Yes I have started taking folic acid, only since last week when I started to think I was pg, I went and bought a packet from Tesco, their own brand ones. I am starting to think that perhaps I should have got a different sort though that includes vitamins too, as I dont think my diet is the greatest, but now Ive bought the folic acid I will stick to that for now. Are you taking it yet Hayley11?

I have been taking folic acid daily since the first day we started TTC which was about 4 years ago now.
Apparently all women are advised to take it as soon as you start TTC, not just older women.

I just looked at hubbys multi vits and they do contain folic acid. He takes tescos own brand of "general wellbeing" mulit vits.

I used to take Pregnacare as they were for when TTC, pregnancy and after the birth but they gave me shocking headaches.
Now I just take folic acid everyday.

No i'm not taking anything :o I wasn't sure whether I was supposed to or not. See so glad I've got all you clever people to ask :D I saw some multi vitamins in boots near all the fertility stuff that are aimed at people who are ttc or early preg. Might get some of them.

Is best to take specially for ttc/pg ones,as they tend not to contain vitamin A, which is not so good for pg ladies - they will contain a higher dose of folic acid. This site reckons starting after you get pg may be on the late side...

NB women with some conditions will need more folic acid:

You may already know this, but folic acid may also reduce the risk of cleft lips and palates:

    Hope this helps

Do some research online first for a good price. I used to take Pregnacare and got a really good deal online, was shocked at the price difference compared to Tesco, Boots etc.

Pardon me for sticking my head back in for a min.. :)

The advice is usually to take FA for three months before you start TTC then continuously until you get to 12wks pregnant, whenever that may be. I know you'll probably all know when you're pregnant as you're actively TTC, but you shouldn't take standard multivits as they contain Vitamin A and too much of that is bad for baby's eye development so you don't want to continue to take the standard multivit once pregnant, hence better to take a TTC one from the outset :) HTH. Good luck to all! xx
