Millie's Mum, I think I have lucked out too with this baby as I had it too easy with Poppy! I had to have Poppy in my room though otherwise I would have been getting out of bed a squillion times a night to check on her as hearing her breathing was the reassurance I needed so that I could sleep(and if I didn't hear her I would prod her :rotfl:).

Millies mum and SB - my baby is going to be easy too
Stoopid question but can't you hear them breathing over the monitor?
MFD xxplease listen to MFD - she is a wise womanProud Mummy to the gorgeous Benjamin John born 14 March 2009, 8lbs 14ozA new little seedling on the way, due 30 September 20120 -
my dd is in her cot in our room, and in the day in the moses basket downstairs or in the pram.
i'm breastfeeding her i wake up before she even cries and am able to get feeding straightaway. Makes no sense in having her further away so i have more traipsing around to do. I could not sleep if she were not in the room!!!
Also keeping your baby nearby day as well as night saves a lot of trips up and down stairs!Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

Don't know - never used one!
When I moved her into her nursery at 8m sleeping was well established and SIDS is greatly reduced after 6m so my worries had lessened somewhat.
Initially, I never put her into her crib/cot upstairs for naps in the day as I followed the idea that the crib is only for the 'big long night time sleep' after her bath....and the Moses basket/pram downstairs was for daytime naps. It worked beautifully for us!.
I'm assuming Millie's Mum didn't use a monitor either due to the noise?
PS: I'm sure Baby MFD will be an angel! :A

No didn't use a monitor, if they are awake you can hear them unless you live in a massive house, as i say I was really surprised by just how noisy babies are!
I also kept baby near me downstairs during the day at first but once you are trying to get a routine established (when they are a bit older) then putting them in the cot and closing the curtains really helped signal to baby that its sleep time.
I can't recommend blackout blinds for babys bedroom highly enough! As a baby we never had any trouble with putting her to bed, she would turn over and sleep as soon as we put the lights out! I wish she still did that!MFW Start Sep 07 £79484, Now £587740 -

I used a moses basket with my 3 (and plan on one for this one - but as I freecycled mine I'll have to get another) I had new mattresses for each one. I hope to get one from NCT or somewhere and just get a new mattress for thsi one.
Dd (11 next month) was in it until about 13 weeks, at which point she was waking once a night. Started occasionally sleeping through at 15 weeks. DS1 was a much chunkier baby and lasted about 9-10 weeks before he outgrew it. DS2 was in it until he was 7 1/2 months!!!!
I b/f all of mine and found it easy to have the moses basket right by the bed and roll them out and into my bed for a feed. I'd often fall asleep and then wake up and put them back in the basket. Minimal disturbance to both of us (and to Dh, who slept through) I personally have no problems with co-sleeping, but don't come under any of the 'riskier' categories for it.
I do use a monitor - but we do have a big house:o You can't hear people in other rooms on the same floor, so I'd stand little chance on a different floor. I still use the monitor for DS2 now (3 in Jan) - but I find you get used to the difference between them moaning in their sleep (which I can sleep through) and actually waking. I can't hear breathing over the monitor, but I do have it a low setting.
I used a stand with the basket upstairs and used to bring it down for in teh day with 1 & 2 - didn't bother with3, although I did bring the basket down for a few weeks. WIth 3 I borrowed a swinging chair which DS2 liked - I'm hoping my cousin still has it for this one!

Added myself to July babies!
Morning all! :wave:0 -
I appreciate it may be a 'personal' thing but i am now needing to look at getting some new jeans and work trousers.
I have been having a look about and would love to buy online but i think i am an 'odd shape'. What are the experienced ladies recommending in terms of maternity trousers/jeans, are over the bump comfortable? are under the bump comfortable?
I am slightly adverse to just buying a bigger size as they will then be bigger all over as opposed to my stomach. oh i am not sure i'm even making sense???
Interested in all the posts re baby sleeping etc. I am wanting baby in with me for quite a while. I dread the thought of them being in another room where i can't keep an eye on them sleeping. Goodness knows when i plan on getting any sleep myself
Got a niggly throat today that is getting on my nerves!!
Welcome to the new ladies :j

I've ordered a pair of over the bump trousers, will let you know what they are like when they get them. I went up a size recently (had lots of size up clothes lying around) but they don't fit now. I'm in pajamas until my maternity trousers arrive! Very hard to find plus size maternity clothes. You'd think fat people never got pregnant. I might just stay in pajamas for the rest of the pregnancy.
Not sure what we are doing about the baby. OH is worried that he won't sleep through it, but he sleeps through most things so I'm sure he will. I can't put a moses basket or a cot by the side of the bed, so the baby will be on the other side of the room. Don't want him in the bed at all - OH is a smoker and I'm pretty plump, both of which are risks aren't they? I think he'll stay in a moses basket down the end of the bed until he outgrows that, then I'll have a panic about where to put him. Don't really like the idea of OH sleeping in the other room though
Don't think we'll be having any 'fun' with the baby in the room - I can't stand it when the rabbit is 'listening' so I don't think I'll be able to cope with a baby listening!
Spoke to the Midwife team and the Delivery unit today - there isn't anyone with experience of substance abuse in this area! Thats good, mustn't be any addicts round here!Stay-at-home, attached Mummy to a 23lb 10oz, 11 month old baby boy.0 -
AF - my god - how have you managed so far  I have been in exclusively maternity wear since about 15 weeks!!
In my opinion going up a size shouldn't really be an option - if you haven't done your growing yet then you may find that you have a sudden bump spurt!!
I find that over the bump are more comfortable, especially if you are carrying low, although I have some 'on bump' with stretchy side panels that are doing me okay for the moment. I would order, try them on in the comfort of your own home, and return if they are not up to scratch - don't make do because they won't get any more comfortable and comfort is going to be important.
Also - over bump makes you feel all tucked in and covered up - if your top rides up for whatever reason all anyone is going to see is a big elastic panel - with the underbump stuff (created for skinnies if you ask me!!) there is an opportunity for bumpage to show!!
With regard to maternity tops, I have found that tons of them are too low cut for me to wear to work...I have had to adopt a layered look with vest tops...which I am quite liking but why not just make clothes that are boob appropriate in the first place??
Feely - I take it OH is not going to be helping with night feeds then? If he thinks he will get away without being woken with a new baby in the house he is going to have a bit of a shock!!! (although I am sure your baby will be an angel too :A )please listen to MFD - she is a wise womanProud Mummy to the gorgeous Benjamin John born 14 March 2009, 8lbs 14ozA new little seedling on the way, due 30 September 20120 -
OH won't be doing any night feeds. Or any nappy changes! Or anything else baby related that isn't fun!
He is a very deep sleeper - the alarm doesn't wake him up in the morning, and he doesn't stir when I go to the toilet 6 times in the night. You think the baby might still wake him? I'm a light sleeper, so will get up as soon as it cries.Stay-at-home, attached Mummy to a 23lb 10oz, 11 month old baby boy.0
