To cut a long story short, I've had to use re-install Windows ME
I had a LINKSYS WRT54G router attached to above PC via ethernet cable, but, as my PC doesn't have an ethernet port, had to purchase a USB connector.
Following the re-installation, my laptop can still access the internet using my broadband connection, but my PC won't accept the USB adaptor as for some reason, the software disc won't reload
I have reconnected my PC directly to my Broadband cable modem & have internet access, but of course, the router is now not connected
My original idea was to move the older PC anyway, and set up wireless using USB dongle.
My question is, will it be easy for me to set up the dongle? Will it find the router without me having to completely re-install all the router settings again on my PC
Any help would be appreciated (Again!)0 -
do you know your encryption key..
it might be better to do this in your original thread, rather than the sticky.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
I have just purchased a Belkin wireless router to connect laptopn amd pc to wireless.
On reading the instructions it says turn off any internet sharing or firewall software before beginning set up. In the manual it says the router is equped with a firewall. Will this mean that I dont turn on XP firewall, and will I still be able to run zonealarm? All will they conflict?Nice to save.0 -

The hardware firewall in the router will provide incoming protection but you should still use your software firewall ZA once you have been though the router set-up to give outward protection. The ideal set-up is to run both a hardware and a software firewall i.e. one of each.

I want to network desktop computer (no wireless card) with windows 98 to laptop with winxp and wireless to share BT broadband connection. Have been reading stuff for a day now but am completely baffled. Got Belkin wireless G usb network adaptor and wireless router for desktop but these aren't compatible with win98 only win98se. Can someone point me in the direction of what to buy please. The furthest away to use laptop would probably be 70'.0
