After my worries at the weekend and being uable to get hold of any of the 4 m/wives whose numbers I had, things were better yesterday when I had dating scan (as I posted)

However, had nuchal & bloods today (OSCAR) at BUPA hospital (local hosp don't do oscar & still charge for plai nuchal, so we went pte) I have a 1:47 change of Downs - large nuchal gap & increased beta hcg in blood. Was in tears as trying to pay reception when we left (much better to get you to pay before, methinks). Imm phoned a midwife - got through on 2nd attempt. COnsultant at BUPA recommended we have invasive testing. M/w said she'd phone hosp for appt & get them to phone me - that was over 4 hours ago and I've heard nothig yet. I'm trying to be postive - I have a 98% chance that teh baby will be ok, but I could see how large the nuchal gap was myself. I'm 38. When I had number 3 I was 35 and had a 1:1116 chance. Age ives me a 1:158, but the 2 other factors make it much worse. Cosult fells regular spotting (2 weekly) is not good too. Why why whyw whyw whwy whyw whyw whyw whyw why why why whyw why..... :(

  • Is anyone going to the Baby Show in Manchester? DH and I went to the one in Birmingham a few months ago and the goodies and freebies were so fantastic that we're going again! :D We both received Bounty bags there too, along with more Asda coupons :).

I've just about managed to keep up with reading all the posts but never get time to reply...however SB when/where is the Baby Show? i haven't heard anything about it and if you get loads of freebies it'll be worth going.

I haven't added myself to the list yet as waiting for the 12wk dating scan which is in 12 days! very excited!!! :j :j I already have a bit of a bump going on (although from a previous post it might just be water retention :o)

glad to see a few more girls from the TTC thread over here now!

Hello gorgeous, I've been meaning to reply to you, but I've been away from MSE for quite a few days really...just come back to half a ton of PM's - and been working my way through them..!

Here's a fun question for you then.... how did you tell the new grandparents to be??? :D

    Hello :D

Well, for my hubby's mum, she pretty much guessed to be honest. We both went into the sitting room and hubby said 'mum we need to tell you something'. to which her response was 'you're pregnant' (looking me of course :rotfl: ) she was shocked though because we have always laughed off the thought of having children.

As for my parents (they live oveseas) so I had to do that one by phone call. I phoned my mum, asked her if she was sitting down and just said that i was going to have a baby. At which point she yelled out like mad to my dad who jumped on the phone as quick as lightening and asked all the questions i thought mum would ask, not dad.

Everyone has been brilliant and supportive.

I appreciate the way we broke the news wasn't extremely inventive but hubby's mum already has a heap of grandchildren and with my parents so far away, it was difficult to do something 'out of the ordinary'.

However, with my parents though, whenever i have been for a scan and got my pics, i always write the email as it is from the baby. Like 'hello nanny and granddad. my mummy and daddy thought you would like to see what i looked like today ...' and continue the email in that tone. They love it!!

((Greent)) I'm sorry things are difficult for you at the moment. I don't have any advice but wanted to send you some ((hugs)). Do you think pregnancy counselling might help?

Oh Greent Im so sorry for you but as you say it may all be ok, and even if its not ideal it doesnt mean it wont be just as rewarding.

I know we all worry and im one of the best but if its going to be it was always going to be and if its not it never was, if that makes sense!!! so deep breaths and plenty of smiles to give baby endorphins (((hugs)))
