    Hi everyone,

Been trying for 5 months now...had previously been on pill.

My cycles have been irregular, 26, 25, 28, 33, 36 days....so i can never predict when AF is due. I have been using clearblue ovulation test sticks which tell me I am ovulating at least. Last month we BD'd 4 times over the 2 days I was supposed to be ovulating...but alas...AF came as normal. I had convinced myself I was BFP too!!! Yes, I was symptom spotting madly!

I have been reading up and advice online is to only BD every other day...as his 'little soldiers' need to be fresh to work best...anyone else heard this? also I lay down for 10 mins or so after each time to give them the best chance....but still no luck.

I have started taking pregnacare vitamins to help my body become ready for pregnancy and they are supposed to help your chances of conceiving....can anyone vouch for these or are they a waste of money?

Is there anything else we should be doing to increase our chances?

What else should we be doing?

Hi moneyangel! your cycles don't look too bad for me, assuming they are still settling down. Remember stress, diet and illness can all alter your cycle and yours don't look too different to mine really and you're averaging out OK. Do you chart on MyMonthlyCycle or FertilityFriend? Both offer a free service and can help you to chart your OV and periods, can be reasssuring to keep a record of your cycles.

Yes, the general consensus is to BD every other day, concentrating on the days before OV and the day of OV - but do whatever feels right for you both and try to keep the fun and enjoyment - it will make life much easier to live with!

As to supplements, just taking folic acid is the recommendation so you are doing above and beyond that - some of us just take folic acid, some take Pregnacare, Sanatogen and so on - again, just whatever is best for you. I take the Boots version as these seem easier on my stomach and I alternate these with simple folic acid tablets to stretch everything further - well, I'm only little! My partner also takes a supplement containing zinc, but again this is personal preference - we just looked at our diets and lifestyle and guessed a little extra wouldn't hurt!

So a warm welcome to the MSE world of TTC - enjoy the trying and come and chat whenever you want to!

    Hi Moneyangel,
I have heard the every other day tactic as well and that is mainly what we have started to try. The sperm meets egg plan say you should bd every other day from cd8 in your cycle until you get a postive on ov test then should do it that day and the following day then a day off and then once more for luck! I'm using the clearblue monitor so we do this aswell as the day after second peak then a day off and once more.
Lots recommend zinc for oh too although my dh keeps forgetting to take his! Amazing isn't it how we always remember to take our pills yet they can't! Very fdrustrating.
Good luck, they do say that a normal couple can take up to 12 months to conceive so very early days for you still.

I was told years ago 'oh don't worry about the time it takes, these things happen naturally when they're ready!'

So glad I've changed surgeries now...

    Hi Moneyangel,

It sounds like we came off the pill at the same time and your cycles have settled back a lot nicer than mine.

Me and my OH both take vit C with zinc and folic acid.

We have only really been trying for two months and have been TTC every other day. This month we are trying the Sperm meets egg plan.

    Wishing you lots of luck.

emmzy - my doctor said we have to go and see him after a year of trying and I need to keep track of what we are trying so he knows we have tried all options. But I told him we didn't want to try until october and he said that 10 months was just about enough time for the pill to be fully out of my system!

    Baby dust to all.

Good morning all, hope BDing so going well and you're in for a beautiful Sunday.

Two more cucumbers growing and lots of tomatoes starting to appear - do you think my fruit and veg are becoming my babies? I think so too! :o
  • Morning all! Welcome to the newbies, and good luck with your ttc journeys, hope its a quick and happy one :)

CD17 for me, FF confirms my suspicions and reckons I ov'd on CD14, so I'm 3dpo (its like acronym city round here!). It suggests I test on the 2nd July, which is good as thats the day OH goes off with his mate for a mini-holiday and I didn't want to have to wait til he got back to test (and equally if -*fingers crossed*- it was good news couldn't not tell anyone for 5 days!) So it means he can go off knowing what I know. Phew.

MadMac - I've got no tomatoes yet but my runner beans I planted late are all popping up, I am very proud of my vegetable brood, so I know how you feel!

I'm on CD3 and hoping things go a bit better this cycle and we BD a bit more and get a better chance at a BFP.

I don't have any tomatoes yet but lots of flowers on the tomato plants so fingers crossed!
