WelcomeYou'll pick up the abbreviation pretty quickly and if there's any you don't know someone will tell you, just ask.
Not to state the obvious, but the regular thing is due to the pill firstly and also when you just come off it after being on it for years, I think your body initially continues this pattern for a few months at least because I came off at the start of this year after being on it for 9 years non-stop and I stayed at a 28 day cycle for more than 6 months and then it started to change a bit and get a bit less predictable, not by much but still it started to change so don't be too surprised if it does change eventually.
Firstly the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Tony Weschler is a good reference to start with- I got one off ebay.
I started to take my basel body temp (BBT) orally (Google will kick up loads on it) the first month we started trying (Sept this year) to try and get to know my cycle as I was on microgynon and didn't ovulate (found this out after coming off it that this is how it works, had no clue- went on it at 18 and just took what I was given and asked nothingand continued not to ask for 9 years!) so temping can tell you whne this happens then you can see how long the different parts of your cycle are etc and when you eventually get pregnant it is a good way of letting you know when you have done it (I got pg in Sept so that was good but bu**ered up the "getting to know my cycle" plan). So I recommend trying that (some people just don't get on with it but I like it), a digital thermometer is a couple of quid in Savers. I also try and check cervical mucous (CM) to pre-empt ovulation (ov) as temping only tells you after the event.

Please can I join? OH and I decided a couple of days ago we are now ready for a baby :T So exciting! I've been off my pill a couple weeks (I ran out because the stupid doctor only gave me 3 months instead of 6 and I didn't realise!) So I was going to go back on it but we were talking and decided that we really want a baby now!
I am a regular on MSE, been coming on here for years BUT we haven't told anybody we're trying (some of my friends know who I am on here) because we don't want to build it up into a big thing, I know how long it can take and I don't want to have to keep saying to all my friends and family every month, no we're not pregnant yet!
Anyway I've had a good read through this thread, not read it all but read quite a bit and my god it's all gone right over my head!! I thought it was just a case of doing the deed as much as possible and around ovulation time and then hope for the best! I've had a look at the abbrievations so I kind of know what you're talking about...but not really :rotfl:
I think my AF (ooh look at me using the lingo!) is due on the 30th Nov, I am very regular, almost to the hour, it's quite scary :rotfl: And I'm on a 28 day cycle. I've been on the pill for about 8 years, I had a break for about 6 months earlier this year because my new GP "thought it best." I'm starting to think he wants me to get pregnant actually
:rotfl:
I'm really hoping I get pregnant very fast because my period absolutely floors me when i'm not on my pill, I end up in bed, shivering and burning up at the same, I have very loose bowel movements the whole time, I'm sick, I have bad headaches, I get the most painful cramps, it's just not a fun few days reallyGod knows how i'll cope with pregnancy/labour  :rotfl:
Anyway I'll stop waffling now! Looking forward to joining in the baby making chat
H x
hopefully if youve only just come off the pill you will be quite fertile! fingers crossed and welcome!! xxx0 -
I'm trying so hard to not get worked up, but I'm now on day 37 and no sign of AF. I've had cramps and nausea for two weeks now. Sometimes I'm more nauseous and at other times I'm more crampy, but the cramps aren't anything more than mild. I have very rarely had AF on day 35, but apart from my 2nd ever period it's never been this late.
I took a digital test on Tuesday and it was negative. I don't actually think I am pregnant, but until AF comes I can't quite shake the hope that I might be. At what point would it be considered late enough to go to the doctor for a blood test? I'm hoping it will come over the weekend, but it honestly doesn't feel as if it's due anymore. I'll test again tomorrow or Sunday if it doesn't come, but I really don't feel pregnant either. Is it possible to just skip a period?0 -

