I agree, he'll give us info when something positive is available. Give Martin a break! I've only just come back to the Icesave thread as for the last 2 weeks I've been glued to the thread about Kaupthing Edge and the lost CHAPS/BACS payments. My money has finally appeared in my linked account today. The vast majority on that thread have been positive of Martin's help and very supportive of each other in a very worrying 2 weeks. There are still a small number of transactions incomplete and ING have promised all will be transfered by end of this week. We have Martin and his team to thank for all their communications with ING and KE. He could exert more influence on this issue than with the ICESAVE issue which is in the hands of the Government/FSA and Financial Compensation Scheme.
Be patient (we the KE customers have been).

Well let's hope for your sakes that ING isn't going t*ts up in the same way as Icesave did-
If it does you'll be able to test your patience via the Dutch passport scheme!;)

You'll have access to your money this week-whereas we don't know when we are likely to get ours back or even information as to what's happening-
Maybe that's why most people posting on here are frustrated and angry!

Now I wonder if you have any savings locked up in Icesave?
Can you not have just a little understanding of why people are angry? it is not as you say something that has gone wrong as though it's only a minor thing, some people have their life savings locked up in Icesave, money that they have worked hard for over many years, it's only natural that they are concerned and desperate for some help and advice.

Accusing people who are worried, of behaving like spoilt children is not really helping them at all IMHO, you might have a little more consideration if you found yourself in the same situation. :)

I AM in the same situation - I have a lot of money frozen in Icesave and still agree 100% with SGE1 - a few people here need to grow up.
If you're adult enough to have a bank account you're adult enough not to have to have Martin hold your hand constantly while you wait for the FSC to get it's act together-

Twice now you have missed the point-it's not hand holding we want from the owner of this site but some vocal support and media presence at a time when the Icesave story is going cold!

Missing the point? Hmm the award for most ironic post goes to....

You really don't get it do you? - what a waste of time giving you any information - next time try actually reading rather than ranting.

For those of you who haven't seen it, a post from Martin on a different thread which may help to explain comments raised above:

In that sense, I put out a press release on the first day of Icesave lobbying for it to step in and end the uncertainty. It did and i very deliberately included a note commending this in my news of the world column (which is good for political issues) after all if they deliver I believe its important to acknowledge

At the moment we are calling the treasury and FSCS most days for updates and its tough to get anything back. We have also been working as you may see on Kaupthing Chaps payments, which is being successful.

We will not stop until we have all the info and can push it through. Yet as with Kaupthing - you have to time when you push. By ranting every day you negate any power or imput. If things aren't sorted and we don't have clarity soon you can rest assured I will be pushing as hard as I can to say "the govt promised X but hasn't delibered" - yet it is too early to do that.

And frankly at the moment, Icesave is forgotten for most mainstream journalists. We need a reason to get it on the front pages/headlines. Perhaps 7 Novermber will be the key day - 1 month on.

  • regards apportioning blame, even Which magazine had Icesave as a best buy in its September edition - shall we blame them too ? Course not, truth is this is unprecedented, no-one expected the Icelandic government to default. All good systems need a pressure valve, this was it for the world's banking system and memory of it will create some healthy cautiousness in years to come as people won't be able to say 'of course a government won't go bankrupt'.

Often the writeups are elsewhere first.

Just in case you didn't click on BLF's link above, this was the headline - and the link again.

This is Money link - No guarantee of IceSave cash before Christmas
  • This is part of an article in today's Times......

"“The central bank will prioritise payments for essential imports, but it will delay payments to British savers. They will be in the queue somewhere along with British companies who bank with Iceland’s nationalised banks,” Jan Randolph, head of sovereign risk at Global Insight, said.

AD said all Icesavers would be paid by the treasury -and "accelerated payments" -seems to be that the goverment is trying to get the money first from iceland -hence we have no real firm information as to when we will receive our money --it will be "dragged out" for months at this rate.
Again I repeat we need the help and support of Martin to get the facts etc
  • My feeling now is that unless the UK government is going to reimburse all Icesave customers in full now from it's own resources and seek to claim monies back by whatever means from the Icelandic government then we are in for an awfully long wait - our PM guaranteed that everyone would get their money back but he cleverly made no mention of a time-frame. I understand that the rules state that monies should be repaid within 3 months unless exceptional circumstances prevail - given the fact that Iceland is pretty much bankrupt then it will not be very difficult for them to justify any lengthy delays. Hopefully I am wrong about this!!
