i also start most things off at 99p to avoid the fees! very occasionally i risk it for a higher price but generally find myself unluck and not selling. I ma mostly selling old clothes and shoes etc and just need the space so not too fussed, 99p is more than if i chucked it!
I do have some still new with tags stuff so may try some of those at £4.99 and see what happens.
Thanks also for the advice re turbolister, have downloaded it and have 13 items ready and waiting already its ace!:TSAHM getting organised 2010.

its about postage. im sure im not getting it right. i sort of estimate the postage based on other items i see similar and use their postage cost. what is the best way to approach this do you think? and the printing off the postage - is that the easiest way to do it? im trying to analysis my costs and sort of lost track :-(
thanks

I mainly sell clothes and start all my items at a standard £2.50 p&p charge and my dsr stars are 4.9 with a 4.8 for p&p if it's quite heavy i'll either add another quid to postage or pop it into a carrier stick it on the digital scales and then add 50g (just to allow for any small difference in scales with po, plus i still need to add bag/bubble wrap/label) and check the price on royal mails price finder - also invaluable for posting abroad
As a general rule i find for postage abroad then in europe it's an extra 50p - £1.00 and anywhere else it's probably an additional £2
I only stick the things i am not bothered about at 99p as i once had a few next items with tags which i was sure would fly so started at 99p and they sold for that and i was gutted! I would now rather start at 4.99 knowing that i just have to get one bidder, than attract a few and hope they will bid the price up against each other
Digital scales and royal mail price finder is a must for most ebayer's i'd say
However saying that mrscmr you seem to be abit more adventerous with your listing than me and i'm not sure my scales would appricate me checking the weight of my lawnmower!!!

Hi everyone
Just come online hoping someone might be able to advise...although I have sold a few ebay items in the past I have always accepted payment by paypal and said cash on collection for large items (although its never actually happened.) My preferences are set to show that i accept paypal & cash on collection. Had 2 different buyers contacted me today about some perfume I am selling, 1 to ask if I would accept a cheque and the other to ask if I would accept cash if it was sent recorded delivery?
Has anyone had experience of this before? I know that Paypal has fees etc but if someone is already hooked up to the internet they can pay with their credit or debit card on paypal cutting out the need for a cheque etc. In terms of the cash I worry about it getting "lost" or getting dodgy notes or something through the post. My instinct is to steer clear but just wanted to know what others thought and if i am being over cautious?
Cheers

i wouldn't accept cash by post but i have accepted cheques, i just say i'll send the item when the cheque clears.0

Hi lisa
i have accepted cash on collection but only smallish amounts. and i have accepted cheques twice from the same person. not a great fan of receiving big amounts of money. also i am learning that the seller is in control - not the buyer. i think it seems you have to clearly layout your terms of sale in the description.Highest Debt £581,000 Nov 08 and now owe nothing! yes really! I only use a little set of letter scales - they only go up to 1kg. If its heavier than that its a little easier as it would be standard parcels so the weight ranges are broader
I've sold about 1500 things since I started ebaying 5 years ago so you can get by with some cheap scales as long as you are not listing lawn mowersNot been here in years! Hi everyone. Make £10 a day challenge = £78.45/1550 -
I feel like I am losing the will to list..... I have been sorting all weekend & now I have soooo much stuff & no room left to store it... oh please give me some inspiration......

however on my way home from work i called into the mall, and spent £48.10 in tk maxx alone!!! just couldn't resist! - bought stuf i knew prob wouldn't find but thought sure i can stick it on ebay! - completely defeats the whole purpose of my ebaying lol!!!
on a good note i got a really nice lipsy dress for £15 so not all bad!! :rotfl:
oh go i have just read over what i have written and i cant believe how much i am trying to justify my unnecessary spending! as off monday i am leaving my bank card at home!!!:eek:0
