Have had several calls from Talk Talk. I told them that I would continue on a month by month basis but would not consider another 18 month contract.

The guy said the price might go up. I said if they put it up by more than RPI I would move. That was 2 months ago and have heard nothing more.

Am considering returning to BT via the return to Donor scheme anyway.

TT called AGAIN today, I think its about once a month. OH told them that we did not want to commit to an 18 month contract, as although we are fairly happy with the service, we want to be able to shop around if we see better deals.
TT said as a good will gesture to 'encourage' us to stay, they would knock off £5 for the next three months.....which is nice, but being the suspicious person I am, I wonder if at the same time, they 'accidently' pressed the 'customer wants an 18 month contract' button!!

Not sure how to check, or how to prove that my husband made it very clear that he did not want to sign up to a contract.

Guess thats the problem with doing things over the phone, nothing in writing, but being given £15 for staying 'for now' is a nice little bonus!
  • I need a laptop for my son at uni and I'm wonering if one of those 'free' laptop deals might be a good thing to sign up for.
No! Bad! Go buy the laptop on it's own, and get the dongle seperately if you need it.

    Hi Guys,

You can continue on your current tariffs on a month by month basis if you wish - there is no guarentee that the price will not go up even if you buy into a new 18 month contract. You may be able to haggle out a good discount though if you are willing to enter into a new contract.

If anyone wants to opt out of getting these marketing calls then register at https://www.talktalkmembers.com/forums and post up. I'll be able to get your details removed from our internal marketing database then. TPS registration will not stop these calls if you are already a customer of ours as we have a legitimate reason to contact you.

There are different deals on each month but most revolve around a discount for x number of months, free calling features and or a discounted router. There is only so much the retentions agents are able to offer as well so dont expect too much!!

If anyone believes they have been "slammed" into a new contract the calls are all kept and archived as distance selling rules say they must be and we can request these and reveiw them. Again this would need to be done through the TalkTalk Members forums.

    Cheers

Thanks for the link EmmaL, I think I will contact them and request not to have thses regular calls.

Are you able to confirm something for me please?

The £5 discount we have apparently been given for 3 months, is this usually given out to customers not in a contract?

We did think to log the date and time of the call, hoping that if we were put on a new contract, we could ask them to review the call (where we clearly stated we did not want a new contract)

Oddly we did get a phonecall from TT the following day, asking us if we still had a fault with our phone (never reported a problem!) then they asked us to confirm our details for 'security reasons' to enable then to 'sign off' the fault as complete/resolved....?!

(I did do 1571 and confirmed it was TT that called)

    Hi Linsos90,

There are discounts available for customers both in and out of contract where an amount can be set as a recurring credit for a number of months. It is a common tool used as an incentive for new contract terms. Pop over to the TalkTalk Members forms and I can take a better look at things for you.

Have to be honest - I've no idea on the fault call you recieved!

    Cheers

Thanks EmmaL, ive not been on the forum, didnt know it existed!

However i assume that for someone to check if I have been put on an 18 month contract, i would need to post my details on there, which doesnt seem that secure, or would I PM you?

    Thanks for that DatabaseError lol

Lindos90, when you register for the forums you are asked for some account information. This is then only visable to TalkTalk Staff/forum admins. We'll ask for a little more information for data protection via a PM so no need to post anything private in the public domain - that is certainly not encouraged and we activly edit out any personal information customers post up.

Why would anybody in their right mind sign up to an 18 month contract?

...and why would any reputable company expect them to?
