Pardon me for sticking my head back in for a min.. :)

The advice is usually to take FA for three months before you start TTC then continuously until you get to 12wks pregnant, whenever that may be. I know you'll probably all know when you're pregnant as you're actively TTC, but you shouldn't take standard multivits as they contain Vitamin A and too much of that is bad for baby's eye development so you don't want to continue to take the standard multivit once pregnant, hence better to take a TTC one from the outset :) HTH. Good luck to all! xx

ETA: Oh AnnieM beat me to it! :D

Elle - I read the whole pregnancy thread (can't you tell i'm off work at the mo ) and I was so happy for you when I read you were pregnant, congrats hun :)

With regards to folic acid, How can they suggest you take it 3 months before you ttc because you wont know you're going to ttc do you? If you get what I mean?

Anyway I'm definitely going to have a look around for some and start taking them ASAP :D

Vickyjayne - sorry to hear about your DD, hope she feels better soon so you can get some sleep then get back to your SMEP/BDing :)
 Think happy & you'll be happy

Thank you. I don't know how far you read back, but I came off the Pill in April, was pregnant by June, had a m/c in August then was told to wait two months (went back to condoms - ick!) then conceived again on the first month of trying in October. See, it does happen (I'm 24, OH has just turned 36, if that helps) but unfortunately it's not always all plain sailing even once you do fall pregnant :(

Re: folic acid, the idea - ya know, in a textbook ideal world! - is that you come off the pill and start taking FA and using condoms for three months.. gets the pill hormones out of your system and lets your own natural cycle fall into place, then you stop using condoms, leave it to nature to fall pregnant then keep taking FA until you get to 12wks minimum. Won't do you any harm to be on FA for years if that's how long it takes to conceive, that's why it's also in standard multivits. (see ETA2)

I got FA from Boots in a green and white container which looked like a sweetner dispenser. I think it was £3 something for 90 tablets, so three months supply.

Oh, and as for the pregnancy tests, no matter how much you said you won't get obsessed, you will - particularly in the first few months - so do buy the cheapies from ebay and AD and only use the Clearblue type once you get a vaguely definite positive. And read the instructions - I made an expensive mistake with a Clearblue test by not leaving it in the pot for long enough! :(

There was something else I was going to say.. can't think now, but I'll come back! I still read this thread as I love seeing the BFPs, no matter how long it takes for everyone! :) Best wishes to all xx

ETA: Remembered now! Was just about how long it took my own cycle to come back after I came off the Pill.. went on it when I was 16, think I tried about four different types, came off it when I was 19 and my periods didn't return for the whole eight months I was off it. Got a new bf and went on to the MiniPill (the combined one gave me headaches), was on the MP for four plus years with no periods ever, came off it on 2nd April and AF showed up on 29th April and came every 28 days after that. Just wanted to highlight it's not unusual for your cycle to take up to a year (I think I read that somewhere) to return to normal after coming off the Pill, so don't lose heart if it takes a while :)

ETA2: Just another thought, I suppose the three months of using condoms also helps with your stress levels and cycle because you know (well 97% if used properly or whatever) that you're not going to get pregnant in those three months so you're not stressing about it and then the stress isn't interfering with your cycle returning, just as stress can delay AF in any month (other than when controlled by the hormones in taking the pill regularly). Obviously this is all just the textbook version and what I've read in pregnancy magazines and books - clearly isn't what I did so I'm not one to talk.. just explaining the theories :)

On the subject of vitamins, I've just seen a Boots 3-4-2 tv ad on most of their vitamins and also just found these - http://www.boots.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?categoryParentId=3885&storeId=10052&productId=52214&callingViewName=&categoryId=4205&langId=-1&catalogId=11051 - on offer on their website. Again, they say take for three months before TTC. Don't forget, your OHs have to have a good healthy lifestyle too (overlooking the crisps for a minute!) - they are 50% of making this baby too! :)

    Hi everyone

I have been lurking for a while but like the thread so much I thought I should introduce myself and my TTC journey so far.
I am 28 and DH is 25 and we have 2 children. I had 1 at the age of 20 (complete accident first time we ever did it) then 3 years later I got pregnant again but this time had a miscarriage at 8 weeks. We kept trying and 3 months later I was pregnant again(although I never had any symptoms for all those who symptom spot) and this time I had a boy. We have been trying for a third baby for the past year. I got pregnant last November but it was ectopic and I had to have methotrexate then I got pregnant again this May just after tryin again an this resulted in another ectopic on the same side so I had to have my left tube removed. We have been trying since the op but as yet nothing. I hope you don't mind me psting on here. I was gonna post on the other thread for people having problems but the way I see it now that they have taken the damaged tube away I don't have a problem and will conceive it just may take longer then in the past. Anyway, sorry for the long post. Good look evryone

BTW I am 3DPO so will probably post a bit more during my 2WW

    Welcome to the thread, Katie.

I have to say I think your attitude is a real inspiration, and I hope now they have removed the offending tube, it will happen very soon for you! :j

  • Hi all. Just been catching up with the latest posts, very useful info thank you.

Well I saw the first signs of AF this morning so I am strangely pleased that she is finally showing her face!! Just wondering how bad/heavy she will be now  She was 5/6 days late but a good sign that my body is at least starting to get back to normal after the pill. My HB was away last night so I have just text him to tell him, not sure he will be quite expecting a text about my periods!! :D
