Renew Talk Talk Contract

Options
I have received 2 calls urging me to renew my contract with Talk Talk, I have been with them 2 years because of the price although I have found their Tech Support very poor. They offered a Router for £15 to renew and promised to hold the price.I said just leave it as I do not want to commit for 18 months.. I declined but wondered if it was a threat to increase the price.
Opinions would be welcome!
Thank you.

Talk talk have called twice in a week, asking us to renew our contract to a better deal.

Today they siad that we would be unable to carry on with our current contact on a month by month basis and would have to sign up to a new contract, and our current prices would be increasing....

now he was unable to confirm what the difference was between our current conditions, and the 'better' contract he was offering, what our price would go up to if we didnt sign a new contract, or on what basis they would 'disconnect' us if we failed to sign up to a new contract, or indeed send any written details about what he was offereing (which seemed to be different every time he went through it!!!)

I suspect that talk talk are regretting the deals they opened up with...(cheaper than BT and with free broadband and calls). they are also trying to hook people into new contracts to stop people shopping around too.
  • I've just had the call so they are clearly on a big retention drive, I was offered a half price wireless router or a discounted 2 months (£15) if I signed up for a further 18 months, pricing after the discount we remain the same as I currently pay (I'm on the full talk anytime). I told the guy I would think about it and he will call back in a week, I need a laptop for my son at uni and I'm wonering if one of those 'free' laptop deals might be a good thing to sign up for. Apart from the inital set up aggro with TT I've been happy with the service and price. Has anyone seen anything better currently around, I don't really want to go to Sky and I'm not in a cable area?

  • Do we actually have to sign up to this. They are putting us under pressure to sign a new contract, but surely if we do nothing they can't cut us off. I'm actually very happy wtih them, but I don't like this pressure selling.

    Any thoughts?

if they phone me up in 2 months and pressure me to sign up i think im gonna tell them where to go, ive had ok broadband but a few times my phone and net connection has died, when i go thru they said it was maintenance no apology, i dont think thats on as i missed important calls due to this and had no warning.

thinking of goin tiscali are they any cheaper
i will be debt free, i will

dont go to tiscali, they are terrible for tech support. They only have a premium rate number and often put you on hold, i expect to earn themselves a bit more.

I thought about talk talk, but im considering AOL and geting the free laptop. It is a 18 month contract, but most of them are.

TT wrote to me offering 3 months half price if I signed up for 18 months and I ignored it. Then I got the phone call saying "if I didn't sign for another 18 months they may put the price up". I said that if they did I would look elsewhere as I didn't want to sign for another 18 months. Not heard any more from them since.. I too was thinking a laptop might make me or possibly even a free Wii!!
  • NB: AOL Wireless Plus (free laptop) is 24 month contract but if you are quick you will get a really good HP laptop with it.
  • Had 2 calls from retentions this week. To cut a long conversation short - instead of their initial offer of £15 for 2 months, then 16 months at £19.49 for unlimited broadband and line rental. I looked at their site and saw £6.49 broadband and £10.50 line rental. 5 minutes of haggling and supposedly checking with the manager we ended on £5 off for 6 months (NOT their initial offer) so now £11.99 for 6 months then £16.99 for 12 months. Think it sounds like an OK deal

i called last month about a query on my bill and then was told that i am in a contract which expires end on novemeber. That was a surprise as i have been with them for 4 years and the last time i called their CS was 2 years ago.
I was told that when a 18 month contract finishes, we automatically get tied into anther 18 month contract if they dont hear from us.

I was very angry and so now moved to BT 12 month contract for £10.50 with free even and weekend calls, and taken o2 via quidco for £ 7.37 for broadband, plan to use 1899/18866 or others to call abraod or during day-time.
