  • OH won't be doing any night feeds. Or any nappy changes! Or anything else baby related that isn't fun!

MY OH would be heading for the door if he hought he could get away with that!! Although having said that everyone is different and it takes all sorts - please don't feel you need to explain yourself to me - I'm not real :shhh:

I would prepare him to be woken up personally - as a first timer myself I clearly have never been through it but I have worked with enough bleary eyed new dads to know that most of them do get woken up...

  • I used to be a heavy sleeper but since DS1 was born him farting in the next room can wake me up! However if I know DS is downstairs with DH am I'm being allowed a lay in I can't hear a thing! Must be in my mind that I know he is safe so don't need to listen out for him! My DH is a light sleeper but DS hardly ever woke him up because he knew I'd get up and make sure he was ok. Strange what babies do to your mind and body!

I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed. We've got a spare room, and he says he'll sleep in there if nessercary, but I'd rather he stayed in our bedroom. Hopefully the baby will sleep through the night from day one :rotfl:

We've always been in agreement that I do the Mummy and house stuff, and he works. Doesn't bother me, I can't really expect him to get up in the night then go to work for 11 hours can I!

AF - my god - how have you managed so far  I have been in exclusively maternity wear since about 15 weeks!!

In my opinion going up a size shouldn't really be an option - if you haven't done your growing yet then you may find that you have a sudden bump spurt!!

I find that over the bump are more comfortable, especially if you are carrying low, although I have some 'on bump' with stretchy side panels that are doing me okay for the moment. I would order, try them on in the comfort of your own home, and return if they are not up to scratch - don't make do because they won't get any more comfortable and comfort is going to be important.
Also - over bump makes you feel all tucked in and covered up - if your top rides up for whatever reason all anyone is going to see is a big elastic panel - with the underbump stuff (created for skinnies if you ask me!!) there is an opportunity for bumpage to show!!

With regard to maternity tops, I have found that tons of them are too low cut for me to wear to work...I have had to adopt a layered look with vest tops...which I am quite liking but why not just make clothes that are boob appropriate in the first place??

i think it obviously really helped when i lost that weight at the start, but nope, getting the bump and that now and it feels uncomfortable if things are too snug around my belly and i dont want to make things uncomfortable in there for bubs either.

I have a couple of tops at the moment but will also need to look at expanding that. I am the same where things tend to be low cut, and i am not one for having my boobs out (as much as hubby would like!!!!)

    might have a snoop online....
  • Feely - I take it OH is not going to be helping with night feeds then? If he thinks he will get away without being woken with a new baby in the house he is going to have a bit of a shock!!!

Oh, I think you will find it absolutely amazing what new Dad's can sleep through (or pretend to sleep through! :rotfl::eek:).

Personally, I did all the weekday night feeds and changes as DH obviously had to get up for work (bless his cotton socks!) and in the early days I would probably be standing over his shoulder anyway making sure he was doing everything the [strike]correct [/strike] my way! :rotfl:

  • FG, maybe DH could bathe baby each night when he comes home (that was my cunning plan as it gave me some time off and I thought it would be a good bonding exercise for DH! ;)). He still does it to this day and they have great fun :D.

I'm definately an over bump fan... Only had one pair of over bump trews with DD but I wore them to death... I found they made my bump a nice shape too (rather than just looking a bit fatter) I never bought any maternity tops first time round because I lost 5st before I got pg so had plenty of bigger tops to wear... I'm not really planning on any maternity tops this time either as the style I wear tends to have plenty of tummy space anyway so sure there's a couple of things I'll still be able to squeeze into... Just currently researching a nice pair of over bump trousers now... The combats I have that are 2 sizes bigger are just fitting nicely....

Oh and with regard to innapropriate boobage... I find I have to layer most of my tops with a vest top... For some reason designers think fat women with big boobs obviously want maximum cleavage out... Not this fat woman tyvm!
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

Everything I wear looks indecent at the moment. My belly fits in all my tops, but my boobs don't. They are enormous and are making me very self concious! I'm venturing into town tomorrow to get measured and I'm terrified!

I opted for the basic t-shirts from mothercare last time as they had quite a nice neck line that covered boobs, It drives me mad that they seem to think that coz our boobs are bigger we'll obviously be squishing them into wonderbras!! hmm very comfy I think not!
I liked the under bump with thick stretchy waist band but my bump was quite small. the over bump were deff the most comfy esp as I was having a winter baby last-time so felt nice and snuggly. I would avoid the on the bump styles or ones with stretch side panels as my tummy got very sensitive and I'm sure these would me annoying, also if your belly button pops out that will be very sensitive (its never experienced being touched by clothes etc before) so i found it best to have it covered.

I found that after a couple of weeks hubby slept through most nights, its funny how on nights when it was hubbys turn I hardly woke up its likeyou have a mummy switch in your brain that you can flick it off when you need to.
