  • 02 sound quite good! I am thinking of switching over from AOL.
    2 questions though:
    1. Do 02 monitor downloads
    2. How much is the migration fee if there is one.
    Thanks, Tazmanian_Devil

1: The o2 broadband packages are for unlimited downloads and I certainly haven't noticed any throttling.

Not sure if that answers your questions but I regularly download and have not had a problem

2: The connection fee is currently waived
    Waddle you do eh?
  • Thanks for the quick response! :)
And yeah your answers were helpful.

I'm with Zen internet and I have to say that the service is awsome...but it comes at a price ! My 2 sons both have their own computers and this months 50 gig usage limit is looming close (stands at 32 gigs and it's only the 14th). I'm thinking of swithching to an ISP that offers unlimited downloads but I'm hesitant of taking on a fixed contract, are there any heavy users on o2 that can comment ?

I'm a pretty heavy user but cant put a figure on it:

1: I do a lot of ONLINE gaming
2: A fair amount of bit torrent downloading.

I remember with BT Broadband I was forever going over the limit which at the time was quite low (20Gb) but I'm confident that since going to O2 Broadband because of the speed of download I definitely do more file downloading and the knock on effect of the speed is I do more Online Gaming (better experience). I definitely not experienced any throttling and not (yet) received any warnings of excessive usage.

O2 Broadband is a 12 month fixed contract and has a 30 day cooling off period and can be got with unlimited downloads from as little as £7.50

After suffering with Tiscali & PlusNet I moved to Zen - couldn't fault them, but not cheap !

After a couple of years and a house move much closer to the exchange, I decided to try o2, wife has an o2 mobile contract, so 16mb for £10 sounded a no-brainer.
Zen gave me a MAC within 2hrs of asking, even though I was leaving them.

According to "samknows" I am about 650m from the exchange and was getting 6.5 mbs down and 370kbs up (ADSL) from Zen. The first couple of days on o2 I was getting about 13mbs down and 1.1mbs up - quite impressed.

After a couple of weeks I have "settled" at about 11.5mbs down and about 1mbs up (ADSL2+) - however I have noticed that o2 does seem a lot more susceptible to large variations in speed than Zen was. On quite a few occasions my download had dropped to 5/6/7mbs and on one occasion it went to 1.79mbs !

I am going to give it a couple more weeks, if it stays the same I might try o2's customer service and see what they have to say on the subject.

Thanks very much for that info moonrakerz, I should have asked about o2's pings too as I'm a gamer and I've just read somewhere that another gamer isn't very happy as his pings are around the 80 mark, I get around 40 on UK servers, any other gamers on o2, how do you find them ?

I find that power cycling my modem helps with any speed drop.

    Hiya all

Im thinking of switching ISP's to O2 broadband what is the service like and the reliability?

    thanks in advance.:money:

I have transferred from BT to O2 and have had no problems and the bonus is that for as little as £7.50 for O2 Customers you get unlimited downloads.

i was in the )2 shop the other day. The guy tried to sell me BB. It says in the small print that the £7.50 pm offer is only valid if you top-up your mobtel by a certain amount a month or something. Do they stick to this rigouroulsy?
