Hi, I hope I'm in the right place for some help.
The broadband connection for my desktop is via a BT Voyager 210 ASDL Modem. I have bought a wireless laptop and a BT Voyager 2110 Wireless ADSL Router. Can I plug this Router into another phone socket and use it for my laptop or do I have to uninstall the Voyager 210 and use the 2110 Router for my desktop as well as the laptop?0 -
ditch the modem, and use the router for both, make sure you encrypt it with wpa-psk/tkip
In IE, tools, internet options, connections, set it to never dial, and in advanced, untick everything.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Thanks Albertross for your speedy reply. I have never connected anything before without assistance (I should say someone else has always done it for me!) My connection to the desktop at the moment is via a blue cable do I connect the yellow cable into the same socket? Sorry if this is a dumb question.0

To get maximum attention it's best to start a new thread rather than posting in this sticky.
Bascially the printer needs to be shared (in its properties) and the PC switched on whenever you wish to print, you will need to add it as a new network printer on the laptop and have the software ready in case it's required for the initial installlation.0 -

Any network cable should do, as long it's of the "straight" type, the colour is irrelevant.0 -

Anyone know how to set up a home network with a Vista Computer and an xp computer?0

Just the same as any other, the only problem with VISTA is you may have to do it with administrator rights.
It may aslo help to turn off UAC while setting it up.0 -
Hi guys,
We have been using a netgear dg834g v3 ( second one as had to return the first) for 4 months now. It's connected to our main PC via ethernet cable and thats largely ok although we do lose connection now and again and was connecting wirelessly to a laptop whilst DD's pc at the docs, The intention is to connect her wirelessly when it comes back and maybe get a long ethernet cable for the laptop if I need to use it whilst OH is on main PC BUT about a month ago the wireless function just stopped working. The wireless indicator light doesn't come on at all so I'm guessing it might be a problem with the actual router. I contacted the technical support team at Netgear but other than an acknowledgement email a fortnight ago, they haven't replied. Their site is very slow isn't it?
Do any of you techie guys have any advice? Is this a common problem with the Netgear? Which other wireless router would anyone recommend for our set up?doing what I do best...trying!!-- lainey :j
