Feelinggood - It is totally fine with just gas and air, In fact I went to 9cms with not a jot of pain relief. I then used gas and air as the midwife needed to break waters, (which made the contractions hurt, a lot) But found it hard to breathe the gas and air and push at the same time so just took some deep sucks on it in between pushing. And here I am planning a similar pain relief birth with this one!!

I remember having the 'chat' with my Mum before Poppy was born and she didn't have any pain relief with any of us three. Not by choice, I might add, just that it was the '70's and the options were extremely limited :rotfl:.
I must admit I am extremely conventional where birth is concerned and the most radical option I looked into was a water birth!.
Poppy was clean and wrapped when I first held her too. DH 'said' he wanted to cut the cord but due to the emergency delivery he didn't get the opportunity (and I think secretly he was relieved!).

OH isn't keen on cutting the cord, he imagines that he'd cut it, and both ends would go flying around the room with loads of blood squirting everywhere. I hope that isn't what happens!Stay-at-home, attached Mummy to a 23lb 10oz, 11 month old baby boy.0

fantastic news elle:D
FG gas and air is great and the effects wear off quickly when you stop taking it all i would say is use the mouthpiece it gives you something to focus on and makes you feel less sick than the mask. my last birth i held n to it for grim death and all i could think once he was here was do i have to stop lol! i dont like painkillers unless im in desperate need of them either!
well thats another friend had a baby boy today! emergency induction 4 weeks early due to dangerously high BP! he was born with forcepts and poor wee thing is bruised something rotten! but he was a great weight at 6lb 7oz!!!!What's for you won't go past you0 -
I didn't think DH would want to cut the cord, but he does.... that's fine by me - the idea of doing it myself makes me cringe. I'm not sure why, but it does.
I'm hoping for a water birth, I've hired a tens machine (to use before I get in the water obviously), and other than that I'm not too worried about making a fixed plan. It's all very well going in saying "I don't want to use any painkillers", but I've never done this before, so I don't know what I'm letting myself in for!
SPD has (almost) done a miraculous recovery today. After being in agony all week something must have slipped back into place somehow. I've been uncomfortable today, getting worse as the afternoon/evening goes on, but compared to how I was 2 days ago I could get up and dance! Now I'm crossing my fingers that it will stay this way for the next 2 weeks at least, as that's when my Mat leave startsIsabella Molly born 14th January 2009

feelie: you should read this book I think it would help as there are some great stories in there lots of women giving birth sans pain relief and doing fine, including one woman who had 25 babies!0

Being pregnant is the best diet I've been on for ages, only gained 4lbs so far! (Thats less than I was gaining before I got pregnant, amazing.)Stay-at-home, attached Mummy to a 23lb 10oz, 11 month old baby boy.0 -
Elle hun thats fab news! I shed a tear or two reading your story! I'm so happy for you x
Feely - they clamp the cord in 2 places and basically "guide" whoever is going to cut it to the right place as far as I can remember! Your OHs ideas did make me chuckle though, bless!
Sorry MFD won't be cleaning your floors .....way down south in Kent. In fact, was really annoyed earlier, had a bowl of water in hallway after scrubbing carpet (no effect yet, bubs still not moved!) and DD managed to "drop" well, totally submerge one of her new Clarks boots in the bowl! ARRGGHH! They don't come cheap, cost me £32 and was so wet, I had to tip loads of water out of them. Not a happy bunny. Got it stuffed with newspaper at the mo in the hopes it will dry out and not be totally ruined. That reminds me, was going to do a search on mse to see what tips people have for drying them out.
So all in all, not the best day for me! Still I'm a bit more relaxed now about bubs being back to back, its not the end of the world, will just go with the flow! If the pain gets too bad and it doesn't move in labour, will have to overcome the fear and have an epidural, the thoughts of needles will be forgotten if the pains that bad! So no due date baby for me...... send some nice labour vibes my way ladies, don't fancy waiting for induction on 5th Dec!
