    Morning all,
after the sucess of my effortless ! private sale yesterday, I have listed my 10 remaining magazines. Am saving money by not buying too many at the moment.:rotfl:

I, too, have an item not received on ebay. It was the ONLY sale in a days nightmare listing that seemed to go according to plan - Oh well!
This item went first class with proof of postage and only 25 miles away and was a lovely item.
I will recommend that she files an item not received claim with paypal to get her money back from my account, and will then fill in the Royal Mail claim form which I printed off this morning. It has upset me, and didnt list on ebay yesterday.
Hey ho - today is a new day and all that.
The cave of clutter (dining room) is calling.
Hope that you are all having a good day, cheers, LHB

Why are you suggesting she does a paypal chargeback against youy? It will merely mark your account that you have lost a chargeback and may affect any future claims in future if paypal consider that you don't refund willingly. Refund her with good grace (through gritted teeth if necessary) and the buyer will almost certainly leave you a positive saying how decent a seller you are. Insisting she disputes this through paypal will probably tee the buyer off and end up with you getting a negative..and a well worded negative about refusing a refund will kill your future sales.

As a buyer think how it looks to be told that in order to get a refund they have to open a dispute against you, wait 10 days (or more if you respond) just to get their refund..would you leave a positive after all that?

Also, RM randonly contact buyers where items are claimed as lost in th epost, how willing do you think your buyer will be to help you if she is contacted if you've made her fight you for her money? A RM claim is never guaranteed, so don't risk upsetting your buyer.

Before you list a particular item I would suggest that you look and see it something identical is already being posted on Ebay and if it's got any bids. It might save you a few listing fees.
  • Hi Soolin,
Thankyou for your advice - I wasnt trying to be diffficult about giving my buyer a refund - I just didnt know any better, and thought that was how you did it! oops.
I have just given her a full refund through paypal. Although I feel upset that she hasnt received my item and I will have to claim from RM, I would feel much more annoyed if I had bought and the item didnt arrive and seller reused to reimburse.
(It did happen - my first ebay bid - seller with lots of +ve feedback went bad and didnt send to me and tens of others and then was deregistered).

    Thanks again, best wishes, LHB
  • It is a pain when someone e-mails to say their item has not been received.

I refunded my buyer the money and have to send off the claim form, I am going to print off all the e-mails from her saying the item did not arrive, that she checked with her local sorting office etc, as that backs me up. One of the other items that went missing someone bought for a party (party bags) so I had to resend the items again as they were wanted urgently, I have to claim for that too, it's such a pain. Anything over £5/6 I'm sending Recorded Delivery so that I can check where items are for my own peace of mind more than anything else, just in case some people are trying it on.

I haven't listed anything yet today, will do my 3 and hopefully a few more later when kids are in bed. Got a few parcels to wrap up and post.

Does anyone use Paypal postage? Are items less likely to go missing by paying via this way? Someone sent me a parcel that didn't turn up and when I e-mailed to say it hadn't arrived she confirmed back to me that it was indeed missing but it was 1st class standard so not sure how she knew.

I tried to use Paypal postage the other day but the pop up box which was meant to have the label to print didn't pop up so I had to cancel the postage and claim the money back, I still haven't had it back yet so not sure how long it takes.

    Thanks Floxxie

I thought I would do 2nd Rec so that I could check if someone said the item didn't arrive, I hate not knowing if they are being honest or not, I'm putting the postage as seller's standard rate and will be sending Recorded so they won't know it is coming recorded and see if anyone is trying it on. I think people are more likely to try it on now as money is tight for everyone, it is for me and I can't afford to lose money.

Just think, someone could do their whole Xmas shopping that way, buy toys for the kids, get goods, say it didn't arrive if posted by 1st or 2nd class, get refund and get goods. I'm sure some people will try it on, I couldn't do that though, say I'd not received something when I had.

Got to sort out my 3+ for listing today so back down the Annex later to see what other goodies I can find.

Hi tmd, please please don't do it! You'll find that you get marked down for postage and then your listings will not be in the standard search. Unfortunately eBay have made it so buyers expect postage to be free (and they'll still knock you down). Just send by standard. RM investigate people who claim several parcels have gone missing or POs where parcels constantly go missing.

I understand that it is not nice having something apparently go missing but all you can do is try and keep the buyer sweet for a while e.g. it's getting busier at this time of the year, wait until x day, then refund and then put in a claim.

Paypal postage - if you have a read on the eBay thread some people were getting told off by their PO for using it! Haven't used it myself - can hardly get the PC to work without adding extra instructions to the printer!!

Just wanted to add that I have had several recorded delivery packages not signed for and several that have been signed for by somebody else and the buyer then claimed they had not received them.

Definitely advise people to pop over to the eBay boards if you are having any kind of problem. Hopefully they are rare given the number of listings we are doing. Fingers crossed anyway.

Sorry to butt in but is that really the case... if you offer recorded delivery your listings aren't shown in the search?! I've never heard that before

No sorry if I confused you. Buyers are asked to add a rating and if they feel that your postage is too expensive (remember the RD is for you, not them) then they mark you down accordingly. If you fall below a certain rate (and believe you me it is very easy to do), then your listings are no longer found by a basic search. I have done free postage and still got marked down.

My advice is that there is no added benefit to RD - it does not even protect you. Use standard. Most buyers are still honest. Those that aren't will be found out...