ThanksIt all seems so complicated! I'm sure I'll get my head around it all sooner or later. Erm..how do you measure CM?
I can't remember how regular I was before I started taking the pill so yeah you might be right. I just read that you don't ovulate whilst on Cilest either, does that mean it can take longer to get pregnant? I also didn't ask any questions about the pill, I just took it and didn't have any side effects so carried on taking it!
I was looking at the ovulation tests on Boots, are they any good? I'll definitely start tracking my BBT though, i'll get a thermometer tomorrow
Thanks djdymond0 -
I'm just reading about ovulation and the signs...never really thought about it much before but one of them is cramping on one side of your stomach, well last Saturday I remember having quite painful cramps on my right side, I was going out and had to take some painkillers. I was a bit worried my appendix was going to blow up to be honest  But it might have been me ovulating? It would have been almost two weeks after the start of my last AF.
If you've been on the pill for a long time (technically i've been on it for 3 months, had a 6 month break and before that was on it for about 8 years) do you start ovulating straight away?
Sorry if i'm asking stupid questions0 -
Hey!
Good luck
Just wanted to add...I've been off the pill a horrifying 7 months and no period yet - so if you don't get your period for a while, don't worry, it's just your body getting rid of all those nasties
Also in case anyone may know...I haven't had a period thus seemingly haven't ovulated - is there any way I can temp etc to find out when I am, before a period? - Confused much?!

Sometimes you'll see more or less at different times of your cycle and you can look at the loo roll after wiping and see the differences- I don't think I got that much really so end up prodding up to my cervix directly and see what's going on up there- bit scary to start with and some folk really cannot even think about doing it, but after the initial ickiness, it can help- you will also feel what your cervix is doing e.g. is it hard/soft, open/closed- again Google it and there will be tonnes to read about how to do it and interpret it
I can't remember how regular I was before I started taking the pill so yeah you might be right. I just read that you don't ovulate whilst on Cilest either, does that mean it can take longer to get pregnant? Well I asked about Microgynon and the doc said that you can get pg if you miss pills so once coming off them I reckon there shouldn't be a problem
I was looking at the ovulation tests on Boots, are they any good? I don't really have experience of these- but don't get them from boots are tres expensive, I get pg tests off ebay shop FertilityPlan and are good value for multiple-you'll need lots of ov tests I reckon, more than pg tests but others suggest Access Diagnostics also on the net for cheaper ones. I used a cheapie ebay pg test and got a positive, not strong before my missed AF when I was pg so they work (for me at least)
Basically more CM near ov and gets more like the consistency of egg white hence term EWCM, but not everyone get this EWCM, I don't think I do. It also may get thinner and wetter near ov, and this change in consistency is to make it easier for sperm to swim up through your cervix, which will go softer, higher and open up at ov for same reason.0 -

When I came off the pill earlier in the year, I was off it for 6 months and I was still as regular as clockwork? But it probably is what Lizzie said, my body just continuing in the same way for a while. Sorry for sounding thick but if I carry on having regular periods like I was having on my pill, am I ovulating? Or is it impossible to know, is each woman different?0 -

ThanksI've had a read about checking the cervix...not sure i'll be able to tell any different to be honest but I may start having a poke around
I think i'm doing my OH's head in already, he thinks i'm going to get obsessive but I'm not, I know it can take a while and i'm happy to just let nature take it's course. I just like to arm myself with as much info as possible when trying something new0 -

I aksed doc about AF and ov and whether you can have an AF without an ov, and she said that pretty much if you have no AF then there has been no ov (however there are always exceptions...).
If you take your BBT in the morning, either orally or vaginally (no ta!), as this is a good way of seeing if and when you are ov. There are rules to doing this and deviations from them can cause slight differences in temp- I am alright at the rules but not strict as sometimes difficult and don't find too much variation. The short version is that you plod along at temps of ~97-97.5 F but can be outside this (my thermometer if in Farenheit as shows smaller temp changes than celcius, I do believe) between AF and ov then after ov there should be a temp rise of > 0.4 F (I think, as this is from memory and TCOYF book- to do with progesterone being produced and making your body a nice cosy place for fertilisation etc) and your temp stays high during the luteral phase until dropping at time of AF- rinse & repeat as necessaryLuteal phases range in days but apparently this part of your cycle is pretty much fixed, it is the follicular phase prior to ov that varies. The rule goes that if you see high temps contunuing for 18 or more after the temp shift then there is a high likelihood that you are pg.
Phew, that too a while
I am still waiting for my temp shift, grr!0
