  • hi GP tests are free, like already said clear blue is the best one to get, although there was one called early bird which i used when just four days late and it came up positive.

to be honest i dont think there is much difference between a branded prouduct and a shops own brand is there? if so what is the difference? [apart from price]
nothing is impossible, just maybe difficult.

I am now on day 5 of being 'late', I took 2 tests over the weekend and yesterday morning which both came back neg.

Most likely answer is that you are not pregnant - as 2 tests have showed.

You are now extremely stressed and this is messing with your cycle.

If you are charting your cycle, I assume you are trying to get pregnant, so the chances are higher that you may be! Can you tell from your chart when you ovulated this month? If it was later than in other months, then your period will also be later, as the length of time after ovulation for most women is about the same each month, but the length of time between first day of your period and ovulation can vary. Stress in the second half of your cycle is not supposed to delay your period, so the fact you are worrying about the test result is not likely to be a factor.

Are you temping for your chart? If so how many days has your temperature been raised continuously over your baseline since you ovulated? I think if it is up for more than 19 days then it is likely that you are pregnant. If it hasn't been up for as many days as this, then you most likely ovulated late this month.

Most home pregnancy tests are only 78% accurate when used the day you are due on. The percentage goes up day by day, and by the time you are a week late, they are about 98% accurate. The variance is due to the amount of HCG your body is producing and has nothing to do with the reliability of the test. I have read though that some tests look for different elements of the HCG which varies from woman to woman which means that different tests can work better for different women.

It is possible that you didn't ovulate at all this month, and when that happens sometimes you may miss a period. Again if you are temping or using OPKs, your chart will show this. Assuming you are taking your folic acid, not drinking and eating a sensible diet, and that you want to be pregnant, it won't do you or the baby any harm if it takes another few days to get a positive. If you are looking for a cheaper way to test, a lot of the £1 shops sell a pack of 3 test strips for £1.

Hope you get the result you want.

I think maybe you are but you need to wait a few days then test again. I only ever get my positives when I am at 5+4 and my cycle is 34 days usually. Only you can know if you really think you are, but wait a few more days, till the weekend if you can, then test again. I also recommend Clearblue digital as although expensive they do work.

Can also recommend clear blue. When I was pregnant the doc asked which test I used and as it was clearblue they didn't bother to do any checks at all. Just said that it was a good one and then went onto the rest of the pregnancy stuff.

However, if you can't afford a test and are worried/excited go and see your doctor.

I've always found that First Response work well...I took a pg test the day before I was due my period and it was positive. Three days later I used a Tesco own brand (I had it lying around and wanted to be sure ) and it was only in the last 15 seconds that a very faint line appeared. They are supposed to be the same standard, but (as already said) the variations due to different levels of HCG must make a difference.

Might be worth doing another test in a few days if AF hasn't appeared.

I hope you get the result you want.
    Take care

Thanks for all your replies so far. I think what I will do is get some cheap Wilkos tests as I can probably stretch to £1.99 as not doing anything is killing me :o then if still neg and still no period, I will wait a few days and get a Clearblue when I get paid on Monday.

I am fairly new to all this trying for a baby thing as DD just happened without trying, I believe that I did ovulate this month and yes it was late as I wrote down in my diary when I thought it would be and it was a few days after then, so perhaps this answers that question, Nicki. I certainly do feel like I am about to come on at any minute. I am also a rather nice shade of puce, and feeling slightly sick (though this might be nerves!)

Will keep you posted after lunch when I go to Wilkos.

  • Hi

My local Lloyds pharmacy offers pregnancy tests for free. You could telephone them first just to see what the process is.

You could take one of them saves trying to get into the Docs if it's anything like mine you'ill be waiting forever!!! :o

Ok, I am CD26, but 14DPO today - it seems I may have OVed early this month. Now, seeeing that the longest recorded luteal phase over the last 12+ months on fertilityfriend is 14 days, doesn't sound bad. But, I got some spotting (only the change in cm colour to slightly pink), and I am increadibly tired.
Well, the AF will show up properly probably any time this afternoon or tomorrow. Won't be testing yet - as only have clearblue digital and don't feel like wasting it. And the last few cycles where 26-27 days long, so it is all to come! The temp is still above coverline and a bit higher than yesterday, but I do often start bleeding while the temperature is still up.
