That'll be why then, the netgear router should intercept it, and go to the config page.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

Yes I thought that would be the case but wondered when lainey stardust said that it took them to the support site that they had already contacted. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
ok, I disconnected the power but the router just started up and connected on to the net straightaway without going to the router login page. I've just done the run, cmd, ipconfig stuff and got an IE gateway of 192.168.0.5. I tried putting that into my search bar but then get a message saying this address doen't exist.( I am on firefox, does that make a difference?).
i think I'll ring Netgear tomorrow and complain that they haven't reeplied to my support request and see if they can fugure this out for me.
Can I just say a HUGE THANKS to Albertross and Espresso for taking the time to try and help me, much appreciated. I'll let you know how I get on. xxxxxxdoing what I do best...trying!!-- lainey :j

hi all, quick update on the router situation.... i was given the wrong phone number so I emailed them again and they have given me a Uk number to ring. My only gripe is the length of time they take to reply. I'm going to ring the UK number today.. will keep you posted....doing what I do best...trying!!-- lainey :j

Hi - I bought a wireless ADSL Router Kit - make D-Link - and got a friend to install it. This was ages ago. My son has just bought himself a laptop and when he signed on he was told that my wireless connection was not secure and shouldn't be trusted. I'm not terribly knowledgable when it comes to computers or the terms used but I thought I would look at the connection and see if I could make it secure but I can't find it! Can anyone tell me where to look for it please.
Thank you
Regards

Depending on age and spec of the older desktop you probably only need a wireless dongle that costs around £10 and a network card for approx £7. I recently connected a 10 year old 'Tiny' computer running Windows 98 without a problem.WHOOOOSHHHHHHHHH……..
Blimey what was that ?
That was your life mate
Oh I wasn’t quite ready can I have another go ?
Sorry mate only one per person.0
