See you all there on the 7th November - say 12.00 noon to hit the 1 o'clock news?
Wouldn't it be better to queue outside The Treasury or 10 Downing Street? The FSCS are only acting on instructions from these two bodies. Whatever, I'll be there on November 7th if we've had no clear plan of payment from the FSCS.

But then, I've done diddly for him, so why should he help me?

So you didn't click his link when you opened your Icesave account then? :D

Mortgage-free Glee! Hung up my suit! Xmas Saver!
    http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/Icesave-Help/

This is worth signing, in addition to letters to MPs ....

'We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to provide a savings guarantee for all depositors in Icesave. More details
Submitted by Paul Hartley – Deadline to sign up by: 11 November 2008 – Signatures: 19'

We have already had the savings guaranteed, it's the process we need clarifying!

NB: Text added in red to differentiate my words from the petition words, not angry words, sorry to any sensitive soul that miss-reads or miss-interprets what is written, perhaps blue would be a more acceptable colour so I will change it, also I am not seeking clarification in the form of a petition!:rotfl:

Well said. I can't understand the hysteria. Governments do not use the word "guarantee" lightly and there is 100% certainty we will receive our money in full. The question is timing ...if we don't receive it by January 9 (3 months after default) then EU law will have been broken unless "exceptional" circumstances can be demonstrated.

OK, point taken, but would there be any point in a new petition to No10 for the "clarification of the process"? Please don't shoot me down in (angry) red fonts, there's no need for it, I'm only trying add to the debate and be helpful. I'm in an Icesave FTD, but I'm following the situation and getting involved to try and assist the people who may need the cash more urgently than me, as well as helping myself. ;) Chill out ! We're all on the same side . How would you seek clarification? Apart from wasted phone calls to FSCS employees!

[However, now that the panic has subsided due to the sensible actions of our government I feel that there is no real discussion any more. It has degenerated into a platoon Dad's Army conscripts aiming to waste official's time by writing long winded letters to MPs.]

Your panic may have subsided, but many people are relying on interest on their deposits to pay monthly bills, they will still be very concerned.
The actions of the Government are to say the least questionable. Many blame them for exacerbating the Kaupthing Edge collapse and it could be argued that they have caused an unnecessary spat with Iceland that may well delay the compensation scheme. There is and should always be need for discussion and those who disagree with you may find it offensive to be compared to TV comic characters. As for officials and MPs, it is part of their job to read longwinded letters. To make such a disparaging remark about other forum users who have decided to bring the matter to their elected representatives is not helpful.

[The point is, we will have our money. This is despite the fact that the first 15K or so was not protected or guaranteed by our government. Icesave was a branch of a foreign bank. We chose to invest there and most of us are probably feeling relieved that we're getting our cash back.]

The point is we haven't got our money. Can you access yours?
Yes of course we are relieved that we have been made a promise that our deposits will be returned. I only hope that this political promise is not put on the back burner like many of the manifesto promises.

[What would be the point of embarrassing any organisation any further? Smacks of people with too much time on their hands biting the hand that feeds.]

When is feeding time? ............. I'm starving!

  • There are 4 petitions on the No 10 e-petition website re: Icesave, and they are all weak and not saying what we want. They also have hardly any signatures. It needs someone to set up a new one that is strongly worded and to the point and should mention accelerated payment! Is there anyone out there that is eloquent enough (don't think I'm eloquent enough!) to set one up and then we can all sign it? If 300,000 people were to all sign it, it may have some clout! We can then promote it on this forum and others to get lots of people to sign.
