hour. Within 10 mins the contractions were really strong and I was in a load of pain, I asked for the gas and air, which was in her car. She told me to wait a while for it. Then i said I felt really sick, I stumbled upstairs to the bathroom on my own to be sick, she just left me to go alone. I sat up there for a good 15 mins because i felt so dizzy but no one came to see if I was ok.

When I finally got downstairs I said I really needed some help with the pain, she sat there drinking her tea. The other midwife almost shouted at her to give her the keys so she could go and get the gas and air. Suddenly I started pushing, she told me to stop because there was no way I was already fully dilated, I knew I was... this is my 4th labour, I know how it feels. She only believed me 20 mins later when the head was crowning.

Then we had the whole blood loss thing, to be honest I think it was because she was pulling on the placenta too much after delivery and it split, it wasn't in tact, I saw it, but on my notes she said it was. So, as soon as Lily was born she called the ambulance and I was rushed in. I said I thought there was still some placenta in there but no one listened. So they hooked me up to the IV and left me for 8 hours sitting there in a pool of blood. To cut a huge story short, my regular midwife was on the delivery suite (delivering her grandson as I said) so she came in and asked what on earth I was still doing there? i'd been there for 14 hours at that point. She sorted out the discharge papers and said she'd be round to see me in the morning.

Overnight I passed the rest of the placenta and all was good and normal.

I don't want to put anyone off a homebirth, I realise my experience was probably most unlike the majority of homebirths, but I wouldn't advise anyone to have their first at home, just in case you end up with Laurel and Hardy delivering :) I don't think I would have coped too well if I hadn't done it before and knew what was normal and what wasn't.

OMG toto, I hate those blooming types:mad: why do they think they know everything!
You know your own body (esp after having done it various times before!)
I was really lucky that the MW I had was really good she saw me at 8am when I 1st went in (and home again) then when I went back at 11ish she said "I have a feeling I'll be delivering this baby" (she was finishing at 1) and of course she was right he arrived at 12:57 ;)

but then at my scan for this one I was scanned by a midwife who told me complete bull about my baby being treated by as if it had Hep B coz I hadn't been tested for it this time (Iwas last time)

    Evening all,

skinty - glad to her you have lots of irons in the fire, jobwise! :)

Nothing much to report from me today.. I bloated like a balloon last night - was scary! OH thought I was messing about and curving my back to stick my belly out but I wasn't, my belly really was that big! Still feels like it hasn't gone back down completely.

What is the test for that you get the urine sample jar with the red top and the powder in it? I got one last time round when I went to the midwife early on and got told to bring the sample to my booking in appointment. I wasn't given one this time round, but my booking in appointment is next Weds so I've txt my midwife to see if I need to pick it up from her tomorrow (only there every Weds) to take for next week. Despite needing to pee every five minutes, I can't pee on demand!
