FSCS Chief Executive Loretta Minghella said today: "Our message to savers entitled to our protection is simple: your money is safe. Our paramount concern is to ensure that you get it back as quickly as possible, so we are doing everything we can to agree an innovative solution which will significantly accelerate the process."

I am really geting fed up with with statements from Chief Executives and politicians that sound good but completely lack substance.

"Our message to savers entitled to our protection is simple: your money is safe. We know that, it is you job to ensure our deposits are safe, infact they are so save that we can't even get to them!

Our paramount concern is to ensure that you get it back as quickly as possible, I should think so too!

so we are doing everything we can to agree an innovative solution which will significantly accelerate the process." Just give us a hint of what your innovative solution is, surely we have a right to know!

Most of the forum posts on Icesave are being made by people who are now rightfully frustrated by the apparent lack of action by the appropriate authorities and it is the lack of positive information from these authorities that is fuelling their concerns.

I am sure that people are working extremely hard to return our money asap
but during this process please lets have some straight talk rather than political and organisational garb!

  • I'm probably not the first to say this but what is required is a high profile, media savvy champion to make sure that the politicians are not allowed to 'kick this into the long grass' which seems to be what is happening at the moment when one considers the anodyne but empty statements being made by the FSCS.

The ideal candidate is, of course, Martin Lewis. Unfortunately when it matters he seems to have lost interest and gone AWOL having missed various opportunities this last week to keep the pressure on.

What about Gordon Ramsey using a few choice words might have some affect.

How about a few thousand of us forming a queue outside the FSCS offices? The Government won't want Nothern Rock style pictures of disgruntled savers broadcast all over the world again - look how quickly they reacted to that!
  • I don't understand what this delay is you are all talking about. According the FSCS's web site it can take up to six months to process a claim. It has only been a couple weeks since ICESAVE defaulted.

The Treasury and FSCS seem to be doing everything they can to speed up the claims process. People with accounts with ICESAVE should be writing letters to thank them for stepping in and protecting all savings, not to grumble and moan about having to wait.

The following is taken from: http://www.fscs.org.uk/consumer/faqs/claiming_compensation_faqs/

How long will it take to process my claim?

After a declaration of default, FSCS aims to process all claims within six months. However, the time this takes depends very much on the type of claim. For example, most credit union claims can be completed within four weeks. For other types of claim it may take longer, depending on how complex it is and on some factors that may be outside of our control, such as waiting for information from third parties.

    Correct.
If organised well it would only take a morning of everyones time.
There are 230,000 Icesavers alone. There must be a good few thousand in reachable distance of central London.

Forget writing to MPs, half of em won't have a job in 15 months time, does anyone seriously think they'll give a monkeys about anyone else, when theyre staring down the barrel themselves? Not a chance.
Our best hope in that direction would be an instance where Darlings wife or realtion has a wedge in Icesave. Although we'll NEVER get to hear about that.

A nice, big, winding, half mile, orderly queue outside the FSA or FSCS offices would be highly potent and newsworthy in my opinion.

Would you care to enlighten me as to what you think that the Treasury or the FSCS have actually done to date? All I've heard are soothing noises and vague promises that something will be done, next week! The delay we are (all) talking about is in the promulgation of a concrete plan and associated time scale.

  • Finally! Someone's come up with an idea that will embarrass the politicians and accelerate the return of our money.

Call it the Queue For Our Cash or the Ice Queue.

A peaceful, orderly queue of, say, 100000 people outside the FSCS, say 1 month to the day that Icesave collapsed - 7th November?

We'd need the police's approval, but if we get the media involved, coverage is guaranteed.
