It's so tempting to post a few examples of complaints against TalkTalk but way too time consuming0 -
^ Radioheadcase, though I am no fan of TT (or CPW itself) I do get the impression that the service they provide is much better than it was a year ago. The vast majority of the customers must be happy with the service, or oblivious to its failings, either way they are doing something right, and there are people who I would now suggest the service for (if the better LLU operators were unavailable), though not for me.
The presence of any ISP rep here has to be applauded, though it would be nice if the responce was anything but the default "join our forums".Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0 -
Here`s the other side of the coin.
I was with BT paying £10-50 a month line rental and with Fast4 for my BB connection, which was never above 4 megs, paying a further £16-50 a month.
Total, without the cost of calls £27 a month.
On 3rd April last year I joined TT on an 18 month contract.
My monthly charge is £16-39
For this I get on average a 6.2 megs BB connection, which has never let me down.
Free weekend and evening calls plus free calls ANYTIME to 36 countries
On top of all that the £16-39 INCLUDES my line rental.
All through the change over I was kept informed by TT what was happening and had my free modem delivered with helpful info about TT.
The day of the change over (which was actually earlier than first given) went very smoothly, with a downtime of less than 20 minutes.
I can`t fault TT in any way and have recommended them to friends and relations who also benefit from great savings and great service.
On average taking in the cost of calls with BT, I`m now £20 a month better off with TT.
I wouldn`t hesitate to sign another 18 month contract because I know I can`t get a better deal with anyone else.:T :T :T:T :T0 -
Well.....if they're improving and can offer people a reliable service,it's about time!! I am glad fewer people have to got through what i went through.
Obviously it's still pretty raw for me.
I thought my experience with TalkTalk was relevant in this thread so.........
Anyway..I have since dumped that Albatross.:T :T :T :T :j:j :j :j :j0 -
You know what we switched to Talk talk nearly a year ago now because of the rip off prices we were getting charged for line rental alone...
Now, I like others had a LOT of trouble when we switched. We were with Virgin on a month by month basis (via the BT line - NOT cable) and went from having broadband, to not having it!
I went for a week with no broadband, thank god for 02, and me hooking my phone upto my computer!
Rang TT's tech line - and that didn't do us much good... However! I googled my problem, and the talktalk forum is where i ended up.
Emma and the team were a godsend! mI posted details of my problem, was messaged by a "bluetop" that very hour! They conducted tests on the line that day, giving me updates via PM as we went along....
The very next day we had an engineer booked, as it was a problem from us to the exchange. BT openreach engineer came out, discovered BT had routed the cable wrong, it was fixed, and now have fast and STABLE broadband.
Now, a few weeks ago i speed checked my line, it was only at 4mb, which is low - posted it again on the forums they changed my speed profile - and now im back upto 8mb!
Now if BT, NTL, ZEN et all could be THAT efficient, I'd be with them. However they aint! Now only that but TT is a damn site cheaper! Their phone tech support is a bit naff, but saying that - most people who aren't computer literate aren't particulary going to be able to describe a fault in detail! I know my mum wouldn't if the "light" went out on the "white box with all them lights on, which gives me the internet"!
From what i understand Emma and the gang sometimes work from home too outside of hours, so you can post and you WILL receive a reply... Not waiting hours/days/weeks/years for a call back!!
As for any ISP not pleasing everyone, they NEVER will. If you try to please everyone, you will die trying! Everyone has bad experiences with companies, most complaints aren't resolved - but if the company improves, deals with it and gets better. Then it's good all round!
My 2p worth, more a lurker - and slightly infuriated by you talking to someone who is trying to help. Do you see BT, ZEN et all on here helping in an OFFICIAL capacity?
And no, i don't work for TT.0 -

And no, i don't work for TT.
Like i said i'm glad everyone here haven't had the same problems i had and if TT representatives are on here helping with problems, good.
 Although debt collectors calling at my house put paid to any more dealings i'd have with TT.
Thats just my 2p worth.0 -
i think that talktalk should do better retention offers
you say that people can get £15 of a new router but if they are using a router which has caused them no problems for the past 18 months why go for another
or alternatively the offer of £5 a month for 3 months only amount to a £15 discount for the 18 months which in effect is not that good.0 -
At the end of the 18 month contract you can just carry on a month at a time.
But I agree some kind of a financial incentive is needed to sign for another 18 months.
As you say why change a good router and also why change from TT if you are happy with them.
If it ain`t broken

I just had a call from Talk Talk regarding the fact that my 18 month contract was ending and did i wish to sign up for another 18 months.
I asked on what date it expired and was told it finished in December so was already ended.
I was told if i sign up to the 18 months, prices will remain as they are but i note from TALKTALK Support that this may not be the case.
I raised some questions and was also told that if i sign up to the 18 months and then wanted to move to another provider before the end, it would cost £70. If i didnt sign up, then they wouldnt cut me off but would put me on a month by month contract and if i wanted to switch it would not cost anything.
As with others on here, i was offered the router for £15 which i dont need (still have the original modem in it's box in a cupboard) and was then offered two months half price if i signed up.
Thought i'd check on the website and have a look on here before deciding what to do but my preference is not to sign up for 18 months just in case the price does rocket.
Glad i looked here otherwise i wouldnt have seen the posting regarding the fact that they are only refunding the extra VAT if you ask for it before 31st January so will hopefully have saved some money and possibly added some useful information to this thread.
Regards
Trevor.

Thanks for that Trevor,
When the time comes I will probably do the same as you and carry on monthly.
The only thing that concerns me about TT is that CPW seems determined to hive it off independently from the phone shops.
They were all set to do so until the reccession came along which made them hold fire.
How being a seperate company would affect pricing and contracts is anyone`s guess so not being tied in for another 18 months seems to be a wise policy.0
