I have a Packard Bell desktop that is around 5 years old. Due to refurbishment of my home I am having to move my PC so thought I would go wireless as I hope to by a laptop shortly and would need it anyway.
I currently use Karoo for my ISP and they recommend the following:
Netgear DG834G 54Mbps Wireless ADSL Modem Firewall Router with 4-port 10/100 switch
and
Netgear WG111 Wireless 54Mbps USB 2.0 Adapter
Can anyone tell me if these are any good or any other recommendations would be grateful. I don't want to spend more than £100 if necessary...0 -

I highly recommend netgear and that partiular model of router, but dont buy it from amazon, look in cheaper places like ebuyer.co.uk or savastore0 -
What I should have maybe said in my original post is that I am moving my computer to an upstairs room were there isn't a telephone connection. Rather than run an unsightly cable upstairs I want to be able to work the Internet without the cable. I presumed the only way to do is by a wireless router. My PC is a dinosaur and wasn't too sure if it was capable. I have around between £60-£100 to spend on something that would achieve this. Any advice would be appreciated...0

If you have an adsl modem, and it disconnects after being idle, try this:
IE, Tools, Internet options, connection, select your isp, settings, advanced., uncheck Disconnect if Idle for 20 minutes.
Click OK .Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -

I would do but my router is a netgear DG834G (V2) and some unthoughtful person has had the nerve to already do a guide for that  "She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Hi, sorry if this has been asked somewhere else and I've missed it
My laptop has a great piece of software that has a pictorial guide to what wireless networks are in range at any one time. I've done a search for the software and come back to the Toshiba download page (not surprising since the laptop is Toshiba)
I am trying to find the same sort of software for my desktop (yes i know it sounds odd).
I have two networks running in my house at the moment, both of which i can connect to with the laptop but i just can't set the second one( music server ) to connect to the PC .
At least with the Laptop i could physically see that the network was connectible to
Any advise gratefully received0 -

Can someone please help me....i am abit dumb on these things
I have 2 pcs in the house (1 downstairs, 1 up) the downstairs is connected to ntl broadband via usb cable modem. I want the internet upstairs and the people at ntl said to get a wireless router.
Is this what i need? http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/615584/Belkin_802_11g_Wireless_Cable_DSL_Internet_Gateway_Router/Product.html
Do i need anything else to go with it?
Thanks. Carrie.Accept that some days you're the pigeon and some days you're the statue.0
