The last Lynx aircraft fatally downed in Iraq contained 1 x Navy pilot, 1 x Army pilot, 1 x Royal Marine door gunner and 2 x RAF passengers.
All theatres contain personnel from all three arms of the Services, often in mixed roles. It is utterly irresponsible to suggest otherwise, and therefore give people a false impression of what may be expected of them when they join up.
To get back to the original thread - I imagine that whilst Welfare services will be quite happy to help a mother who is missing her young lad after a few weeks training, they may be quite busy at the moment, helping those trying to re-adjust to family life after six months under fire or helping families cope with the loss or permanent crippling of a loved one.
Just a thought.
I'm sorry but this shows you know NOTHING about life in the forces
1. when was the last time you saw some guy in the navy patroling the front line?? hmmmm that will be NEVER!because they have DIFFERENT roles in theatre hence why the training is different...you fool
2. And the welfare officer(yes officer she never said services) at winchester has NOTHING to do with troops coming back from theatre.....erm because his only deals with guys in TRAINING because its a TRAINING REGIMENT.
Jesus there are some Idiots about this forumIf you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly
I've only ever been wrong once! and that was when I thought I was wrong but I was right0 -
He wont thank you for contacting the army, my son has been in the army for 13 yrs now, I remember well what it was like when he joined up,all the worry and waiting to see him, NOW I see him when he wants to come home, he has been in Iraq three times their have been times when I haven;t seen him for nearly a year. I still sit and worry about him but his attatude is this, if anything happens the army will let you know.
I don't like it but what can you do you have to let them grow up and lead their own lives. which your son will do like the rest of them, I also live very far away from where his regiment is based so he doesn't come home on all leave he gets as he prefers to go abroad for the sun and a holiday with his mates.0 -

now we're splitting hairs....you know exactly what i was on about. SHIP CREW
This is the internet, pedantic point scoring when someone makes a blanket statement is what it's all about :-) (Hey, I could have gone back to WWI with the Royal Naval Division).
Yes, ship crew have different training to infantry but those serving in, eg, Joint Helicopter Command will have the same training as their Army/RAF comrades & share the same risks. In the same way, beyond Basic, Army support arms have different training to the Infantry, to quote you: "they have DIFFERENT roles in theatre hence why the training is different"0 -

Not always always true,
I am at an Army unit who have the odd RAF person, however whilst they do do the same job as their Army counterpart their training is not the same.
for 1
RAF do not have to complete the APWT only having to pass their shooting at 100m
2. RAF do not have to complete and pass the CFT
So whilst the jobs MAY be the same the training isn't0 -

Firstly, having served in four operational theatres and being on the Front Line, I have first hand experience unlike armchair warriors like yourself.
Secondly, I'm in the RN. Unfortunately, due to ill informed halfwits like yourself, many people don't realise that serving aboard ships is only part of our role and depending on branch and qualifications, you can be just as likely spend most of your career ashore, in theatre, for example, embedded within a Commando unit, at a JHC FOB, Forward air controller, driver on CLR etc.
Thirdly, I have served over 22 years and whilst you probably have some sort of experience as a cadet when you were at school, it's clear to me that YOU HAVEN'T GOT A CLUE!!!:rotfl:
Keep on reading "Soldier of Fortune" magazine son, whilst everyone gets on with a proper job.:rotfl:Nothing is foolproof, as fools are so ingenious!0 -

23 years Royal Navy, 7 of those years on 3 Commando Brigade and 3 years on Army exchange.
Iraq, Afghanistan, Kosovo and Sierra Leone medals along with the usual NI, LSGC and QGJM.
Be interested to know what your VAST experience is.:rotfl:Nothing is foolproof, as fools are so ingenious!0 -

Have to paraphrase you, but I'm sure servicemen spend loads of time tripping over you whilst they're in the frontline or on ops for months at a time....or maybe they don't because that moronic comment shows that the only experience you have of forces life is some bull !!!!!! that your brother in law told you.0
