Contract terms are there as it costs companies to set up the service and dependant on the offers it can take a certain length of time to re-coup these costs before any profit is made. A large number of very reputable companies now insist on an 18 month contract with some insisting on 24 month terms.

I am the official company representative of Talk Talk. MSE has given permission for me to post in response to queries about the company, so that I can help solve issues. You can see my name on the companies with permission to post list. I am not allowed to tout for business at all. If you believe I am please report it to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com This does NOT imply any form of approval of my company or its products by MSE"

..and a lot of even more reputable companies do not, they provide first class service of course, so their customers do not need to be stitched in to contracts, they stay because they are happy with the service provided.

I have been with my ISP for over 2 years on a month by month contract.

Who is that just out of curiosity?! Once the contract has expierd with TalkTalk you are able to remain a customer on a month by month basis. The only telco I know of with no contract at the moment is the Post Office.

IDNet, but I am sure there are more " monthly contract " ISP's.
  • Get out while you can!!

I had nothing but trouble with Talktalk

Besides offering a sub-standard connection and atrocious customer services.
Their technical support is embarrassingly awful, i was lured by a free connection and router, yet i had to wait for 3 months into my 18 month contract before i even had an internet connection.

Their justification for this was high demand and since the Internet service was "free" i had nothing to complain about. Then I received my third Modem- This one worked and the real problems began.

Since i had to call technical support on average 2 times a week due to the intermittent failure to connect to the internet the calls lasted well over an hour a time and i was mostly cut off only to have to repeat the same issue over again to the next person i spoke too, when you finally get to speak to a Dheli native they tell you the problem will be sorted that day :rotfl:

Not to mention the fact that since i got out of my contract 3 months early they tried to charge me the remainder of my contract and a disconnection fee of £80
Since i had gone to trading standards and this was an ongoing matter- i refused to pay.
TalkTalk refered my case to a debt collectors agency who came to my door and tried to remove property from my house - unsuccsessfully.

I am a single Mother,my daughter was terrified!!!

I can't even begin to tell you how rubbish i think they are but since i switched to Sky with the minimum Tv package i get unlimited broadband Free - On a Month to Month basis.

    Hi Radioheadcase,

Sorry you had a bad experience but this is not everyones experience of the service. If you look around you will find the same kind of reports for all providers. Yes we did have problems when we first launched the service and they took a while to sort out but we have taken HUGE steps forward since then and the serivce and support are greatly improved.

Thank you for sharing your experience though. Is your issue thats with Trading Standards veing dealt with by the CEOs Office at TalkTalk? If not PM me with some more details and I'll get it refered for you.

    Cheers

Simply not true, it only seems to be from the likes of Talk Talk / AOL /Tiscali /Orange, I have never seen a report like that from say Zen and a few other good providers.

A 2 second search finds people with problems on Zen:

"I'm feeling really let down by Zen. For the last four days, my business has had no broadband, and Zen hasn't managed to resolve the problem. Zen's Technical Support refuses to get involved, saying that it's BT's problem. BT, meanwhile, says 'It's a problem caused by your broadband supplier."

    and

"Poor quality of hardware. Poor knowledge levels at technical support. Lack of English speaking tech support (only speak computerease, which I dont and they seem un willing to translate to plain English). So far over 4 hours on phone and no further on. Dreadfull for an award winner!"

You will always find negative stuff if you go looking for it.

    Cheers

Your being very economical with the truth there,to even suggest that Talktalk is in the same league as other ISP's is a complete joke imo. Your company scammed hundreds of thousands of people throughout the country simple as that!

Seriously, why would you think i would have anymore dealings with a company who harassed me?
