    Hi Guys

Can you tell me if in your opinion it's best to go in at .99p? I know beggars can't be choosers, but I'm afraid some of my more expensive stuff will go for just that!

How about the reserve. Have read various reports saying it puts bidders off. Have got item to sell which is going on average for £65-70. Should I use the buy it now?

I use the 99p listing for the majority of mine, but if I have something that is worth more I start the bidding at the lowest price that I would accept and pay for the listing.

A couple of examples I have just sold a ring that I wanted at least £30 and startedit at that and it sold for £30 and a couple of weeks ago my son sold his psp and games that he no longer uses and we wouldnt let it go for less than £50 so started it at that and it sold for £75. If its something that people want I find that the items tend to reach a good price.

    Hope this helps a bit

I tend to start at low prices unless I have an item I won't accept anything less for, I put the minimum price I'll accept up as a starting price - rather than setting a reserve through Ebay.

But I just wanna get rid of stuff ASAP. It all seems to balance out for me, some bits only go for £1 - £2, but them some bits go for £20 +, just starting at 0.99

    Swings and roundabouts

    Hi hettiecarro,

I'm the same as jaynemarie. Unless I have a definite price in mind, I start low. I do think that the reserve feature puts people off (it puts me off!) I had a few items a couple of weeks ago that I wanted £20 for, I started at that and got between £45 and £87 (!) for them.

People know the cost of most things and will understand realistic starting prices.

Apologies, one of my regulars suggested I ought to offer some constructive advice to sdt1986 as they are a new ebay user and might not be familiar with all the ins and outs.

Firstly, reweigh your items and packing and change your postage costs. Kerrang is not a popular selling magazine and goes unsold more often than not so you need to be quite ruthless to get a sale on an ordinary copy, assuming it is less than 250g I would suggest offering standard 2nd class post as 99p (it will actually cost you 76p so your wrapping costs are covered). If you really want to use recorded then charge £1.75 2nd class recorded as that doesn't hit the £2 barrier and pschologically looks very reasonable. You need to be looking to sell books and media items ASAP while the listings are free, from October you won't be able to add any postage at all so it is best to sell now.

The same with the single really most people charge less than £2 postage so you don't want to stand out as people will feel ripped off. Reweigh it, recalculate and change the auction.

With the ticket you have to get that less than £1 if you can to stand a chance, at the moment £5 in total for a second hand ticket with no actual photo is going to get ignored.

The manual will probaby sell although all the ones sold so far have bene in the book category and I wonder if selling it in the manuals category might mean it is overlooked and goes for less. That one I am not sure about as I would normally go for the category in which it sells myself.

With a very high p and p cost your items are going to be almost invisible and you need to address that. Personally I would be looking to get some quick sales now especially in the media categories whilst you can add postage, just to get some feedback. Once you have some feedback you can start to sell more actively and achieve better prices.

Ebay isn't always easy you need to give yourself every advantage that you can to achieve good sales. There are some regulars on here that have achieved a great deal and they are to be congratulated and I hope that one day you get to be like them.

I figured my pricing on postage would be out, definitely something i struggle with, its fear of something selling low and it ending up costing me mroe to post.

I wouldnt say the ticket has no value either, due to the fact that that another one is going with the program for £50.

thanks for the help, ive made some changes to the book listing and the ticket postage pricing, will have another look at the others after work tonight.

Never thought about selling second hand clothes, do they really sell unless named brands?

I have a lot of old phones some work some dont, whats the best thing to do with these, those recycling sites or ebay?

    Thanks for all the advice.

    e.

I can't see the other one at all, what is the listing title? If you can work out why that one is selling and yours is not you can maybe add somehting to your description or title to attract more potential bidders.

Think this is because its still in a sealed bag with the program, i found it using google when i was looking for a picture of the ticket, think it had sold for that price as it was an old item.

Really stupid, but I'm a complete newbie to selling on eBay. Is it ok to ask a few questions? Like:
-What sort of postage should I put on (mainly clothes)
-Should I start all of mine at 99p, considering the majority is clothes?
-How much are listing costs and what the hell do they mean?
