    Here is the address:

    Financial Services Compensation Scheme
    7th floor, Lloyds Chambers
    Portsoken Street
    London E1 8BN

See you all there on the 7th November - say 12.00 noon to hit the 1 o'clock news?

    Correct.
If organised well it would only take a morning of everyones time.
There are 230,000 Icesavers alone. There must be a good few thousand in reachable distance of central London.

Forget writing to MPs, half of em won't have a job in 15 months time, does anyone seriously think they'll give a monkeys about anyone else, when theyre staring down the barrel themselves? Not a chance.
Our best hope in that direction would be an instance where Darlings wife or realtion has a wedge in Icesave. Although we'll NEVER get to hear about that.

A nice, big, winding, half mile, orderly queue outside the FSA or FSCS offices would be highly potent and newsworthy in my opinion.
    Im in!

I'm in as well. I live in S.London, can be at FSCS in 30 mins. Shall we start a list of names and see how many we can muster ? Maybe we could try to co-ordinate with all other ICESAVE groups ie: Facebook etc ....

Bit earlier, i reckon 10.30-11 Give em time to edit the package.
Do we need police permission to stand in the street?
If we formed a single file queue we wouldnt even block the pavement. No need for banners placards unruliness.
Just our quiet, meandering, snaking, presence.

    7th November. Lets do it.

I must say that I too am not optimistic about the likely results from writing to MPs. What they usually do with correspondence like this is to send it off the relevant Department (presumably Treasury in this case) and some official somewhere will prepare a written reply that will, in all likelihood, merely trot out the usual claptrap we've already seen examples of on the FSCS website. The reply will go back to the MP who will then send it back to the constituent, adding no further value. However, it doesn't cost much to go through the process and it seems better than doing nothing at all. I have already sent mine, and others are welcome to copy it however they see fit in their circumstances. If they get enough, it's possible they might decide to raise the matter as an Oral PQ, which is likely to get far more attenttion.

The suggestion that we are being over-hasty in expecting reimbursement soon, given the 6 month limit the FSCS set themselves, seems unreasonable to me. Firstly, in the case of Northern Rock, Bradford & Bingley, Kaupthing Edge, the depositors were given protection immediately. Why should Icesave customers receive any less timely treatment? Secondly, a delay in dealing with Icesave retail depositors would be more bearable if we had clear guidance on the matter of payment of interest for instant access accounts, and hard facts on exactly what is the state of play in negotiations that is actually causing delay, rather than the very vague information put out so far by FSCS. I can't see what the problem is in early settlement since the necessary money to fund the repayments to retail depositors should be quickly available from HMT, just as it was with the other failed institutions mentioned above.

I doubt that any planeed mass demonstration outside FSCS HQ would actually generate enough depositors turning up, but if it could somehow be guaranteed then I'd go.

I shouldn't think we need permission just to form an orderly queue. If we get arrested, so much more publicity! Maybe a lawyer could help here?

    11.00 then - I'm in!

How about a few thousand of us forming a queue outside the FSCS offices? The Government won't want Nothern Rock style pictures of disgruntled savers broadcast all over the world again - look how quickly they reacted to that!

Careful Briskly, the Government have already manipulated anti terrorist laws, you'll end up with Special Branch at your door!
    ;)

  • Well, I've been following these forums quite closely over the past two weeks because we had most of our savings in KE and Icesave. The debate was great to get the latest news and links to news.

However, now that the panic has subsided due to the sensible actions of our government I feel that there is no real discussion any more. It has degenerated into a platoon Dad's Army conscripts aiming to waste official's time by writing long winded letters to MPs.

The point is, we will have our money. This is despite the fact that the first 15K or so was not protected or guaranteed by our government. Icesave was a branch of a foreign bank. We chose to invest there and most of us are probably feeling relieved that we're getting our cash back.

What would be the point of embarrassing any organisation any further? Smacks of people with too much time on their hands biting the hand that feeds.

  • Trollfever, are you suggesting that Martin was PAID to recommend Icesave?

    Hmm....

If true, the very VERY least he can do for us is support us in the media.

    His silence is deafening...
