Last time I visited these forums everyone was kissing Brown and Darling's ar*es (e.g I and my family will vote Labour till the day we die etc) how things change in a week. Having read the posts here I've become vexed at the prospect of waiting 6 months+ for my 35k while the Icelandic and GB Government go through legal disputes which could run an age. I cannot understand why last weekend the FSA delegation were said to be coming to agreements with the Icelandic authorities only for the the FSA to disappear on the Sunday morning almost in a puff of smoke!
I agree that the only way to sort this out is for everyone to write to their MP's and if the fsa keep dithering next week/ continue to keep us in the dark without a timetable for us to get our money back then we need to get the media involved and create a bit of a stink.0 -
For what its worth my patience is exhausted I see no reason at this point why we haven't heard. I have just written to my MP and raised a formal complaint with the FRCS. Not that I expect much from my MP but given he is already on shaky ground locally it might just get him asking questions and putting pressure on

My letter below if anyone wishes to use it and amend it to their own needs
Dear xxx xx
I am writing to express my disgust at the way the FSCS are treating depositors in Icesave. Its been two weeks now since Icesave was declared in default. As far as I can see all the FSCS are doing are putting out platitudes.
There is no reason that I can see why they have not issued claim forms or at least put said forms on their web site for depositors to download
Alistair Darling said that nobody would loose out in the demise of Icesave. One assumes he mentioned this to the FSCS who seem to have no comprehension of the distress caused by this failure.
My wife and I have significant (to us) amounts of money in Icesafe and it is a very worrying time not helped by lack of information or any sign of caring by the FSCS
Yours sincerely,

This is my letter to local MP for what its worth.
Dear ****
I write with regard to the Icesave debacle and what I see as sheer incompetence on behalf of the FSCS in dealing with the situation. I am getting increasingly perplexed at not knowing when I might get my lifesavings back with the FSCS giving no indication of a timetable for reinbursement, let alone when compensation forms will be sent out.
Last weekend (11th and 12th October)it was reported that agreements were being reached between the FSA and the Icelandic authorities with regards to an accelerated payout for Icesave depositors. However, the FSA contingent made a mysterious retreat taking the first plane out of Reykjavik on the Sunday.
We were told that today, Friday 17th October, we would be provided with news from the FSCS/FSA and yet they remain silent.
I have been patient over the last two weeks but am getting increasingly frustrated at the prospect of waiting 6 months+ for my money.
Yours sincerely0 -
I have just spoken to someone on the FSCS helpline at 5.20 pm Friday 17th.
- I asked why their website hasn't been updated as promised. They said they don't know why.
- I asked what is the latest position. They said that application forms will be sent out later once they have all the relevant account details from Icesave. They are still in the process of collecting this data, and said they definitely haven't yet started sending out any forms and they don't know when they will be sent out.
- I asked why they need to send out application forms. They said that the purpose is to corroborate the amounts of money being claimed, and that the returned forms will actually constitute the claim against FSCS.
- I asked whether the FSCS are financially able to make repayments independently of further progress in discussions between HMG and the Icelanders. They said they are able to make the repayments as they will borrow all the money as required from the Treasury, and don't need Icelandic money.
- In view of this, I asked why their website contains information about the progress of discussions between HMG and the Icelandic Government, when this would seem to be totally irrelevant to the settlement of retail deposits. They took the point but did not comment. I guess on reflection that this information is only relevant to non retail customers of Icesave.

An update has appeared on the FSCS website - but nothing about Icesave!!0

I need my ISA out of Icesave as quickly as possible as I need the interest to live off at the moment. I've got 10 years of full contributions plus interest in it, and I just want it all back so I can begin to live again.
3 months of no interest is £600 which I've lost, and I can't do without that at the moment.
I'm going to spam Darling's email box and see if I get a reply. I've got a bad feeling the FSCS are going to be nothing more than a wet rag in all of this. I started to worry when it was made clear in newspaper reports a few days ago that no compensation was going to be forthcoming to UK depositors until the Communist Clunking Fist and Darling had first secured it from the Icelandic government.0 -

Whats wrong with them..... What about Icesavers...why we have left f***ing alone!!! :mad:0 -
tattybear why don`t you e mail your mp like others have. MP`s have more clout than we have. No point in getting angry as it just makes us ill and no-one else cares about us getting ill. Go with the flow and e mail your mp and your am etc I have already had my first response. The MPs cannot afford to lose 300,000 votes. Contact e mail link is on the 11 days thread
ps we also need our icesave savings to live on as we are retired and have only my very small pension for 4 more years0
