i signed up to transfer my ISA over to abbey (6%) just before everything went belly up. had a letter from abbey saying obviously with icesave going under they could no longer transfer my money but they would keep the ISA open unless i said other wise. I decided to shut the account down as i dont know when i will get my icesave money back and the rate may be different by the time i do ontop of using up all my years allowances so the account will just be sat there with nothing in till god knows when.
  • I've been a fan for a good while, but want to put on record my disappointment that there's not been a word about Icesave for days. Come on Mr Lewis, you can do better . . .
  • Maybe he doesn't know any more than has already been said... would you like him to keep repeating himself like a parrot?

To the government he is just a bloke that runs a website. they aren't going to keep him updated every minute of the day. If anyone on here has something concrete and worth posting they will do.

Thank you babylonfree for the most sensible thing I've seen posted in this thread in some time.

Martin Lewis does not crack the whip at the Treasury, Whitehall or Reykjavik. When there's news, we'll hear about it. Until then, we have to wait. Such is life.

Fully agree what is the point of posting on here if you have nothing new to add (like many are doing) it just causes confusion and in some cases bad tempers, wait and see it will not be long now.

in my opinion we are no further on than 1 week ago fscs statment "proposals for accelerated payment process being considered " = considered so nothing firm .
this is why need Martin to come out and speak on behalf of us icesavers he is a guy with the media knowledge etc to get some action and indeed response and proper updates -what we get from the fscs is waffle -come on Martin let us hear from you.

Often the writeups are elsewhere first. ;)

If you need an daily, hourly or minute by minute update of the latest rumours, you could try several sources. I believe that the media are a good source.

If you can wait a little longer, the FSCS website also posts updates when they (rather amusingly the authority that is dealing with returning money to savers including figures well over the original compensation limit) know something.
  • I am increasingly worried it will take years to sort out this mess and I do not think we will see our savings before Christmas.

When I read the message of the fscs website i was quite hopeful but having had time to mull it over I thing it does not add anything to all the previous messages.

I keep hearing conflicting reports with regards to refunding lost interest since default. Does anyone know the actual answer as to whether interest will be refunded in full. After all Darling did say that no one would lose money as a result of this. Surely, with Labour behind in the polls, unemployment and inflation on the rise and so many people depending on the interest to live on, this government cannot afford to lose any futher votes by letting 300,000 people lose income. Effectively we are losing money if interest is not paid, to the point of 5% a year.

Why can't the treasury just come out and say that, however long this mess drags on, that we can rest assured that our income is protected. It my opinion it is the least they can do.
