tattybear why don`t you e mail your mp like others have. MP`s have more clout than we have. No point in getting angry as it just makes us ill and no-one else cares about us getting ill. Go with the flow and e mail your mp and your am etc I have already had my first response. The MPs cannot afford to lose 300,000 votes. Contact e mail link is on the 11 days thread

ps we also need our icesave savings to live on as we are retired and have only my very small pension for 4 more years

only way is too pester them -Martin where are you when we need you??? can you get some true factual information for us ?
  • ruefullyaware I am also interested to know whether HMRC will show any leniency for those of us who have all our tax money saved with IceSave, must be such a small % of the overall number of people who need to pay their bill by the end of January 09. However, I fully suspect they will not!

EagerLearner - just FYI I spoke to a tax advisor today. HMRC are aware that many people are in this position, but there is no official line on this yet. They advised me to wait until the beginning of January and then make a case to them if it transpires that our money will not be released by the end of that month. We discussed how one would go about proving that the deposit was earmarked for tax - I imagine some people may "try it on" in an attempt to wriggle out of the deadline. In my case, I hope I will be able to show that the sum deposited roughly corresponds to the amount of tax due (although I did round it up and didn't bother taking off allowances etc).

The impression I got was that they would take a genuine claim seriously and they understand the predicament and the fact that it affects many people.

I hope that gives you some crumb of comfort in this whole thing.

I am not sure if anyone has suggested this here, but it seems to me that if enough people make a fuss about it to their MPs or speak to the press, the FSCS might be a bit more forthcoming. I know some people think Icesave customers are greedy. This makes no sense to me. We are just people who tried to avail of the best interest rates at the time. None of us expected the bank to go under. I do not think that we should be ashamed of asking for more transparency regarding timescales. If the event of default has occurred, why are the FSCS not sending us out our claim forms and getting the ball rolling?

I am thinking of writing to my MP anyway. Maybe it will help a little.

I've emailed Mr Eyebrows at the Treasury with a request for information. I'll see if I get anything back. I don't even know who my MP is. If my area has got one, they certainly don't ever show their face.

tattybear this is the link. It is SO EASY to use. I wrote one letter quickly, I wasn`t angry in my letter as there is no point but I did say how I needed the money etc and I then copied and pasted it to everyone else. 9 people in all. Took 5 minutes

    Two points:

1." As has already been stated by the FSCS, all terms and conditions of any Icesave retail depositor item were broken with the fall the bank and therefore are academic after 8th October 2008. Interest, as per several FSCS representatives, will ONLY be paid up to the 'fall' date. This is what they have 'been instructed' to say."

But what we are talking about here is not Icesaves terms & conditions re the fixed term accounts but the FSCS rules & regulation as per note 8 on their own website. So is the FSCS person saying that the r&r on their own website are wrong???
  • Seems like FSCS have updated their site!

I've found who my MP is, and have sent them a nice letter through that site.

    Thanks, Kittie.:)
